After noticing all these secure containers littering asteroid fields. A quick fix will be to increase the cargo hold of the containers. As it stands the largest containers hold only 3,900m3 hardly Giant for any self respecting miner. They should be increased to 10,000m3 cargo still deployable from an Industrial and 3 times the size. Tus needing less containers around. A giant secure container can only hold 3 pieces of ice, about 5 minutes of work.

They're modular arn't they? Should be able to stick them together for easy management and towing

Considering a GSC is about three times the size of my Sigil in space, yet I can fit 2-3 of them inside that ship, I must agree, yes, the containers should be larger. Maybe making all containers 5 times the size or so would not only make them more useful and realistic but also would reduce the need to spam belts with them for secure mining. not if they are used consistently (i.e. more than once every month ;-) )

Ye, but that should still remove 99 out of 100 cans

If you're concerned about the size of the containers, why not just use Jetcans? I mean, they're pretty secure, right?

Jetcans should certainly be used more often.
They're one of EVE's greatest secrets.

Jet cans are not secure at all. Any wannabe pirate can hang out in high sec and flip a can looking for combat. Why they think popping a miner counts as a real kill is beyond me. The other option is stiffer penalties or longer kill rights for can flippers. Say 30 day kill right to that individual for the miner and all memebers of their corp. Or CCP can just add a larger secure can.

A larger secure container would be great. One that olds as much as a jet can can hold. This way you would be able to fill it up in like 20 mins and then haul it back using your hauler. Having to mine into your cargo hold takes way too long. It would take 2(6mins) cycles to fill ur 8000m3 cargo hold and then 3 mins to dock(warp and lag included), a min to offload the stuff and then another 3 mins to undock. Not including finding the same rocks you were using before u left.
Giant cans that live up to their name would be super.

I like to think of it as using containers increases your hold via better stacking/organizing/holding of goods.
Kind of like what they do with giant transport ships in our modern would. Instead of simply stacking up all the stuff in a giant cargo hull, everything is compacted into smaller steel containers that are then stacked.
ps. Note the "kind of" part of that observation, there are other obvious reasons for use of steel containers today, protection of goods/security/individual/stability during travel/lease of containers, etc. etc. etc.. I am simply using it as a semi-parallel reference to clarify the idea somewhat.

the last thing this game needs is a bigger sec can, it will just make ppl want to use cans more causing more lag

Actually it should reduce the lag by miners needing less cans in a system. The 3900m3 fills up too fast and is not worth the haul for 1 can thus causing miners to place a multiple amount of cans.

Why do I see some miner screaming in local "WHATS THE PASSWORD?!" as someone approaches his jetcan :)

one of the reasons that GSC are limited to 3900 m3 appears to be related to the size of POS modules...
but i really don't think it would be too hard to make a special can that only holds ore and minerals... like a "porto-silo" or something. then it can be 20,000 m3 and hold 25,000 m3 and be great for mining ops. or even stuffing it in a hauler would allow a single can instead of using 6 or 7 GSC.
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
The GSC's are fine where they are at. You have to remember that people use GSC's in haulers. You can fit quite a few in industrial/freighter ships so increasing the size of the container without increasing the space it takes up will be a problem. You'll have haulers capable of hauling 80,000 m3 in a transport ship. However if you increase the space it takes up you are also going to hurt the newb haulers that wont have the space to fit one.
they can make more varieties of cans... and still have the 3000 m3 ones for using with an iteron mark 2, etc. but when you have 12 GSC in one ship it gets ridiculous though. even a 5000 m3 that holds 6500 m3 (same ratio as GSC) would be a great convenience.
