I like D180s because I'm a cheapskate. Objectively, 220s are somewhat better, and should fit without any issues. Sig removed, inappropriate link. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

It boils down to what you prefer imho.
180s have the best tracking, but eat more ammo than 220s or 425s and have less damage output. 425s and 220s on some setups will let you run into grid problems when using projectile rigs too.
Ammo consumption can be a problem really when you also have to carry cap charges and missiles and can hardly afford to put more than 2k rounds in your hold.
I generally go for the middle ground and use 220s, damage output is better than 180s and tracking is still good enough.

For fitting that huge buffer dual 1600mm RRT buffer? Sure, marginally worse dps than 220s, better tracking, and far worse on the ammo, no real reason not to use them, espescially if you're trying something grid hungry like a massive armor tank or fitting projectile rigs with low skills or something...
There's nothing wrong with d180s but for ammunition consumption.

they eat too much ammo but are great against small stuff.
i personally use 425mm on my cane whit 2 heavy launchers... so far i ahvent been disapointed :) ---------------------------------- This is Me, fighting stupidity one post at a time. PS: There are no computer BUGs, there is stuff called "Random Features"

If you can't fit 220's then theres no reason not to; I'm not really sure why this is a question.
I use them on my dual 1600mm plate cane. Piddly dps (about 280 or 330 depending on how I feel) but plenty of hp.

Just NO on Hurricane for the 180 and 220. Use 425mm t2. Can be fitted, can work against smaller ships, have quite good tracking and the dmg is worth. Plus, in most systems, are cheaper than 220-s.

The tracking of 425s is quite bad, particularly with Barrage M loaded. I hope you are not one of those people who doesn't know how to calculate DPS, because you make it sound like 425s have a big advantage over 220s, which they do not - the difference is about 5%.
Not negligible (will probably translate to 15-20 theorethical DPS extra or so), but nothing exceptional, and 220s really do work against smaller stuff or for drone killing or for high-speed combat (like, shooting nano-HACs) much better.
Imo, 220s offer a optimal mix of firepower and tracking/etc, which is the reason they're relatively pricey. In most normal situations (meaning, if you're not trying to shoot ceptors or something), 220s will outdamage 180s by a noticeable margin. I think it's about 5% again, roughly.
D180s shine for shooting faster/smaller things, but versus larger targets they do preform worse.
I find the medium AC tiers to be very balanced; the differencees aren't very severe, the advantages of downsizing/upsizing aren't very severe either, so it's really a question of fine-tuning your setup.
Personally, I use D180s a lot, merely because I got a truckload of them for 550K per piece. Price is a factor when maximising cost-efficency is mandatory, and for a pirate, it is.

I have found overall that 220's work the best. The damage is only slightly worse than 425's but with superior tracking. Couple this with an increase in ammo usage dropping to D180's and IMHO 220's offer the best option. -----------------------------------------------

I really think the 220mm are very good. The damage lost to 425mm is only around 5-7% from what I remember and the superior tracking will help you much more than this little damage from the 425mm. Another thing is the ammo consumption... If you're trying to have lower ammo costs, go for 425mm, the slower ROF uses less ammo.
Dual 180mm are good if you are either fast yourself or shooting fast targets. If you're ticky about ammo costs, then you don't want them. The tracking is really good on the dual 180mm. The bad part of dual 180mm is the damage is significantly lower (but can't remeber by how much, but you'll see if you play with EFT, or just run some damage modifier/ROF for every autocannons, and you'll know the ratio between the guns. -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

I much prefer the 425mm, can still hit a ceptor rather easily even without a web, gives you much more punch in the first reload than 220's will over the same time period. If the ceptor gets close to avoid your guns, web and shoot or drone it to death. Occassus Republica <3 |
