If it would work, it'd be worth a try :-P In fact, yes, it would work - the money I get back from CCP would allow me to take some more time off work which means I'll be more able to spend time in the EVE-world and I'll see these downtimes coming which means I won't get this problem! Hurrah!
Yes, you and the 50.000 other people who would follow in your footsteps (precedence). That would decrease income to CCP, meaning they would have to fire a dev or 2. So some more fixes would go wrong and this time it would take 3 hours to fix instead of 2.. And there you go sueing them again until they have to sell CCP to EA or close it all togeather. Yes, a very good way to fix things.

Originally by: Jonny MoJo Op is corret. CCP never told us much about DT.
Solution is simple - add in a skill queue which can hold a maximum of 1 skill, so it cannot be abused. Problem solved.
Ah good, the cavalry. I thought I was the only one fighting this fight for a while there. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

My God, you're right. I bet nobody else in CCP or on the forums has thought of that.
The only way to avoid patch day woes is to scan the news regularly. CCP often think nothing of giving around 5 or 6 day's notice of a patch. Then plan accordingly. Even minor patches sometimes cause snafus that take several days to clear. When they say train a long skill, they don't mean something that takes a day. They mean Racial Battleship V.
Yes, it's not very professional. But that's CCP for you. If you don't like it, you're going to have to find another game. Because they've been like this for years and show no sign of changing.

ROFL. Your post agrees with me that the situation is pants, but also informs me that I should open my eyes a bit, which is true.
Can't they use the test server to TEST things before adding them to the real server?

Get a grip - it's just a game for heavens sake.
If it's causing you such a problem maybe a trip to see a head doctor may be in order?

The MOTD in eve is right infront of you every login. As is the news articles to the side of your character select screen. The article explaining about todays patch has been there since around 4pm yesterday and the MOTD has been there since around midnight. You have had ample warning considering it was an emergency patch.
Same with the patch before, it was known for a good 4 or 5 days before the downtime that they were patching EVE and the DT would be longer because of it. If people are too bone idle to read the information shoved infront of their faces then they deserve the inconvenience missing a few hours of skilltraining can cause them. Edited by: NightmareX on 20/02/2008 12:33:51 The TX. Go back to WoW and cry to all of the crybabies there. They will probably hold your hand to there.
How long time have you played EVE?
We don't like WoW crybabies here on the forum.

Absolutely correct, I logged on for five minutes yesterday and thought "Oh! Another extended DT, let's put a skill on that will finish at 6pm". That being said, they really should have thoroughly tested this patch before implementing it. It would have saved so much time and effort.

It is either fixing the bug this extended DT or a lot of Incompatible Protocol players won't be able to connect.
For people who haven't been able to connect, they have lost a day of training if they had set one to end just after DT.
However...the idea of an "emergency skill" to be set to train to the next level should you go more than (X) amount of hours without setting one is something that should be considered.
