As per the title, I'm the new owner of a Caracal Navy Issue and am trying to decide how to outfit it. I've been flying Assault Ships for the past month or so, and was looking at getting something a little bigger. Rather then a stock T1 cruiser, I thought this might be a better option to do missions quicker [I'm willing to pay a larger fee just to do missions quicker, they get boring pretty fast for me :<] so that's why I purchased it over a T1 Caracal and I'm currently training towards a Cerebus but still am around 40/50 days off which is why I didn't pick one of those up :)
So far I've decided on 'Arlabest' Heavy Assault Missile Launchers in all the 5 high missile slots, and at least 1 BCU II in the low slots. Other then that I'm completely clueless =P
What I'm after is something which can a) do a fair amount of DPS for its size, b) is not slow, c) can do level II missions with ease, and do them quickly. If it can salvage as well - that's a bonus :)
Skills are irrelevant, as I'm happy to spend a few days training before I can use everything.

You can to L2s in a normal caracal :)
But ok:
Heavy missile launchers
3x large shield extenders, 2 shield rechargers
2x shield power relays, ballistic control system and probably a co-processor.
3x core defense field purger.
You may want to start rejigging for more ballistic controls (Up to about 3) once you get used to it. That'll just about fit with a T2 fit, so you should be ok with T1/named and lower skills.

I know this is slightly off-topic, but how about trying a Drake, possibly with heavy assaults (to use its bonuses)?
2 extra launchers have to be useful; plus it has space for 5 light drones, and if you have a problem with speed fit nanos and/or overdrives, and/or put an AB in one of the midslots. This will compromise its tank, but a Drake is so much overkill for level 2 that it really isn't going to matter. A ship that can manage level 4 shouldn't have much of a problem!

I've thought about training for something else [eg Drake], but I'd really prefer to keep on my current training schedule and be flying HAC's ASAP. I'll check out the setup later tonight and modify it from there I guess. Thanks :)

5xdread guristas assault launchers w/bloodclaws (about 6mil per) 1x tractor beam
Pithi B type small shield booster, shield boost amp, 2x invuln, 1x large cap battery
3xBCS II 1x PDS II
heavy launchers are a no-no for level 2s :/
that said, a PLAIN tech one caracal will do the job just as well....

As fast? I was under the impression the larger PG of the navy would let me fit everything I wanted to and mean I could do what I want to do quicker. Because I'm okay paying extra to do it that little bit faster.

Dont get arby launchers. Way the **** too expensive. Go with Malks or maybe the next step up. Arbys are at best 12mil a launcher which is way more than the ship costs. ----------------------------------- CCP Please update my portrait on the website/forums :D

The Arby Heavy Assaults are a lot cheaper then 12 mil, hence I was looking at getting them =P I didn't really see the point in using heavy missile launchers for level II's as that's all I have the rep for at the moment. I guess I might consider changing for level III's if it turns out I can do them okay, but we'll get to that when I get to that.
Is there a point to me using normal Heavy Missile Launchers in a level II?

if you want to have a bit of fun in the lvl 2's, use an assault ship or an inty (the crow is just awsome :P). It will be slightly slower (maybe... skills depending) that a caracal, but will require slightly more effort on your part, and may actually prove mildly challenging.
That being said... the fastest thing to run a lvl 2 in would probably be a drake w/ 3 bcu's + 1 overdrive in the lows, an afterburner, 1-2 sensorboosters in the mid, and then some large shield extenders in the rest of the mids, and then assault missile launchers in the highs.
