I think it would be great if CCP produced an "Offical" mission book as a download. Nothing scraggy, but a good quality production. Have all the missions listed according to Race/faction e.g. Caldari, Amarr etc... and then break down each faction by level. Each mission can have a nice bit of art work heading it and have information on tanking damage dealing etc... sort of like EVE Info has. You could have all the NPC ships involved in the mission listed with thumbnail pictures that enlarge with nice portrate pictures giving information such as - Bounty, DPS, scram, web, main weapon type etc... when highlighted. Information on spawns, gates, ship restrictions etc...
And to make it worth while for CCP to produce and update they could charge say $14.95us for the initial download and a further $4.95 for either a quarterly or half yearly update. I think thats reasonable - player's get reliable mission info and CCP make some $$$
If you support something like this make your mark.

Terrible idea! It assumes missions are (or should be) static!
EVE missions aren't static, but change quite often.
As a matter of fact, missions SHOULDN'T be static either! It would be much better if each mission was unique! Hard to implement for CCP, but would be much better game design!

Free is nice, but it is player collected information, though good is not 100% accurate and not all missions are listed either. If new missions are added or old one's are removed or modified that information takes time to filter through. In essence what one would be purchasing is "reliable" and "upto date" information. This sort of thing is not going to kill the free information, that will always be there.
But one would not just be purchasing reliable and upto date mission information, it would contain art work, maybe some chronicles and of course being a CCP product - ingame functionality.

Seriously though, missions are already trivially easy as it is. I honestly doubt that CCP would make the money back from the time it would take to make something like this.
If you want a bunch of EVE artwork, go buy that Art of EVE book they released.
If you just want mission information, it's already out there in free format.

And you can garrenty that every single mission is listed (including Cosmos and Plex missions) and that all listings are 100% accurate? And are readily accessable in one location?

Not at all. And that's the point.
You want absolutely predictable income? Mine Veld in 0.8 or above.

Not at all, only reliable mission information, unlike some of the free sites that tell you how to complete the mission.

The point is that no listed information can be 100% accurate.
The vast majority of missions have randomly alternated spawn sets, maybe you'll have 3 corelatis squad leaders, maybe you'll have 2 corelatis platoon leaders and a corelum guardian chief infantry. There's no way to know until you warp in.
But you don't need 100% accurate perfect spoiler information to do missions, and do them fast and well, each mission, despite individual variances, typically has the same DPS spread every time (Except angels, who are often annoying and decide to use obnoxious secondary damage types, but are still easily tanked.)
Then again, I guess the kind of people who would buy the paper World of Warcraft guide books need something to blow money on in EVE besides GTCs.

You don't have to go to that level of detail. Mission discription, faction involved, ships involved with individual ship information. I'm not asking for spawn rates, order of agro, how many steps in the mission, number's of each particular ship type. That information is still in the hands of the player. So there's no "spoiler" about it, just asking for "RELIABLE" information in an easy to use standardised format. Having to spend time visiting 2, 3, 4 sites to get infomation that at times is not given in a consistant manner and is not accurate, even at odd times completely wrong is a pain in the ass and takes can take a long time. Are you willing to fly a billion ISK BS into a mission completely blind, or tanked wrong? Didn't think so.
Truth is, if CCP did do it and offered it for free, you and everyone else here would be the first to put there hand up. Why should CCP not be paid for their effort?
Two questions, is it a good idea? and, should it be paid for? Thats the essence of the post. If you don't want "spoiler", don't use it, the spoiler arguement is not valid.

You know, you COULD also actually play the game and try an unknown mission in a cheap fit first, or decline it until the info appears on sites. As for COSMOS, the main reason I did them was exactly that they were something new and unknown. I only consulted the guides when I was absolutely stuck. I wish there was more content like that, and that it would not suffer so much from camped spawn cans.
I am quite the carebear, I freely admit that, but people like you carry it to extremes even I find disgusting. And I wholeheartedly hope that this is not a good idea, since if it WAS a good idea, that would mean there are a lot more of your type out there.
There is no 'n' in turret There is no 'r' in faction There is no 'a' in Scorpion There is no 'e' in Caldari There is no makeup in rogue drones |
