Interesting... I also study and practice epee. Another habit of mine is reading a history of one of the Federation homeworlds... presently I'm studying those of the Jin Mei.
Funny that you mention Aria and her katana. A friend of mine also maintains a daily ritual of practice. --- This post is not the official statement of my alliance or corporation.

Edited by: Aria Jenneth on 01/03/2008 08:54:12 Ah-- a crescent's not a katana, Mr. Soter. In fact, it's probably going too far to call it a sword of any sort.
A crescent is about a third of a katana's length-- a little shorter than a wakizashi and much lighter. You can imagine a knife with a thin, curved blade and a narrow, extended handle. It can be wielded reversed or not, singly or in pairs, and is often used with a completely different second weapon. It's widely considered a woman's weapon, since its use relies less on upper body strength and more on balance, rapid pivots, and maneuvering; confronted with an armored foe, it seeks the gaps in the defense rather than trying to break through.
Weapons of martial arts are frequently descended from one form or another of agricultural implement-- flails, sickles and the like. The crescent is no exception: it's a direct descendant of the filleting knife.
I wish I could say that I still practiced with mine daily, but I find it no longer does me very much good. The crescent is part of my personal and family history, but I'm afraid its meaning for me ends there.

When I'm not in a pod I'm utterly consumed with tabletop roleplaying games, believe it or not... before I shipped out to zero-zero, myself, Faust, my cousin Orun Erajen and a few of the so-inclined office workers from Mixed Metaphor would all get together and have a bash at Shadows of Tarsus. Of course, we're on a looooong sabatical given that I haven't been around for months. Probably a good thing, too, 'cause Orun lost his Quantomancer to an Entropy Spectre (and YES, I know that Quantomancers get a roll to superimpose an alternate quantum possibility waveform in the case of death but the Entropy Spectre's Malediction ability had screwed up his dice rolls, OK?), had to roll a new character - slowed the pace a bit.
I think at some point if I move back to Empire we can pick up again, though.
I'm also an avid collector of music, and have a few albums that were on limited or special-edition release - Soundgate, for instance, they released a little three-track piece that's never really seen the light of day due to the fact that it was released just before the attack on Reschard and kind of overshadowed by it - but I've got a copy of it, and I'll let anyone listen to it if they'd like to visit my residences in Aunia or Eglennaert at some point.
Another one of my hobbies is arguing on IGS, but of course you'll all know all about that. ----- "I am prepared to meet my maker; whether my maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter." |

In my free time I enjoy playing Earth Online, a new game I found while perusing Gal Net. It attempts to recreate Old Earth to the best of our knowledge, using scientific and historical writings.
I play as a level 22 American Citizen. The gameplay is a little sparse and I have to grind at least eight hours every five days just to stay in the game. It's still in some sort of Beta Test if you will. I hope they refine it a bit more before it comes out to the mass public of EvE. Not a lot here to draw you away from our RL in space.

What'd you play in Shadows? I mean, Orun really knew how to get the last 5% out of the Quantomancer. Waveform Manipulation for the win? Seriously, Orun worked Quantomancer like I work my battleships - and when he finally got to use Non-Locality he was basically an army unto himself. But the problem was Quantomancers are really in a fix against enemies who are able to resist Decoherence abilities (like the Entropy Shade of Ill-Repute, as Faust took to calling the notorious cause of Orun's demise) because being able to use truly epic WM abilities really atrophes conventional combat skills.
Myself, I prefered to use the Shifter - not as impressive in terms of WM abilities but you got quite a lot of specialised stuff that the Quantomancer didn't get access to and there's also much more room for combat ability in there. Then again, Faust hit upon an unlikely multiclass by combining the Reality Hacker, Q-Knight and Shifter classes - base +8 to WM resist with a MINIMUM three attacks per turn due to the Q-Knight's Waveform Merge WM power tacked as passive by the Reality Hacker's Permanency ability.
Then again, the Waveform Decay caused by multiclassing had left him with some rather interesting psychoses... ----- "I am prepared to meet my maker; whether my maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter." |

I've always been quite fond of riflery; back on Chaven, I used to drive -- when I still had acess to the family hover car -- out to deserted areas, and would start picking away at any odd boulder or rock or something that seemed to prove a pleasing target. Since I lived near and odd strip of desert, there was practically never anyone around, so I didn't have to worry about accidentally shooting someone.
* Madam Dinahkarr rubs her shoulder. That sniper rifle had an amazing kick to it when you fired it. All of the bruises on my right shoulder have since healed, but there's still a bit of a throb in my shoulder from time to time.
Other than that, there are of course the natural pass times of simply listening to music, praying to God, or maybe watching a decent holoreel. The only other major hobby that leaps to mind, is that hot pink electric guitar that I sometimes still play.

I like my racing, although the station manigers arn't too happy with us racing our intercepters though the docking bays but it's worth it cos you only really feel the speed your doing when your just missing stuff at several km a second. we also found some pritty decent canyons nearby so we've been using them with an old set of Anteek XR Class VTOL Jets a friend of mine picked up from a guy in misaba a few months back.
also the new Exploder holo was a real retun for the caldari action-holos with 2 hours of barely strung together action seans cuminating in the brilliant zero-g fight where they had a chase while riding missiles! --- not a sylph diplomat, and if I was I'd get fired really ****ing quick. |

Doesn't take much pitting, they're highly competitive animals to start with. If you think you're being clever by making them fight, well... it speaks a lot of your culture.
I don't know why, but it is a lot easier to feel sympathy for slaver hounds than for the Minmatar - more so than ever, now that I've read what you wrote. Somehow, the animals are more loyal, more loving. I appreciate that, in a way. I think I'll commemorate your fine post by feeding a few of the sickly slaves from the Chorus of Angels' med-bay to my new tracking bloodline. No better way to teach them the scent of a Minmatar, really, than by eating one or two.

As I'm outside of my pod far more than most capsuleers, I seem to have no end of free-time. I've been making personal designs for small arms and collecting (and upgrading/overclocking) powered-armor for years. I make a habit of training all of my ship crews for boarding action and planet-side operations, and I enjoy all of these things in no small sense, however I believe that these are more my practices than my hobbies, though most capsuleers would consider working with ship crews a complete waste of time, so...
Those of you who know me from Summit are well aware of my hourly soups. I actually do try to make a new soup every hour of the day. Every hour a new recipe from a different part of the cluster, pilfered from every home with a data connection I can tap. Every time there's something new... and usually finding the recipe means reading about the daily life of those who make it, whether it's a slaver's brew or a Gallentean bisque.
And the rest of the list: I play piano (many variations on that word, to be sure, but I play many styles and tunings, so It's a suitable generalization) quite well, I literally never stop reading as long as I'm awake, I reserve thirty days out of the year during which I abandon all contacts and go out for 'true' exploration (Le Parkour, hiking, mountain climbing... pick a direction planet-side and never stop going for exactly twenty four hours), and I also like to consider myself a polyglot, as much for economic purposes as for a hobby. _____________
If I can never see the day when we all live freely and happily, I will most certainly see the day where I and those I love can live in such a way. |

At least I can admit my barbarity. Unfortunately you feel we cannot see through your feeble act to justify your own, by blaming it on me!
I would have thought more of a Caldari, to be honest. Aren't you people emotionally sterile? I see no profit in wasting good slaves in response to a Galnet post...

It's been so long since I played, but generally I tried to fill the roles nobody else would. Non-magical first aid, knowledge and puzzle solving, that stuff that nobody else would do. Most of my group just went for combat related classes and, without me, they'd most certainly die. Essentially, I was the team *****.
Anyway, i'm impressed with the amount of responses here! I hope to see more hobbies and idea. It's nice to see pilots can do more then shoot each other. -------------------------------------------------- My post does not represent views of my Alliance.

anyone else a fan of that particular series of gallente-manufactured 'disatsteful' holo-reels. I forget the name. the Amarr call them "an absoloute sin", but i think theyre quite groovy =] hook that up to you visual display n theres your in flight entertainment!
but ive heard stories of rather "strange" pilots who keep their own personal exotic dancers aboard many of their ships. not as passangers, but as un-willing slaves in the cargo hold. with the cargo-hold monitors tuned in to them through-out the flight. ive even heard of them being trapped in vacuum boxes in space because they 'took up too much room' in the cargo. this i do NOT condone!
sorry for lowering the tone there, but i had to get that off my chest!

Now that sounds interesting, from what I understand of what you're describing. Never come across those; is their usage much practiced or was I just in the wrong (right) places? I was taught more in the classical combat bowie styles, which is obviously significantly different, but I can't help but be curious about other methods.
