I've noticed that everyone getting lag has an ISP that doesn't connect directly to C&W. For example, NTLworld does. I have comcast, and the ONLY lag I get is switching between systems.

Quote: Thought these servers could handle 100K people...
Don't quote me on this (hah!), but I believe CCP's reference to 100k players would be regarding the architecture of the system. That is to say, the way the compenents work (DB's, front end servers, network, optimizations, whatever else).
I don't believe CCP ever said the currently sized system can handle 100k. If they did:
All said and done though, CCP does need to at least take a look at the current lag problems on Saturday/Sunday nights. There is a problem, but what it is, and how to fix I can't say, since I know nothing about the architecture of the server systems. Throwing more servers at the issue is probably not the best solution, it almost never is.

I can't say i've been experianceing lag running 1 account in Full Screen Mode. But running 2 accounts in Window Mode I get slapped with lag BIG time. This is on 1 computer of course.
Com. Specs:
Dell 4400 P4 1.7ghz 512mb DDR SDRAM PC2700 40gb hard drive 7200rpm GF FX 5200 128mb ddr(piece of junk) Sound Blaster Live 1650 16 bit (old but still good)
I know if I add 1 more 512mb ram stick and upgrade my Video card i will have little to none lag with 2 accounts running in Window Mode. What is your system specs Nillis? ------------------------------------------------ A Plague is comming.... |

ohh i forgot to add to my post earlier on.
great online games are not defined by how many people they can cram onto the servers.
Giving the impression they want to cram so many people onto the servers at once, regardless of the decrease in game performance.
It's the quality, not the quantity that counts after all
What is the darn use in having over 10k people playing at once, if the performance goes down to the point of people losing items and ships because of increasing lag spikes?
This is not an 'attack' post, it's a 'concern' post |

I've experienced very little or no lag. Biggest fight was an 80-90 ship fleet battle. It wasn't 90 FPS but was very playable.
What I notice is that log-on and session change times are longer.

I **tried** to kill 2 rookie pirates npc for my agent. It took over 5 minutes with 5 hammerheads and 5 220mm proj on my ship. I was in Nonni. Don't tell me it ain't lag.
I never experience such lag with eve. But this week end, it was unbearable. I just logged off.
Btw took me 5mins to dock.... --------------------------

3 connections to my newsgroup supplier (total 180k's) and two Eve sessions running last night .... no lag for me <shrug>
2meg Blueyonder user but in reality only had 60k of it for the two Eve sessions but thats more than most of you have for one (assuming your broadband users).
Maybe there is something wrong with there internal routers to some of the server clusters or some of the servers are not setup "equal"?

I still think it has to do with their unique proxy service to the US.
When saying "I have no lag"/"I have lag" can you please put where geographically you are.

Physically located in the US (midwest).
In-game operating out of Genesis, mostly but also some in Lone Trek, Throne Worlds, The Forge ...
No significant lag this weekend (includes a long session on 2004-04-04, 1700-2300 GMT). Coming out of warp next to a gate, there WAS a stutter, but never anything that interfered with gameplay.

I had some lag yesterday also. From Kansas, USA.
We can't blame it all on the new players though, at least the free trial players, they only allow 800 at a given time. I know this because I was one of them a couple weeks ago.
As with most online games I've ever played, when the servers get loaded, the game lags. ________________________________________________ From deep in space where nobody hears my screams... Sometimes in fear, sometimes in anger, mostly just my singing style. |
