Solo you need range control and agility to avoid getting blobbed. This means you have to sacrifice tank. But 10k more EHP won't help much if you get blobbed, agility and range control on the other side helps alot.
In fleets more EHP are usefull when primaried. It helps to warp out or to receive RR. But since a Drake won't be primary that often you could just fit additional ewar in some med slots. |

Podla Drake, sits at range hammering enemy with missile volleys. Double web slows frigates down enough that they die fast, and allows you to dictate range. 2nd web can also be changed for different ewar for different situations. Good for fighting outnumbered. Podla drake is very good solo. A complete opposite fit of this is brick HAM drake.
Low: Damage control Reactor control 2 x BCU
Mid: MWD Scram 2 x extenders 2 x invuls
High: 7 x HAM Small neut
You cant fit small neut without AWU V though.
Fly it like a blaster boat and its a beast with ehp sitting at 100k. |

Ditch the resist Bonus for Range and give it an RoF Bonus if the changes go through.
Here is the new Drake. I removed the Battlecruiser Resist Bonus from EFT to get a peak at the Tank and have been making a few practice fits for it.
[Drake, New Drake Heavy Missile] [Drake, New Setup 1 copy 1 import 1] Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Co-Processor II Damage Control II

Taking changes into account this fit has 80616 EHP and can hit with selectable Damage Types.
[Drake, New Drake HAM] Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Reactor Control Unit II Damage Control II
Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II Invulnerability Field II Experimental 10MN MicroWarpdrive Warp Disruptor II Target Painter II

Medium Core Defence Field Extender I Medium Core Defence Field Extender I Medium Core Defence Field Extender I
Warrior II x5
This one has 66k EHP and hits to 30km with HAM Damage.
I would say that PvP wise both Fleet or Small Gang the change doesn't really change all that much. The ship will still be heavily used but hopefully a little less then before. I can get her to 90K EHP without tackle and 80k with. For more Damage and more Damage Types at max lock Range that will keep the Drake in service. |

widespread use....
I flew these before drake train during pre-dominion. There were no mobs with pitchforks calling for nerf. Quite the contrary....you could be in certain crews and be asked if you could fly anything better lol. Why I x-trained away....one day I jsut got tired of that question. then months later it just became an "op" beast that needed to be put down. With no nerf or buff applied to it or anyother bc lol. Just some peeps said lets see what happens when we fly these in fleets of 50-100.
the change won't change much imo. It should actually fix the drake a little. I never liked its rof so if boosted its a good thing. Resists....meh. If ganked by enough people, or the right number of certain ships like say muninn gangs, drake still goes down like any other ship. ROF is something you can'[t really fix in pvp. Assuming a pdu and dcu....less room to fit BCU's. Not much room for rigs to fix it either with the usual pvp rigs run. I don't mind this change if it happens tbh....increases chance of getting moar damage on target. |

If it's really ROF and Speed (impact or travel?) Drakes can loose 20K EHP instead of 10 ! Those are already omnipresent in pvp but after changes if they're not done correctly this BC will became a pure murderer and an obvious preferred choice in fleets/gangs (hello I can sit tank you and spit 100% dmg from----------------------------------------------------->here?) |

The Painter instead of a Web is for after the changes that will allow it to hit to 30km and 45km LR Ammo. Basically a gang ship in which if you need a web you have tacklers for that but your main job is Damage at Range.

I did, and I don't buy it for a second. If you're actually able to stay at range in the fashion that you suggest, you're still better off with HMLs. Alternatively, you're flying it like a nano-Drake, whereupon you'll need the web - and arguably a second (PODLA) - to deal with the frigates that will inevitably tackle you. |

Not true at all. HAM's with a Painter do much more DPS and hit Painted Cruiser and Battlecruiser sized targets just fine. You would be foolish to give up that Damage since most small gang fights do not happen past 45km.

Sure if you are flying a Nano Drake but this fit is not a Nano Drake.
30km HAM Drake with a Painter will work fine in most small gang situations. |

I don't doubt that you'd get good results out of it, a 30-km HAM Drake with full damage selectability will be formidable. But I strongly suspect that in gang environments where you're not worried about getting tackled by frigates (do these exist meaningfully?), the greater flexibility and range of a 100 km HML Drake would make a better platform for mounting the painter on. You have the range to apply DPS to targets such as ECM boats, recons and logistics, a superior range tank and have a much larger volume to manoeuvre in. |

Their are many reasons to choose a Painter with Heavies over HAM's in many situation but the reverse is true.

These Ships tend to pop up less in smaller gang situations. While it is good to be able to counter them it comes down to Damage vs Countering Support. Many fights do not happen with enough support on the field to give up the extra Damage.
Really it is a personal choice.
