I just received an email from "EVE Online Newsletter [[email protected]]" announcing a Trinity 1.1 email.
I'm suspicious because there have been no announcements on the website about such a thing, so I dare not click any of the links in the email.

I think EvE's newsletters are "powered" by subscribermail company.
if you look at the reply-to email it'll read [email protected] and it'll both be sent and signed by mail173.subscribermail.com most likely.
that said, I've not had a newsletter today.

The links seem to ultimately point to Eve Online (e.g. http://tr.subscribermail.com/cc.cfm?sendto=http://www.eve-online.com/download/&tempid=0b6a1bbd729f4baca933f53c33025f7a&mailid=7435bcee10424978a50a87e96237120b)
Looks like a legit newsletter (i.e. general visual appearance), but the sudden announcement of "Trinity 1.1" without any corresponding announcement on the website caught me off-guard.

Just got mine too...
A Dev did comment that 1.1 wouldn't be "quite" ready in time for hte tourney, so we have been expecting it released very shortly afterwards.....
Of course the tourney just started, so they jumped the gun a bit

Well, for me it looks like CCP planned to release Trinity 1.1 earlier, but missed the plan. The newsletter was probably already written some time ago, when the initial plan was still intact.

There are some juicy bits in there... like:
Trinity Patch 1.1 will remove the need for direct fleet invites by offering an "open fleet" option. Pilots will be able to join open fleets within their alliance or corporation at the push of a button.

that feature would rock if it also spanned multiple alliances... maybe use standings instead? like only blues can join?
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
what confuses me a bit: you seem to have to download the full packaged client again (1.2 gig on enhanced). if you do that, you get version 4.10.49635. but there seems not to be a working update patch under 'patches' -> the installer greets me with the 1.03 update from february 20th. but when starting eve, i seem to already have 49635.
You seem to be missing the fact that it's not out yet - this is just the mail saying it's coming soon(tm). And you won't (shouldn't) have to download the client again, there is an autopatcher. __________________
The mail made it sound as if the patch had been deployed... having not logged in for two days I actually thought that was a case.
But, no patch. I looked around for some patch notes and couldn't find those either.. isn't there a list of upcoming changes somewhere?
It's not fake, i've compared it with the past 4 or 5 newsletters and the mail is coming from the same subscribermail.com email server IP addresses.
Many companies use third party services to distribute mass emails, as a matter of fact I don't think CCP have their own email servers to do this from anyway, an MX record check for both eve-online.com and ccpgames.com both point to FRONTBRIDGE.COM which is Microsoft's hosted exchange service!
I just think it's deployment has been a bit mis-timed!
Subscribermail is a large mailing company basically, since most companies won't have the server capacity to blast a mail to that many adresses you hire someone like them, and since they're hosting the mail and linking that through to CCPs EVE page. All the % marks followed by numbers and letters are simply codes for various things like / : . etc Nothing scary. Its all linking to EVE-O btw.
Where's the love for assault ships. It was mentioned in the Q/A as "boost patch" material.
Also, some manner of closure is needed for amarr recon pilots. Either a declaration that they are fine, get used to it, or a move to help where ailing(extend this to the gallente ones if possible).
