We lost the battle of the Alamo, yes, but we put up a valiant struggle against overwhelming odds and it turned into inspiration in future battles. Thus the battle-cry "Remember the Alamo!".
BTW I hope I can listen to this podcast all the way to the end.

Good stuff so far.
The new mic was used because I was having problems with the headset which I normally use. I'm not too keen on the sound of it either, but needs must.

Gattaca is a very good movie, on another note, the same writer is also responsible for the True Man Show movie as well.
The idea of predetermined genetic selection for human children is a very interesting question. There was a TV show that was based on future lawyer court room drama and in one episode a doctor was sued for allowing the genetic possiblity of homosexuality to be passed to the child. These are examples of the obvious issues that might arise in society with access to such technology. The more sublte issue is the loss of genetic diversity that could potentially occur. If you drive through western Canada and see the fields of canola, wheat etc, all of those plants are genetic copies of each other, a disease looking at those fields would find itself quite happy if it could match itself to that code. The same would happen within the human genome, a gentle drift to sameness. This is the big reason for keeping stocks of seed of original unmodified genetic are maintained, lest we might find ourselves one day starving because we find a disease really likes that strain of wheat.
