"Gate aligned spots: These are spots that are directly in line with the exit point of a gate that you have just entered, and is "off the gate grid" "
I'm asking because:
1. We're invulnerable when we gate in. This gives time to align if you have an agile ship.
2. It is pointless to bother if the other side turns out to be bubbled anyway...
If they're still useful, I heard ppl say that you should make them about 400km away. Is it sufficient?
(It is also pointless if there are pirates waiting some 400km away from the gate on the gate aligned bm! )
Thank you for your comments.

You're not invulnerable, you're cloaked. You stop being cloaked and can be targeted as soon as you start aligning. At no point during the aligning are you 'invulnerable' as you say.

It's also pointless if there a doomsday device being fired on the gate right after you've jumped in. That doesn't mean you shouldn't take certain precautions for when it doesn't happen...

Sure. Make it 500 if you think 400 is too little. Or drop a can at the gate and check when you stop seeing it on your overview.

If they're 400 km away they're not on the gate so you'll be fine. If they're both on the gate and 400 km away, warp to 100km from your bookmark...

Off-the-grid spots are good, AFAIK, for scanning to see if your gate is camped / bubbled. Instead of warping to 0 to the gate, you warp to some spot a few thousand K away from it, scan to see if there's a bubble waiting for you, then if not you warp to 0 and jump through.
Cov-ops scouts FTW, though.

Yes, you are only temporarily invisible. lol got carried away a bit there..
So a relatively safe way of traveling would be:
1. use the jump gate. 2. as soon as you come out on the other side warp to your gate aligned spot. 3. for the far gate on the system jump on its gate aligned spot. 4. scan your destination gate for a bubble. 5. if no bubble "warp to 0" on it and jump. 6. goto 1 for next system.

Funny thing is, all they have to do is put a bubble up after you warp back to the gate to rewarp to the camped gate. You have a couple of options if you are that paranoid about hitting a camp.
1. Use a scout
2. Fly through in a shuttle while leaving your main ship at the nearest station. If it's not camped then proceed to jump through with the shuttle to check the other side. If all is clear then go back and get your main ship and fly to the next station...rinse and repeat
3. Equip a MWD on your ship and hope for the best.
4. Use a cloak. This has saved my arse once while in an iterion v. Some MC pilots came within 200m of decloaking me and I was practically shaking while I slowboated it back to the gate while cloaked with vaga's swooping in every direction like vultures ------------------------------------

What's the point of step 2? If you are able to get your ship up to speed and warp, you might as well warp directly to the next gate's observation spot, going straight from step 1 to 3. AFAIK, when you're stationary you aren't aligned to anything, since acceleration is the limiting factor and it takes zero time to turn when you're at zero speed. If I'm wrong then correct me, but my understanding is that when you warp 'cold' from the jump-cloak, it will take you exactly the same time to get up to 75% and into warp, no matter which object you warp to and where it is relative to your ship's orientation.
(Of course, this doesn't apply to station insta-undocks because you already have some forward momentum.)

Yeah, after jumping you have no "direction" and instantly align, you're only limited by acceleration. As the ship on the client DOES have a direction and appears to align, you can end up entering warp sideways if your ship accelerates faster than it turns.
Off-grid gate bookmarks are only useful for warping TO a gate to scan it without being seen.

Nothing could yet convince me of this, your ship has a direction, maybe the thing is that you have no inertia at 0 speed (no ratating inertia?)...
Anyone took a freighter (because it's the slowest) and a chronometer to check this?
Because it seems to me that the speed stays low for a longer time when the ship is turning... and it doesn't end perfectly aligned so it takes more time to warp... -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

You ship will never instantly align for a warp. If you aren't facing the direction then your ship turns to where it needs to go. Yes you will still be accelerating up to the 75% max speed to warp while you are turning but your ship still has to turn. If you have flown a big ship and tried to warp to a gate that you aren't aligned to then you will see what happens. ------------------------------------
