I just read a review of EVE, and it mentioned you can make money by 'exploring'. I've only been playing for 3 days... but I have no idea what that means.
Anyone?

I think what that is refering to is when you fly out to say and astroid field turn on your scanner and scan for a spacial anomoly, sometimes you will find one. Warp to it and generally you will need to kill stuff. You can potentially get some good loot or bounties from those, especially in low sec space.

Edited by: Velodra Gison on 23/02/2008 20:16:08 Exploring means using scan probes to find hidden sites that can't be found otherwise. These sites can be combat sites, asteroid belts with rare ore or a site with containers you can open by using the hacking or archaeology skills. Sometimes these sites have very litle rewards but you can also be lucky and earn alot of money from one. If you want to try it or know more details then take a look at this guide.

It means you use scan probe launchers to find hidden sites. They can be hidden deadspace complexes, hidden gas mining sites (used for making boosters), hidden archaeology/salvage sites, or hidden hacking sites.
Download this guide to your computer, read it over. Then join the "Exploration" channel in game, and you'll find a bunch of people willing to help with any questions you may have after that..
remember that Exploration is the most random thing in EVE. You can spend hours upon hours tracking down a complex and have it only give you ~5 mil. You can spend 20 minutes tracking down a complex and get 200 mil out of it.

No. You can go out near planets and use your ship scanner to find cosmic anomalies (hidden deadspace complexes), exploration is completely different.

Others have explained it already, but at 3 days in you are better off running low end missions and salvaging the wrecks from them. That is the most efficient way to make money early on, althou you will need a salvaging book which sells for about 1 mil.
Exploration is fairly skill intensive and doesnt yeild much unless you are in low-sec or ideally 0.0 space.
