Ok I think its time to build a new forum, or something.. I'm not alone when saying we are SICK of always broken logins hitting the edit or reply button and it forwarding you back to the forum root, trying to log in but only getting a forward back the forum root with out you logged in.
There are tons other things not working on your little peace of custom POS forum / parts of your site. eve game is only 2/3's of your game, and the other 1/3 of your game hasn't been upgrade / updated in years.
In saying UPGRADE YOUR WEBSITE.. don't back end unseen updates, do FULL UPGRADES. START OVER.. (like you should be doing with eve it self in most places)... start from a blank file and build a new forum and others tools for eve. .. while your are it same thing could be said about parts of eve.
We both know if you started over your fix most maybe all of the lag issues. Time to start eve 2.0 ccp ...

I used to get that problem, but if you use "Save Password" it will auto log you in. just remember to log out and delete cookies if needed :)

The forums do need some love.
That said, please leave the details of software engineering to the experts. What you suggest is a terrible idea and should not be done. The forums, more or less, work. They don't need to rewrite them from scratch, and they certainly don't need to rewrite most of EVE.

These forums lack all the extra features of most other forums, but I think that's a good thing. It cuts out all the distractions and makes us concentrate on what we put in the text window salamander funstick

Ok- so what you are saying is- eve needs a rewrite, forum needs a rewrite-
you sure you are actually playing the right game? 
Jokes aside- There was mention of a total redo of many things concerning the eve back-end- Since I am originally only replying to make fun of the OP I won`t bother looking for & listing any links (*cough* search feature), but I think they are on it (Player wiki and stuffs)-
Would be nice to get a new devblog about that and its current status- then again: it`s just ZE FORUM

Man that'd be so cool, going Usenet style on the forums. I miss them times.
Wonder how such an idea would get welcomed nowdays, "Hey, we scrap the forums and put up this usenet server for you, enjoy!"

It actually is pretty hard to develop a forum from scratch. There's your question answered. :)
note really, I have done about 40 different forum styles in my time, after you do your first one, all the others get easy as most of the errors you get worked out with the first one, and you learn not to make any of the same errors again.
It really will not be so hard for CCP do redesign and program new forums... That work. The issue is that sometimes you just need to redo software as the old one may work just fine, just new software versions comes out, new asp functions that redo a lot of the old ones that will make building a new forum a lot easier.
With the game my logic behind redoing it all is this. Over time a project (eve) can get so big, so in depth that you lose focus on some things in game. There are limits to the current software that eve is built on, and only way to build on the current state of eve to to build on the current state of the programming language behind eve.
Using a new language that has expanded over the years and that is more than able to handle what eve may become is the only way to go in my eyes.
See eve has to build the programming language then eve, or drive the people to work harder to build on the language so that eve can move forward.

I think these forums look good and work well mostly.
The one thing it's lacking desperately is a good search feature. I want to search by topic, content, but most importantly date. There needs to be an option to either limit results to newer posts, or to order by date descending. I do a search and quite often come up with results from 2003/2004, making it quite painful to browse through for the newer ones.

CCP how hard it is to build a forum that works... or a game that works? CCP can you do anything right? Even your billing system is not as it should be.

i'd strongly recommend the beehive forum project.
for those of us fortunate enough to have enjoyed Delphiforum's halcyon days, it's like a rose tinted nostalgia enema of packed full of features coated in a thick lubricating layer of usability.

Having a coherent login system would be a good start.
To make this post:
I clicked on Reply,
got taken back to the login screen despite logging in 30mins ago,
got taken to the main forum index rather than the Reply page,
had to find this thread again,
clicked Reply again.
And that's without mentioning the need to login indepenantly for every single page on the left hand menu.

* it is really hard, CCP are trying their best so STFU
* name one other space MMO forum with thousands of users that works as well
* what's the point in fixing it, people will just post more until it stops working again
* CCP owe you nothing, it says so in the EULA, so STFU

I wouldn't want a cosmetic change to the forums. As for the minor bugs, I feel these forums server their purpose quite too well.

yea the look and fell of the forum works, really well if you ask me. But basic functions needs a major over haul. Like logging it, cookie control, and other issues.
