Edited by: Seatoo on 23/02/2008 12:30:03 First off I want to say that this is a not a "recruit me plx post".
I've been playing for around two months after being convinced by roommates (I have experience in other MMOs) I have around 1.4m SP and 100m raw isk + another 100m in assets, I fly a drake fitted for full a mix of tanking/DPS for missions and pvp. I can almost fly a Raven, I mainly want to pvp however I am fully aware that I will either need to mission or have an industrial alt to fund that.
However after sitting in a NPC corp (my roommates rarely play, mostly to change skills) I am getting rather bored. I can get lvl 4 missions from Zainou (around 7 standing atm) but can't come close to doing them on my own. Everytime I see a corp recruiting on these forums I see 5million SP required or something of the like.
Is my only option to wait and grind in Highsec until I have a huge amount of SP and THEN try and find a real corp? Is there a place where I can stay in 0.0 or lowsec, people that will help me learn? Or should I just not renew in a few days when my account expires, and like my roommates do, train and never play?
edit: and its annoy as heck when the moderators delete/moderate my posts because they think I'm an alt RSF vs BoB is far more epic and interesting than anything in wow....ever

You only managed to train an additional 600K skill points in two months?
That's only 10K per day.... even newbies train at around 1100+ SP/hr.
You're doing it wrong

My roommates helped me make this char, is 1.4m is around 2 months bad? I've been training almost non stop except for the first week because I didn't realize it took so freaking long to learn skills >.<

I'm not asking for "things to do"
If you read the post, I am feeling abandoned in EvE, why should I play a MMO when I'm basically by myself most of the time? I can play a single player game if I wanted that.
edit: mfg? alti? wtf is red vs blue?

Yeah, there are a lot of corps that'll take ya.
Mind you, you're mostly cannon fodder at 1.4mil SP tho.

3M SP is not a 'huge amount' as I pointed out above. If you've really played 2 months you should have:
Starter char 800K SP + (60 days x 24000 SP = 1.4M SP) = 2.2M SP
If you train learning skills that rate goes up to over 1500 SP/hr = 36,000 SP/day
in one month you would train 1.08M SP.
Many Corporations will take a character with 3M SP, it won't take long.
Some Corps (no comment on their quality) will take you now - just stick an advert in the recruitment forum.

If your friend is a PVP'er he should be able to get you in his corp or alliance, if not ask him if he knows of a corp. Most Corp's put that restriction down due to alts and spy's but if you can get someone to speak on your behalf most corps don't mind people that want to PVP. I know I wouldn't -----------------------------------------------

There are corps that accept players without millions of SPs.
Check out the recruitment section and see what's there.
You could always check out Eve University too. I hear they have excellent training in all things Eve. Hang with them for awhile, make some connections there and you'll find a good corp where you can do whatever it is you enjoy doing

Thanks, I've basically played trial + one month so I guess a month and half is a better estimate. Most of my learning skills are at 3, some 4. I foolishly decided to go right for a BS and, like I said I didn't train AT ALL for the first while of my account.
Thanks for all the responses I've gotten. My roommates have never been into anything "big" they are both 24m+ SP players and all they say is "get your caldari state up, train more skills!" I think once I'm at 5+ caldari state they will get back into eve..I hope...until then I'm grinding lvl 2 zainou by myself =/

(1) Join Eve University: they will teach you a lot about how the game works
(2) Then join Agony Unleashed: they will teach you how to kill people and take their stuff. Passing the Agony course will get you an intro into a lot of corps. It's like having a college degree in shooting people in the face!
(3) Meanwhile, mosey over to the skills forum and read up on some of the threads concerning learning skills. You should have a LOT more than 1.4M SP at 3 months.
Keep your drake at wherever it is you run missions. You don't need an alt just yet to fund your PvP, because you'll be fighting in frigates and cruisers (I hope). Do NOT try and PvP in a drake yet: you simply don't have the skills. Again, talk to the guys in Agony.

BTW Props for not whining that the game is too hard / boring / has nothing for new players. Asking for advice to fix the problem is the right attitude, and good attitude will get you a lot further in EvE than a few extra skillpoints.

I cant emphasize this enough, EvE Uni does not sound like a good corp but SERIOUSLY, give it go, they are EXCELLENT. youll get community, prolly a war or 2 and a LOAD of low SP people all in the same boat as you who are looking to learn.
EvE Uni 4tw.
honestly, its prolly the best organisation for newbs in any game anywhere.

Don't join Agony unless you want to learn to station camp and sit stealthed in safespots till you find 1 hauler flying around. There are better pvp training corps, just have to do some research.

Notorious lie! I was in 3 their courses and we never picked only defenseless lonely prey. Some of my game buddies were on other Agony courses and they never reported such tactic.

Edited by: Ripard Teg on 23/02/2008 18:44:13 Edited by: Ripard Teg on 23/02/2008 18:43:44 I would recommend checking out AGONY Unleashed PVP-University. Unlike EvE University it doesn't require you to leave whatever corp you're in. Since you're in an NPC corp I doubt that will be a problem, but you can feel free to check out AGONY at any time at www.agony-unleashed.com
Also, running hauler missions in 0.0 and assuming your PVP fleet will be there to save you For The Lose.

You have done decently for yourself in just two months. With 100 million isk you should easily be able to afford to PvP in tier 1 cruisers - the insurance covers most of the loss if you use basic cheap components.
So just go for it and see if you like it. Join Red vs Blue i'd say, they seem to have the right attitude and there's lots of new players with them i think.

This.....
Eve really comes to life when you are playing with other people. I wouldn't worry about whether your roommates are going to be more active or not; go forge your own path.
Eve is a sandbox, you have to figure out what you want to do then try to get there; CCP doesn't hold your hand and guide your path. Fortunately you have already seen your future, now just to get there!!
If you want to shoot people, Eve-Uni to learn the game then Agony to learn the basics of PvP. After that there are so many potentials we could have every person online give you a different path
Have fun, fly safe(r) and do as you wish! Make your roommates jealous with the fun you are having...

Whoa, hold up there buddy. Word to the wise, since I'm hearing the dangerous words "funding PvP" out of a non battle-hardened pilot: You cannot buy PvP experience, and without it, you will get abosolutely raped no matter how much ISK you have or how expensive your ship is. If you cannot yet fly a BS (let alone if you only have that many SP), you're probably not ready to take a BC into combat. You'll get pwned in either. Heck with that many SP, I'd be leery of flying a cruiser. Missioning is absolutely nothing like PvP.
The good news is, you don't have to wait to join a corp. Best way to learn is to join up and fight alongside them in a frigate, and move your way up. If you get a 0.0 corp with ratting, you won't even need an indy alt to fund your PvP activities. And being out there will give you all the pvp learning that you'll need.
Keep in mind, competent pilots (and active) are the most valuable resource in EVE.

I haven't seen this advice given yet but...
Try eve university. I've had m8s who have gone through the program and I haven't heard any complaints. It sounds like a great way to learn from others mistakes rather than making the same ones most of us made... over and over. There are other "noob" training corps out there who probably do a very good job training in their specific type of pvp. Agony unleashed iirc harrass the pure blind pipe in wicked frigate/destroyer gangs.
If I were you, I wouldn't waste time to train for a raven for pve, a drake seems to do fine in most situations, is cheaper to lose, and cheaper to fit.
For pvp, I'd focus on frigate, ew, and tackling skills. Many corps will take a lower SP player, especially if you show that you have the necessary skills and attitude to play a role.
Eve is a great game but it's the people that make it that way. Good luck in finding the right place for you.
