My Wife does not like games....she says it steals 'her time'. I have gotten her to accept the fact that even though she doesn't like games, I would keep playing and wait for her to come around. I keep telling her about it whenever the opportunity arises and so we grow her comfort with the idea of eve... I Had just gotten my first Raven.."whoohoo" battleship..hehehe, and when I did my first lvl 4, I nearly lost the ship...crazy me did not insure it...and the rush of warping of while ship is in hull damage was amazing and scary...so i rush out and start explaining the rush I had to my wife....her reply to my ranting about nearly losing my ship was...
"But its just a game, calm down"
she still hasn't regained her credit card privileges....

I had much fun reading this whole thread so far ... sticky material for the fun value.
My wife does not like me spending too much time at the computer. I have to say it's my fault because I do not pay enough attention to her (have to learn some attention skill :-)).
I am still looking for a comfortable arrangment of time and habbits to keep her satisfied as best as possible.

One night I went up to her and bothered her all throughout her American Idle. When it was done, she angrily asked why I was being such a pest.
"Now you know what it's like when you bug me when I'm playing Eve."
She gets to watch her glorified karaoke, I get my internet spaceships, everyone's happy.

Mine was not impressed last week. My corp came under attack and we had to make a concerted effort to sort it out. There I was sitting at the computer desk with my tea (Toad in the Hole, thanks for asking) on a tray on my lap, shovelling it down like it was a total nuisance whilst transfixed on the screen with the mouse in the other hand.
I was too pumped up on adrenaline to eat it all so I got double bad looks for chucking half of it in the bin.
She just didnt appreciate the situation.
She does however, note that Eve is a bit of a cut above the usual PC game. Its better then Anarchy Online, cant believe I played that for a few months.

I don't own the remote in my house, my wife does ,but it all works out in the end as she has her list of shows to watch and is perfectly happy to let me play EVE.
I have tryed to get her to play EVE as well but she see's right through me.. sigh.. so adding another computer is going to have to wait for a bit
She is not happy when I am talking with friends in game. (get the close the door command), but I get to laugh at her when she talks to the TV.
However she does expect me to stop whatever I am doing in EVE whenever she comes in and wants to talk about something she saw or remembered and despite the fact that she can PAUSE the TV and I can't pause EVE when the reverse happens I get in trouble for interrupting (which only makes me do it more)
But all is not bad sometimes her interruptions can be rather fun and a very quick log off it definitely the right answer

Edited by: Simariliia on 28/02/2008 16:45:41 When I meet my first GF, I never even heard of eve, I did train MMA(cagefighting) like 8-9 hours a week, and never drink ect but did go out party now and then. after been together for around 4-5mothns I randomly see this "try eve free for 14 days banner" and i think , oh well lets try, 2-3mothns later and Im a singel man training much less and playing about 10x more:p
well..the army got me a healty break, got together with a very sweet girl, even she doesnt play eve or like it specially much, she kinda got a long with it after a while, as she likes chatting and playing other games on her laptop like ebay and some easy going mmorg(not wow). we been together 1.5y now. but Im still playing eve like 7-8 hours pr day atleast, between work and sleep but kinda got a more distance and lax "relationship" to eve, its no longer a "must" to sit there everyday for 10 hours stright. and half of the time I try to not watch the intel channel ect avoid joining any ops, so that i can take a break from eve whenever my gf need me to do something ect. also try chilling out going to cinema ect once in a while and spoil her decent.

My girlfriend is pretty cool with me playing Eve. She claims to enjoy talking about it because it keeps me happy, but would never play it. Says space isn't her thing. Neither is WoW. SO right now she's MMOless. -------------------------------------------------- My post does not represent views of my Alliance.

After nearly six years of marriage, I have successfully corrupted my wife. Shortly after we were married, I built two computers. My wife inisted that she didn't need her own machine, that she could get by using mine occasionally for email and stuff, but I convinced her it would be useful. Little did she know that it was the start of my master plan...
I'd always been a gamer, and a few months later a friend got me hooked on the world of MMOs, ala Earth and Beyond. Over the years, I've played a number of these online games, and my wife has generally politely tolerated my hobby. Besides, she had her TV shows, I had my games, we were happy
Meanwhile, she gradually found herself spending more and more time at her computer. She has a dozen puzzle-type games, loves adventure games, and even dabbled in the Sims for a while. Sometimes we'd play an FPS together, or maybe a round of Worms: Armageddon for laughs. She'd become more proficient at computer gaming, and more comfortable trying new games.
Just under a month ago, I convinced her to give WoW a try. A couple of days and she was hooked . I don't think we've spent more than two evenings in front of the TV in the last three weeks. Some nights, we're playing together in Azeroth, others she plays by herself while I fly in EVE. Maybe in a few months, she'll be ready to graduate to the world of internet spaceships . I'm not sure whether the game would be too complicated for her tastes, but hey, she enjoys "Firefly," and was a "Star Wars" fan long before we ever met, so at least it's the right genre for her. One thing at a time I suppose

I get diner served at my computer, a backrub and then she sits on the couch and reads a comic book, taking periodic breaks to do the laundry.
It'd be even better if she played but then my shirts would still be dirty.

Yeah, mail order brides from third world countries will do almost anything for a roof over their heads.
Seriously though, I'm jealous, I very occasionally get a cup of tea made for me while playing if I've done something good but that's about it

The issue has now been partially solved though by getting her a laptop
I fear the day she plays eve will be a cold day in hell...

I had a girlfriend who I introduced to EVE.
She tried to take over my corporation and I resisted, listening to my better judgement.
She quit the corp and took a bunch of my corpmates with her.
Later I formed a new corp and declared war on her new corporation full of carebears (they joined KOS lol).
We still talk occasionally, amongst her 5 or 6 alt chars.

I was like 'Wow, she's finally getting interested...' so I answered, in the simplest terms, her questions in between discussing the usual stuff with ppl on vent.
After a bit, I finally twig that she is drawing a picture... Guess how I felt when she showed me this: - http://dl.eve-files.com/media/0802/spacespacespace.jpg

This is exactly how mine feels, plus she thinks I'm talking to a load of internet geeks/wierdo's/stalkers lol. She actually sent me to the pub (with free beer money!) last night to get me off eve for a while.
Little did she know that I met my best mate who recently started playing, and spent the evening in the pub discussing internet spaceships on her dime
I still love the look she gives me when I get the PVP shakes

Well whatever you do, don't do like a mate of mine did... baby aggro 2x in an extended downtime, now he has 2 kiddos and still plays eVe.
It was kinda fun listening to him on TS in the middle of PvP, and i quote,
- Jumps gate, drops bubble,
" Guys i have to check on my kid "
- Comes back and check if ship or pod still lives
" So did we die already "
Or i have another example,
" Sorry gtg daughter calling "
5 mins later
" Back blablabla, gtg daughter calling "
5 mins later
- multiply this for alot of times.
" So we're still alive? "
So no worries, after the initial stages of baby pvp you will start to get the hang of it. _____________________________________ I pay beer for new sig.
