This thread is just to get an idea of how many people are actually paying for EVE *and* using the OSX client.
People tend to come onto forums and complain and make dramatic statements about leaving. How about, just to be different, we hear from the people who are staying :)
It seems there are lots of threads around with people complaining about stuff(hell, some are mine), which may put of some newer players that might be sitting on the fence. And let's be honest, it's not all tears and spilt milk.
So don't be scared new people, the OSX client is very playable. In fact, I have two paid accounts and thoroughly enjoy the game on a daily basis.

I love using the mac client for two major reasons: 1: I get to use OSX and not dual boot or some other nonsense that puts me in the XP environment.
2: I crash maybe once a week or two weeks, have very little trouble with anything, and generally, I'm online in a more stable way than many PC users.

Took my about two weeks to convert my trial. Booting into Bootcamp is too disruptive to the other stuff I usually have running so I'm regularly on the OSX client 90% of the time I'm in game.

I'm using the OS X client now much more since the last patch.... almost exclusively over the last week actually. But I have to say not when I'm going to be in combat of any kind since it does sometimes crash on me. Seems to be an issue where the longer the client is running the less stable it gets and sometimes it gets to the point of crashing at the login screen, then I have to reboot. It also seems to affect other apps - after I left it overnight, it crashed and other apps refused to run with error messages along the lines of "not enough memory". Only rebooting solves these problems ... I rebooted my mac more times since the mac client than during the previous 3 years combined.
So until that problem goes away, all combat will happen in bootcamp.
Cheers

Edited by: Baba Akili on 27/02/2008 04:56:38 I have a paid account for myself and another one for my son(s). We use OSX client on both. After my last lost ship due to a freeze/crash I have been one of those "making dramatic statements about leaving". I haven't left quite yet, though, I also have not gone back in to play since the last lost ship. I started a long term skill to train and continue to mull it over. Making such decisions while angry are not always the best, so I have imposed a cooling off period on myself. As I like the game, but then become very frustrated by the instability and fact that CCP really does not own up to the level of instability and essentially second class status us (or at least some of us) Mac users have to endure playing the game. At this point I will train and watch from afar to see if there is any tangible time line on the much promised mac client stability fixes in the near future. My kids have not been burned yet and enjoy playing also, so against my better judgement financially I will bide my time (heck its their college money :) I complain and document my misfortune not to be a whiner or a negative influence on the "EVE community", but to press the point that work needs to be done to bring the game up to the level of being the really great and incredible game it could be.

I've been playing Eve for a long time. I just bought a Mac pro, so now I'm running the Mac client.
The first couple of runs were not great, it crashed while trying to view info both times. I have two account, but I have not tried to run them both yet. We'll see how that goes.
I'm going to stick with it for now, but I hope it gets fixed soon.

I have been playing for about 2 weeks on the OSX client. It has crashed maybe twice. I have tried using VMWARE Fusion with the Windows client, but it is a lot slower, and the graphics have a nasty magenta caste. Personally, I was surprised it even runs on VMWARE at all.
So... no real problems for me yet, touch wood.

I downloaded the OSX client when it became available in November, converted from trial to paid after two weeks with the trial, and have been using the OSX client since then. Overall, it's been running very well on my 24" aluminum iMac (4 GB RAM). Crashes maybe 2 or 3 times a week, and I usually play for an hour or two daily. The crashes are usually of the "suddenly unexplicably quits to finder" variety, and I haven't looked at the console log lately to see the reason or stack trace. In the past when I've looked, I see some symbols that imply Cider code.
Great game - thank you CCP for providing Mac capability and support!

I am playing with the mac client, and have been since it came out (and before that in crossover since I started playing Eve)
That said, I've entirely stopped playing most of the game, which is PVP oriented, because of the nearly 1B isk I've lost due to the "Show Pilot Info" bug that has been widely reported and is not reimbursed because it's a client side bug that "can't be verified." If I didn't enjoy Eve as much as I do, I'd have quit a long time ago, since 1B isk constitutes a huge amount of my life down the drain due to a bug that's been known for a long time, and with absolutely no customer service on the part of CCP.

I have two paid accounts that I access daily, many times simultaneously on my MacBook Pro. I have had a couple issues with the OSX client, but the vast majority of my crashes have been heat related. (I really want a desktop machine of some sort...)

It rarely crashes on me. when it does, however, it is usually a big deal and causes problems. I can easily run two clients at once. I love that ccp made the client and cannot wait for a *real* mac client. (emulation is for lazy towels)

Edited by: Alqualonde on 29/02/2008 00:13:56 I would definitely use it most of the time if it were stable (don't even mind crashes, so much as it makes the rest of my computer crash) and performance didn't get so badly killed when I upgraded to Leopard.
Most of the time I'm not in a fleet and don't need every last fps I can get, and wouldn't bother rebooting if the Mac client weren't so slow on my MacBook Pro at the moment. (It was a lot better in Tiger IIRC.)

I pay, and I'm happy CCP opened the game to MacUser. I guess with more and more Macs being sold, we can hope more and more games will be available for us. In spite of all the bugs, I'm happy to be playing this. The game is more stable for me compared to the first versions, aside from a nasty crash last week or so where I lost what, a $60M boat with rigs and insurance and such (got 30M back form insurance), so it was painful. Growing pains you may say... ------------------ Veldspar fears me.

I too converted my trial to a paid account back in November and have been playing since. Like most, I've had lots of crashes and have posted hopefully constructive criticism'. I haven't lost anything of value (except to pirates in lo sec :) so I'm not too put out. This is the only Mac program I can recall that has ever crashed so much though. The user interface is also so very PC'ish....all the constant right/left clicking and window resizing and rearranging forces me to quit after a few hours to rest my mouse hand. I think in the long run if CCP wants people to take the game seriously they will need to do some crash proofing and make common UI elements easier to access. Great game though...love the depth

Edited by: Roran Palancar on 29/02/2008 20:40:22 I'm using the osX client on a MacBook... that's below spec ;) I love the game so much I'll suffer through the flashing graphics low frame rate (but seriously, I think with a few tweaks it could run better... if I change the resolution or interval rate from 4 -> 3 or 3 -> 4, the flashing/crazy graphics goes away for a while). Oddly enough the game hardly crashes for me unless it is an overheating issue.
Oh yeah. I was on the 14 day trial and then upgraded to the paying account.

I upgraded my account and use the mac client for most things other than attempted pvp. Unfortunately the client runs much more smoothly and more stable on the XP side of my MBP after underclocking it, so I'm tending to use that more often, but I still love that I can play Eve on my OSX partition :3

I'm using the Mac client on a Mac Pro [what a delightfully powerful beast :)].
I started paying for my subscription today, but I'm not actually sure whether that will be permanent.
I am experiencing very frequent crashes where the client just shuts down without warning. I've been reading on a known bug but that's not what I'm getting. Sometimes the client won't have opened before it crashes, sometimes it crashes twice in a row before it really opens. Mostly the client closes down mid-session. Doesn't matter what I'm doing. There is no seemingly reproducible scenario. The client just closes without error.
I have many years experience with software issues and I can forgive a lot of quirks, but I absolutely understand the people who see many weeks of time wasted through no fault of their own and are royally ****ed off about it. The game is a challenge and sometimes you'll lose the challenge. Any reasonable person will accept that reality. When the ante is upped that you can lose your work because of a bug in the software, that's where the fun stops.
CCP -know- about this problem, they are aware of it. They can either not help it, it costs too much money to fix it, or they don't care to [don't raise your eyebrows, sometimes software vendors really don't care to resolve known issues. Trust me, I've seen it more than once.]
A client closing down is a show stopper, in the most literal sense of the world, chances are that there will be a fix for this. Crashing through normal use of the client should not happen.
CCP demonstrates they can make a really awesome game. I would expect they care enough about it that they will eventually resolve this problem.
At their product's PDT [Product Development Team] meeting they are discussing this issue and they are, most definitely, aware of our comments on these boards.
CCP: don't break my heart, fix my client.
I'll invite you to my barbecue.

I am paying as well - I waited until I wanted to train a skill that was not available to Trial accounts.
I have come up with a few things that seem to help performance (I have not had a lock up for two weeks now):
1) run it full screen - windowed mode = frequent crashes 2) 'show info' only when docked. 3) do not close the 'show info' window while docked and I can do multiple 'show info' on pilots, as long as I wait a few minutes in between. 4) once I undock, do NOT do a 'show info' until I quit and restart
I am hoping 1.1 fixes the 'show info' bug.
here is my config:

I'm paying. The EVE client is stable enough that I can get through most nights of play without crashing - but I'm only ever mining or running missions solo or in small fleets (2 to 4 people).
Once I'm finished playing (this includes crash-to-desktop), I have to reboot my iMac otherwise graphics for the whole OS are messed up.
Sometime this week I'm hoping that my character will become self-funding - at which point I will no longer care about stability of the client as long as I can still rake in the ISK for the game to be free.
I certainly wouldn't be continuing my subscription if I had to pay after this month.
I like EVE because I can reasonably log in, find something to do for half an hour, then go cook dinner, and come back to finish what I was doing. I don't have to find a group of exactly 5 people, who all rolled exactly the right character two years ago. For fleet operations, I can switch ships on the fly to complete a mission - logistics one hour, missile boat the next, the come in with a salvage boat to clean up the mess.
The concepts in this game are excellent, it's just a crappy client that I am complaining about. The gameplay is compelling enough that I've paid to play it for a couple of months now. After this month though, the character either becomes self-sufficient or the subscription ends - there's only so many times I can reboot a Mac OS X computer in one night before I die a little inside.

I've actually had a pretty good experience so far. I've only had a couple random crashes in the past two weeks and the only real problem I have is with checking profiles while in warp or around gates. Quite playable, especially if I don't get opening profile happy. I don't crash everyday anymore.

Heh, sounds like the beginning of an AA meeting...
MBP, 2.16 Core 2 Duo 2gig
When my client starts crashing, rather than rebooting (ugh), I simply log off the mac then log back in - cleans everything up, and it's the same as a rebootie. Faster too, and I don't have that little part of me dying from restarting OSX :D
One thing I noticed: In the config file located at \Users\(InsertYourLoginHere)\Library\Preferences\EVE Online Preferences\config in the catagory [x11drv] there is an entry "VideoRam" = "256" However, my vid card has 128mb ram When I changed it to 128, things became more stable...
Hope that helps!

--- Been here since November. Crashes are far less then in November or right after Trinity, which was indeed a crash fest. Bought a second char a week after I payed for this one and am considering a 3d. Crashes still occur, but way less then before, and if Eve crashes my Mac isn't as garbled up like in the beginning where everything else started to crash after an Eve crash.
I love the overal maturity of the community, and it is a serious challange to get some (freelance) work done during the day and not float in Eve all day.... Am patiently awaiting the next patch, and ambulation.

I've been playing since September 2006, and I started using the Mac client on my MacBook Pro right when it came out. At least in the past couple of months, I have had no problems at all with crashing clients. Even with two accounts logged in at once (separate EVE client .app and Preferences folders), it works just fine.
I have the original MacBook Pro 17", 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo, 2GB RAM, ATI Radeon X1600 256MB.
I play EVE exclusively on Mac OS X on my MBP, since I could never get the Linux client to get past a black screen on my desktop.

I suppose i should post here too.
Ive been playing for a bit over ten months now and used to run the doze client in crossover and then moved to parallels for that. Since the mac version came out ive stuck with it over rebooting (the other two solutions seem redundant now) and using boot camp to play, except when i fancy a gawp at the pretty premium graphics. Despite the problems in the mac client i think ill be sticking with it because its playable for me and is just so much more convenient, but i really do hope a concerted effort is taken to fix the biggest bugs present at the moment. For me, the premium graphics and other stuff like antialiasing comes secondary to that, although thats not to say i dont want to see those things in the future.

All mac users know there is a waiting period for good Mac software. Being a Mac driver for 20+ yeears, I think the Trinity mac client is a sweet piece of work on the part of CCP. I had crash issues along with all the other Mac drivers but they wernt really so bad. 2 to 3 crashes a week, concidering the size and detail of Eve doesn't seem to bad. My Corp mates had to show info from time to time, they still give me updates on other player when we are flying togeter. I have trained them well. LOL. The issue overview window reseting after dock or a jump is a little annoying. I'm sure it'll get fixed soon enough. I would like to be able to do voice in Eve. My corp mate do it, but I have yet to figure out how to set it up on my client. anyone has any info please get with me.
Thanks,

I also pay for two accounts, and my play alternates between the Mac client and a PC client ... depending on where I am and how long I can get away to play. The new 1.1 patch has significantly improved play on the Mac for me ... and actually made play on the PC a little harder, particularly when playing both accounts at once. Playing just one account on either Mac or PC has not given me any problems at all since the patch.

Runs like a charm using the mac client. I'm just a little disapointed about the difficult of using the mac keyboard, I have to press the Fn key before using F1-F8 , but other than that, it's great, very stable, I haven't crashed yet, and I play around 3 or 4 hours in a row.
All in all, a job well done, at least for me =)

I'm playing using the OS X client on a new black-and-silver iMac. When I first started, it crashed a lot (at least twice a day), but crashes have been very rare since the first patch to Trinity, maybe once every few weeks.
I'm certainly not leaving, although I would really like to see premium graphics for the Mac client; I recently booted up EVE on a friend's PC and was instantly blown away by the difference.

I would probably play on the Mac client more if it supported the Trinity Graphics. Rebooting into Windows via Bootcamp just to play EvE gets old after a while.I haven't been playing much and will probably cancel my subscription if They don't update sooner than later. Apple really needs to get up to speed with the gaming community and software companies need to start writing for Macs. Non of this Wine stuff. Very disappointing that Spore will be run the same way and Warcraft is getting old. But in 5 days I can fly my Damnation so we'll see if that gets me back into EvE a little. ;-)

I started playing and paying for Eve Online once the Mac OS X client was released. And, in fact, the release of the Mac OS X client of Eve Online was when I told myself I'd buy an Intel based Mac. It's a bit crashy on my MacBook Pro, but I have no intention of using the Windows client at all.

Personally, I too am frustrated by the frequent crashes. I am not a bootcamp user currently, but I have thought about buying an XP license just for running EVE. It would be nice to get the premium graphics too (assuming that's possible on a 15" MBP with 3GB RAM...). |

By happy coincidence the long awaited purchase of my 24" iMac materialised at the same time as the release of the Mac client. Now I happily play both my accounts on the Mac (and on a wintel laptop when I need to dual box) :) And I have to say that recently it's been far more stable than my Vista running laptop.
Having seen a number of Mac users complain about the client I just have this to say: Complaining and threatening to ditch your Mac version for a PC for whatever reason - usually "because it sucks", without any clear indication of the issues you are experiencing - is a sure sign that you lack the maturity or intelligence to contribute to the growth of EVE and especially the Mac client.
The Mac client is how many months old ? and the PC client is how many *years* old?? Of course there are going to be instabilities and bugs in the new system - this is the way it is with all new software! It takes time and end user support to help a product grow. So instead of whining, start contributing positively - take the time to log bugs and issues to support the growth of the client for your preferred platform.

I have been a Mac client user since I discovered it in November 2007. At first it crashed a lot while undocking or jumping. Now it seems a bit more stable and I am having much more fun with the game.
Side note: Patch for today will not proceed automatically. Web page does not have update available. What is this Eve lover to do?

1.2 patch.
I am (still) experiencing screen freezes. This makes it impossible for to start an engagement or even to do some simple ratting in low sec. Sometimes I really wonder why i am still paying for two accounts.
How difficult can it be to commit yourself (beeing CCP) to present the community a decent OSX client. If would produce the same quality in RL someone would sue my ass off.
What a pity, EVE is such a great game.

I've only ever played on a MacBook Pro, spec'd below and haven't had as many crashes recently. I do notice that after about 4-5 hours the frame rate tanks and things get pretty laggy. For the most part it's a great experience and one that I'm happy to pay for 2 accounts with.
I would relish the opportunity to play this on a native client someday, just to see how good it could be. I would probably be disappointed though, as I can now just chalk any wonkiness to the fact that it's an emulated port. If it went native, I'd have to admit they needed to seriously fix it. :)

I'm here for at least a year. Started a month ago once I found out there was a Mac client. It does tend to de-stabilize after a few hours of running and crashes which leaves some garbage running generating error messages which seems to cause the client to become even more unstable. The only fix for it I've found so far is to restart. :(
So I find myself using Crossover Games most of the time which has been working well. Certifiable noob! |

Edited by: orangeFool on 24/04/2008 13:30:12 I have a Mac Book Pro with 15" glossy screen, i think the 2.4 GHz model, 2 gig of ram and multi-touch pad and the client runs pretty good on it although i use it as a mining station so its not pushed that hard. Occassional weirdness includes in-station animations running very fast which normally means a client fail is about to arrive (although i haven't seen this since the most recent patch, and this issue happened within minutes of starting the client with my ship in a station). I have had my mac book pro mining at most 14 hours straight (no restarts of client or laptop) and it didn't appear to have lag or performance issues.
The multi-touch pad works a treat: handy for zooming the camera in and out, rotating camera view, etc. It is also good for scrolling lists up and down: buddies, bookmarks, scanner view and so on. I don't use a separate mouse but will do if i run missions on it in future. Previous small mission attempts were tireless using only the multi-touch.
I am looking forward to the premium client for OSX. CCP said it would be in Q1 2008 (meh) but that appears to have been overoptimistic. Maybe Q2?

I've only been in and out sporadically--the last time I resubscribed until yesterday was right before the premium update... needless to say I was disappointed when I found out I wouldn't be getting the new graphics the day of the patch.
But seriously? Still no premium for mac? I'm glad I haven't been in-game waiting for them for the last four months.... |

I pay, I play. The OS X client. I'm surprised as to how stable it is, especially after reading reviews and user experiences stating the oppposite. It is in fact rock solid for me. Steady frame rates on my 2.8GHz 8-core Mac Pro with the 8800GT grahpics card - around 50-70 in stations and between 30 and 50 out in the open. Looks great. I started my trial period in late March/early April, and I converted the trial into paid account on the day the trial was over.
The game is rather complicated - I've joined the OSX chat channel (I could say I'm the quiet one there, but then I've still to see anyone say anything whenever I'm online, hehe). I've had little time to get into the game so far, maybe 2-3 hours a week on average. Just got my skills over 1 million points, and I'm only now about to learn the basics of the game.

I'm paying. I'm on MBP and I started on trial account and ran under BootCamp, but later I moved to Mac version somewhere this February. First time it was really disappointing - like crashed always, so I switched back to BootCamp+Win client. However later, about middle March after some patch came through for Mac, the OS X playing became very stable, may be one crash a week or so, so I now play under OS X and practically very happy with it (and paying!)
By the way - may be this is a bit of side theme, but though I downloaded 'premium' content for my Win client, it ran very bad way - screen and textures flickering all the time, not playable at all - I don't know what's the problem there, and anyway waiting for Premium content appear for Mac OS X client.

3, now 2 accounts here. exclusively on the mac client since jan (i even removed my bootcamp partition =), although back then it was really unstable. the last patch worked wonders for me, no more crashes, character info is useable again.
i'd still like better performance and a preset for windowed mode back (yes, cmd+return, but it's annoying :p)
solo/small gang pvp is fine too, but as soon as there are 20ppl on grid and fighting it gets really laggy. dual accounting is a big no-no from my experience, which is basically the reason i closed my 3rd account (combat alt)

However a few odd graphical glitches on occasion. Only really annoying one is when the skybox is suddenly replaced with garbage and interface icon textures. Looks really funky, but makes it impossible to align to anything in space.

Hi....I'm very very sad about the OS X client. But in lack of a Windows PC I've to use the OS X client to play EVE. It's very "stable" now (compared to the first versions) but there are still a lot of issues.
- high CPU load...if I leave the game with Alt-Tab the rest of the system is not very responsive - no UTF support...I see squares everywhere :/ - Classic Content....hey CCP...when is this done for Mac ?
In general, the Cider stuff is vodoo and the only thing surprising me is the fact, that it run's that good. But CCP....consider a OpenGL client if you want to upgrade the graphics engine next time...this would save a lot of headcache.

Though, I support those who do want the premium graphics. I think the current macs should be capable of running those graphics and if ccp would make more effort and not use a virtualisation solution, it could drag many many more people to eve. [GHUC] Home: http://crescentmoon.de/eve |

I heard about some guys bought a better ventilation system for the card, but I simply open the box and turn on a ventilator directly pointed to the video card, and it works. And yes, I need be cleaning inside each week to remove the dust.

Hi
I'm playing EVE on my iMac with the OSX Client scince ≈ 3 Weeks now :). All in all the Client runs prety stable, although there are crashes from time to time, but not too often. Crashes could be triggered by some action, like opening the map, or opening/using the ingame-browser. But i am not sure about that due to too little game experience ;).
So concerning stabiity the OSX Client is not perfect but really ok - imo, and on my system.

I'm paying for four accounts and I'm using a Hackintosh! A Gigabyte 965P-DS3 motherboard with an Intel E6600 C2D CPU, 4Gb RAM and an 8800GTS with 640Mb on board all running OSX 10.5.4
With Crossover Games I get the odd random lockup and with the native client I get the odd discobox, that's it. Everything else I've done seems to work OK.
I'll soon be replacing it with a nice new 8 core Mac Pro with an 8800 GT.

I play on both a 24" iMac and a *cough* PC. Hands down I prefer playing on the iMac even with the bugs and lack of expansion graphics. Of course that's mostly due to the fact that my screen feels cluttered on my PC's 21" monitor.

I started playing EVE because I very mistakenly thought it was a Mac game, heh heh. The current mac client runs great on both my iMac and my MBP.
Seriously, Mac and EVE seem made for each other, because there is so much the player can do without relying exclusively on FPS turbo-reflexes and the accompanying graphics requirements. And having said that I would also note that EVE graphics are stunning on the 24" intel-based iMac.
So, I've made a hopeful assumption that Mac users will soon discover EVE Online en masse, and take over the Universe, so to speak. And secondarily, that there then will be tools and resources specific to Mac users that need to be aggregated in some way.
I've started up a site for Appleophile EVE players, and I'm looking for content, links, and tools I haven't found yet. I'm just a hobbyist web designer looking for an excuse to design something, but if you think it's got a future I'd love to hear from you.

I started playing EVE ages ago. Then I stopped. Then I started again about 18 months ago. And stopped again. Then, when I learned that they had linux/osx clients, I joined again. Especially because I heard about the new "premium clients".
Then, of course, I quickly learned that the linux/osx support was limited, at best. I really wanted to create two more accounts (total of three) so I could have simultaneous characters exploring very different aspects of the game. I'm having a hard time convincing myself to do this, however, since OSX/LINUX clients are so ignored.
Why don't I play on Windows? Because I'm a software developer and use OSX. There is absolutely no reason I would run Windows other than for gaming and after a couple decades of hardcore PC gaming, I'm tired of maintaining all of my linux boxes, solaris boxes, OSX boxes... AND a couple windows boxes on top of that *just* for gaming. Not to mention the expense of building a top of the line rig every single year (which I did, because I hate gaming with a low-end rig).
Now, could I run bootcamp? Certainly. I have an 8-core Mac Pro with 32gb of ram and dual 8800s. But why should I have to terminate ALL of my activities just so I can boot into windows and play a game? I'd rather be able to play the premium content in a window or on a monitor while still performing my other activities and running my other applications in my preferred OS.
I understand they've painted themselves into a corner using proprietary Microsoft functionality. I don't really care. I just hope CCP pursues this further rather than just regretting their mild attempt to go linux/osx and giving up.

I have been playing Eve for a year now. I started playing on my MacBookPro even before there was a "Mac" client. This was accomplished using Parallel Desktop, a very good Windows environment emulator. The PD environment didn't support the full capabilities of my video card (which meets the requirements for Premium content) and I found the entire system ran quite hot and could lock up because of the high temps. Well the promise of a "Mac" client seemed to be the answer I was hoping for, but I had never really expected it to happen.
I have found that the Cider-powered emulation for the Win-client on my MBP has been good, but I am also one that would love to have the Premium Content. I can't complain at all for the stability of the client. I have only had a handful of times that there was a problem and the client restarts very fast, IMO. Only recently was there a glitch that was affecting Eve-voice and some missing attributes in the overview settings boxes. These were fixed by having the client rebuild the settings folder. There is only one minor flaw I have seen to date and it doesn't seem to effect gameplay at all. When in the starmap screen, hovering over stars for system info can cause the system connection lines to flicker and the outlines on the different boxes of the overview flicker as well.
Minor stuff again, but all in all, I am happy with the client and its functionality. I just want the option for the Premium Graphic Content. I am paying the same monthly fee as everyone else and my hardware complies. Why not offer a reduced rate for those of us that have the hardware and are limited only by the client's abilities (or lack thereof) ? CCP is quick to take money from players by offering a client that is supposed to work for Linux and Mac users, but it's not 100%. I am not going to leave the game because of this, it would just be nice to see the same loyalty returned to me as I have for CCP. ___________________________________________________________

Yes they are. There will be a dev blog within a week.
P.S.: The only question we still have unanswered is when will the week countdown start, as months has passed since they promised it within a week.

After 12 years of using PC, just moved to MAC. Eve runs smoothly on my Mac Pro. Despite warnings from other players I've updated to 10.5.5 from the very begining. So far so good. Comparing rate frame between WinXP/ Mac - its about the same with (I think I have less hiccups while in Mac, especially during loading game after log-in screen). Funny that winXP doesn't recognize 10GB of memory. Overall Mac beats windows. Can easy run video rendering, database sorting, two Eve clients and bunch of other small tasks in background in the same time at CPU %idling at 82%.
Greetings to all Mac users playing Eve.

I just bought a Macbook Pro, 2.6 gHz, 4gig ram, 10.5, running Eve on Crossover Games, fixed the premium graphics and arial font things, but still have the phantom station bug. Still runs fast, no crashes. Also running my alt on a 3 yr old XPS and it works fine as well, but not as fast as the mac, maybe just no lag today or sumthin'.
I put my new Apple sticker on the back of my diesel dually so everybody in microsoft town here could see I threw in the towel with the Blue Meanies ;) |

Originally by: Manada Funny that winXP doesn't recognize 10GB of memory. Overall Mac beats windows.
There are several different builds of each of the late Windows versions. Not only they differentiate Home, Professional, Enterprise, Server etc. but some of them also come in both 32 and 64 bit flavors. Except for the Vista distributions, the 64 bit versions are totally separate and must be purchased separately. AFAIK Vista 64 comes on the same distribution media of Vista 32 bit (but I'm not sure as I do not use any of those). Every 32 bit operating system can only address up to 4 Gb of memory, it will not see any more than that on any machine. Depending on the build each application can get up to 2 or up to 3 Gb of physical memory for non shared/non OS data and code (server builds get more). 64 bit Windows builds can address more. 64 bit XP builds can address up to 128GB depending on versions. 2003 Server 64 bit can address up to 1TB. Not sure of what the limits are on Vista.
OS X and Linux have supported more than 4 GB of memory for ages. Even on 32 bit processors (using PAE). Only some Windows builds have supported PAE, but it was very few people that actually used those.
OS X comes in a single build (two if you consider the server version) that includes 32 bit and 64 bit versions for PPC and Intel processors. It runs both 32 bit and 64 bit applications (on 64 bit processors). 32 bit applications get up to 4GB memory per application. 64 bit applications get up to 18 exabyte per application. Core Duo processors (32 bit processors) can address up to 64GB using PAE extensions. Current Core 2 Duo processors are 64 bit processors and can address up to 256TB. However most mainboards have more severe limitations. Current Mac hardware can be equipped with up to 32GB of RAM.

I downloaded this client when Aple was offering it on their downloads page. I notice that they have since removed it. Perhaps they will put it back on again, if CCP devotes time to resolve the issues with it, bringing free adspace and more users (like me).
When there are bugs in a program, why WOULD mac put the client on their site, when it makes their product look like it underperforms compared to PC? CCP, please be mindful that Apple will support you (it already has) if you will put in the work to support its users. |

I just wanted to post my two cents along with everyone else. I use a Macbook Pro with OS X Leopard. I've used my Mac for over a year now. I have to say, EVE runs so much better on my Mac than it ever did on PC. I have all graphics set to max and what a beauty it is. I do have a slight problem with random text appearing ingame whenever I view the minimap within the star map or I get more details on an agent mission that I'm doing. I don't know what this is about or how to fix it. It's too bad that the premium graphics are not available!!
