The 8k barrier broken. That really is great news for ccp,But for a lot of Eve players it means a lag fest. I've just lost my ship to npc rats thanks to lag,it was only a Kestral but non the less its still a ship loss. Every weekend now with more and more players joining Eve its getting impossible to have stable game play. CCP,I hope you sort this out or you are going to find yourself with a few less paying customers

I was undocking from a station in Orvolle in a rooky frigate, naturally the sentry guns and concord started shooting at me since I have bad sec stat,
My alt was outside in by battleship ready to escort me to 0.0 since I knew I would be in a pod, when my Ibis blew up as I knew it would do I entered the station again and had lost my clone, I got reimbursment from a GM right after wards though since NPC shouldnt be able to pod kill.
But here is the tricky part, my alt was out side the station and there was only a can with basic miner, no corpse and no one else but my alt outside the station so no one took the corpse, it just vanished with the ship.
So there is no lag in the game Spawn of the Devil

Funny, I havent experienced any lag in a long time, even when there's 8000+ users on. I usually get some lag when the server is at 3k-4k users. -

Edited by: Qwakrz on 04/04/2004 20:33:54 Sorry but I have to agree with the first post
Every sunday since the 8K barrier was broken I have had problems & by the looks of the drops in the server stats, I suspect you have had problems as well. There are occasionally sharp drops in the number of people online as if a node has folded.
Can you look into it and fix it asap
Thanks

Just adapt your play at busy times. Refrain from doing the things that either take you to the lag points, or put your ship at risk in low sec systems.
Rediscover the joys of high sec system mining, maybe dabble in the markets for a while, rediscover the old routes you used to use before the superhighways arrived....

It's too easy to blame CCP for lag.
I get similar lag at peak times and at off-peak times (not very much). The only negative effect I see of large numbers of players is longer docking/undocking and jumping.

oh and we should blame ourselves for the fact that CCP gave out oodles of trials without the ability to control the server population? riiiight...i'm paying for the game, why should i have to adjust my schedule because CCP screwed up? This is realy not a rant or anything, im not even playing atm. Its just a question for the fanbois...

I too have lost a bs to lag. However, I don't think the lag is because of the increased players. Maybe the loading or systems with a lot of players, but not sure about the combat lag.
It might be all the new content that put in is increasing the data transfer requirements between player/servers.

Erm, don't mine in high sec. We were lagged to hell tonight
Mind you 18 harvesters and 17 ogres, along 5 BS's a vigil and a thorax tend to do that.
And before people complain, .5 is the highest sec we mine. ++++++++++++++++++++ CEO of the Space Munchkins. Fear my kneepads of allure!

I was just in Yulai 20 mins ago. There were 101 people in local and I had no lag at all.

How do you know there wasn't 348 in Yulai and you had massive lag in local info? ¼_¼

Then that proves his point even more. I'd rather have Local lagged than the rest of the game.

It was a joke btw.

I've never experienced any lag at all, even in huge BS battle scenarios. Maybe you guys should worry about your connection more than complain to CCP.

Same, since they optimized the server a while back I've barely had any lag at all, even in battles with 40+ ships with guns blazing. The only time I get lag is when the router I'm being forwarded through is about to crash, which has happened twice since the optimization.

3/10 for useage of the
But...heres a 5+ one:
"Or, maybe, the two incidents are entirely unrelated because its local lag on the node/server..."
wait for it.. wait for it.. here it comes...

I cant resist the "Im alright jack" methodology of flaming others voicing their concerns - the entire reason of a forum after all.. but dont let that stop you. Its a free world.. well, some of it is.
I use a very simple technique for establishing where the lag is coming from. When theres only a few folks on i never have any lag at all, when theres **** loads on i get lag. Everytime. Now, admitedly it could be the sheer cooincidence of an adoring fan trying to swamp my local connection or ISP in some cyber-stalking horror-story-to-be, maliciously and coincidentally timed to coincide with peak users on the weekend.. but, well, i just dont think i can go for that one over....
a bit of lag at CCPs end when theres 8k+ people on and im near a busy system.
I dunno, you seem to be an expert on my ISP and its inherent problems problems routing up the one floor to get to the CCP servers so you tell me:
Is it:
a) Cyber stalking wierdness and bizarre coincidence only
OR
b) lag at CCPs end
I have to say that I really dont know but im sure telling everybody not to say anything about it all will help the situation improve tremendously.
What do you think?

Edited by: Bogenhagen on 05/04/2004 05:25:05 It's not just the highway systems that lagged today. I was out in 0.0 with a few corpmates and we all lagged to where it was unsafe to hunt. It wasn't just where we lived (I'm from the US, one was from Sweden and the other the UK) we all lagged horribly. That fact alone signals server lag to me.
Oh yah, all three of us have 1 megabit DSL connections.

I would have to 2nd that, esp when you are in some party and from diff parts of the world and say using some chat problem and when everyone starts asking "is anyone else lagging?" ya you would think its ccp's end when almost everyone asks that same q
of course when i ask that q and its only me or if someone else asks and its only them then its there isp, its not that hard to figure it out ppl support Idea: QuickInfo an alternative to ShowInfo

I have been experiencing lag esp. the last week. There is nothing wrong with my connection (1.6mbit) or my computer. I think the problem is there is way too many ppl on at the same time, never experience lag when there is a few ppl on. I really hope this problem is solved cause i'm starting to get really annoyed..

I payed the core of Empire a visit yesterday to pick up some stuff. Laggy, laggy, laggy. I quickly got my stuff and went back to 0.0.
I prefer to stay at the outskirts of Empire and in 0.0 because I hardly ever have any lag there when there are a lot of players online, but down near the highways it's bad. -------------------------

It must be a proxy somwhere or somewhere else along the line from your house to the ccp server...
Fact of the matter is that i was playing last night with 8770 people on line and i had NO LAG whatsoever.
The only thing i noticed is a tiny increase in loading times from one system to another...and it hicks up when i warp to a gate that had 20-25 ships hanging around and jumping in and out all the time...but this is normal.
I traveled through new caldari yesterday which is a very busy system and even there, there was no lag.
So obviously the problem is not on CCP's side. I'm not saying 'its your fault' but its certainly not a problem with the server....my guess would be its a proxie thats to crowded.
Originally by: cashman It's time for Eris to get a clue. CCP should make a statement about this.
It's the exact same things as what Zombie did, you may not attack in "safe-areas" (empire/within sentry range) without loosing your ship.

Edited by: Jake Pliskin on 05/04/2004 10:14:35 i have the ultimate solution, in a couple months, they'll be back down to 5 or 6k max on sundays, as those trial accounts expire and let's face it a certain proportion will take advantage of the 'freebie' and not go on to pay to play. Then the lag situation should improve
I also believe there will be less people playing the game from the EU countries as from early June (but i've gone into all those reasons in the past) |

OK, I got dead laggy last night too, in Yulai <eep> of all places, 5 mins to jump in & 3 or so to jump out.
It not being CCP's problem, when this happened last week why did they have to restart the server at peak numbers time?
Why is it only really laggy at peak time on a Sunday?
Thought these servers could handle 100K people...
Just a question.

Grimster, they never said these servers could handle 100k people right away. They might be able to handle it with optimization, tweaks and more servers*.
* Servers, not shards. Duh.
