Merlin is not really good for pvp. Even though it has an extra mid slot which you could use for a ab it still isn't fast enough and by fitting 1xmwd, 1xab and 2x150mm rails you don't have grid to fit anything else.
Caldari still have the kestrel which is somewhat useable but is slow and heavy (heaviest frigate 1,700,000kg) but is still preferred by many as it has most missile hardpoints.
Although some frigates *cough* minmatar *cough* are extremely useful in battle then other frigs are far behind and need to be balanced. __________ Capacitor research |

only thing that sucks is wrecking shots :)
I agree 100%

Edited by: Winterblink on 04/05/2004 15:48:49 Any opinions on the Maulus as a tackler? I've been experimenting with it lately and it can get in pretty fast and do its job well. Crap for offence, but then that's not really the Maulus' thing to begin with.
Edit: Oh, Nightfang: AWESOME guide, man.

Didnt play much recently, so i didnt check, but i do remember that a dev stated start of april the wrecking hit issue would get fixed with the next patch (fix: Only check for wrecking hit if the shot is already a hit). Should i have interpreted this as the usual soon(tm), or is it in?

Glad to hear the Incursus is getting beefed up... I'm getting Minmatar frigate envy. Do you have any specifics?

Hi, a real dummy here asking something... What about a heavy drone in an Imicus, valid tactic or not?

Nice post.
Been messing with set-ups on my Crow alot lately.
Gotta keep practicing cos Moas still cause me harm.
I have stayed off the Cruise for a while (incase frigates get them nerfed). But have them in case of real trouble.
I am a recovering Cruise addict and must be careful.

LOL a heavy drone in it? That's an awesome idea!!! It might not be great for PvP but it should would be quite a surprise. :)

You'd be surprised, actually. The maulus is a fairly versatile ship and the setup I have it in is best suited for fleet combat rather than solo engagement. Although you get a bonus to hybrids with the maulus, the extra cap required by the 150mm rail makes me go for the 280mm scouts instead. Fitted with an aux core and a tracking enhancer II in the lows, two phased muon sensor disruptors and an MWD in the meds it is a fairly good frigate. I don't really worry much about out-running cruise missiles because the enemy's sensors are usually reduced by 75% or so, and there is usually a squad of close-range blasterhumpers to soak up the damage between me and the target(s)
That said, I get about 60-80 damage on average with proton ammunition at 25km range. On occasion I will use phased plasma at 15km or less and routinely score 80-120 per shot. The firing rate is indeed low, but the ship performs fairly well as a sensor damper boat with some long-range softening capabilities.
The 150m3 drone bay doesn't hurt either (picture a cloud of hammerheads unleashed by 10 assorted gallente frigates..) chewing away at a cruiser or a BS.

Frigates will only get more useful if CCP decides to bring the rest of the elite frigates in--Bombers, Gunships, Deep Space Miners, Special Ops ships.
That if they bring them in, as I am afraid that CCP may have put these ships on a lower priority now compared to other features.
MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD TO HELP GET THE NEW SHIPS IN.
Elite frigs will probably be good until Elite Cruisers come in.
Interceptors are only just the tip of the iceberg to realize the full frigate potential.

Great post NightFang. And it was very useful for a while, but with the upcoming changes to missiles etc. will you be doing an update?

Yeah, I will be doing a 2.0 as soon as I get an understanding of how the upcoming changes work in reality
