If you're mining in 1.0 exclusively, don't bother with any guns at all. Just run 2 miners.

for some reason I can only put one mining laser on this thing, and second I want to move to better payouts on ore. I can make 2-3 times as much cash in a single run with Pyroxeres (however you spell it) vs. Scordite.

From what I know about higher security space, you're going to get owned should you try to wander off and mine solo in an indy. I'd consider having a friend or two fly cover in Frigates or cruisers. Then again, I've been playing for about two weeks, and I've never piloted an Indy... SO I can't speak from much experience.
You might be having power problems or CPU problems with the mining lasers, I would check and see what is causing you problems with mounting them, you *Might* just have one turret and one launcher... But I've no idea since I have no idea what type of Indy you're running.
Hope that helps.

Industrials can only use 1 miner cause they only have 1 turret slot. If you want to use more then 1 mining laser you have to use another ship.
The most common way to do it solo is mine with 1 ship and store the ore in either a secure can or a jettison can ( only lasts 1 hour ) and use a industrial to pick up the ore.
Industrials don't have a missile slot. ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

I tried mining in an indy when i first started out and soon found out it was a total waste of my time as industrials have only 1 turret hardpoint and no drone capacity. Even when you used to be able to find large plag 'roids in secure space and leave the thing running for a few hours it didn't pay.
Took a while and much pursuading from more experienced players before i chucked it in and went the "mine in a frigate and pick up in an indy", much much quicker.

start mining in 0.7 space instead. and use some sec.cans. get a cruiser or a frigate and fit a bunch of mininglasers and a launcher or 2 for protection. that will save u alot of time...only use the indy ship for getting the ore from the cans....thats my advice ..and thats the way im doin it. it works just fine

and when you mine with a frig/cruiser and haul with a indy, dont forget to set a couple of bookmarks so you drop out of warp 0.0k from can and 0.0k from station.

Indy mining in 1.0? Make an alt, train it to fit expanders and use it while you sleep in .9-1.0 space. If you get in 2 loads, it'll be worth it if you get killed. I use mine during sleep/class/drinking...
