Edited by: Mystic5hadow on 24/02/2008 11:45:21 For some reason.. When I think of the closest movie that resembles the EvE Universe.. I think of Wingman.
God help me.
I'd love to have an ACTUAL EvE movie come out

Uwe Boll usually handles all the "game to movie" movies.
So be careful what you wish for. -----

There's not a single redeeming quality about any of them.

Oh, and dear lord if CCP ever did give him the rights to make an EVE movie, I'd cancel my account on the spot.
I'm not kidding.

To be honest, what director is picked for a game-to-movie adaption isn't really limited to any specific ones. Uwe Boll - well, he goes to the comapnies looking to make movies out of games and says "hey guys, I've got more experience in making game movies than any of my competitors", which is true if you look at the number of movies he has churned out. I'm sure that such statements carry some weight with the management in many cases, who probably don't watch such movies in the first place, and have no idea about the quality of his works. I'm also sure he's pretty affordable, too.
On the other hand, if you're ambitious (and wealthy) enough, there's little stopping you from hiring one of the really big names. Blizzard Entertainment for example had at one point serious talks going on with Peter Jackson (LotR trilogy, King Kong, etc.) about directing their planned Warcraft universe movie. I think they picked someone else in the end - that, or they haven't decided yet - but you have to admit: if you can people like Peter Jackson honestly interested in your project, the stereotypes of game adaptions being B-movies is starting to crumble.
I'm not entirely sure who I would wish to direct a hypothetical EVE movie, to be honest. I'm sure there are a lot of good choices, and I know dreadfully little about directors in general.

Seriously. I would love the idea. However, I am quite afraid it would end up as sad as some of the other game-to-movie films we have seen lately. Doom come to my mind, although Resident Evil scores high, but they have had a complete different budget to fall back on. I doubt EVE ands CCP could sc*****a budget large enough to get the movie to a quality it would honour the game itself.

What would be better is a movie that is made from an enhanced-graphics client, with ambulation.

Can't be done for the same reason a Warhammer 40k movie can't be done.
Hollywood cinema is just not ready to commit to a seriously dark world. Oh, they'd get the explosions and the fighting ok (although I'd bet the screw up with "fighter pilot" hooha). But they would be unable to do the grimness properly.

When ever I hear about a game based movie, I tend to remember the D&D movie and vomit.
Having said that, if an Eve based movie was done, I'd recommend making it something of a Freelance space merc/pirate movie, but minimal stress on "merc" and more stress on "freelance". I'd also recommend not even trying to make the main characters into "dark heros", or even into "dark killers". The main characters should be concerned with getting loot/paid, and their professional connections. If they MUST have heros, look at the movie "The Professional" for ideas. And at least 1/2+ of the movie should be ship board combat, preferably 2/3+.
Edit: as much as I loved "most" parts of Starwars, an Eve movie would fail BADLY if they try for even remotely that much "plot".
Play nice while you butcher each other.
