Anyone who reads the forums for more than a few minutes realizes the sorry state they are in in terms of content vs flaming/trolling. I was playing around with a few ideas on how things might be changed for the better. ( by better I mean being able to control what I read so my eyes don't bleed every time I waste a small part of my life reading someones ignorance )
I suppose the simplest way from a users point of view would be to add a block button on the forums next to the posters name. Once blocked, the viewer would not see anymore posts from that person. I believe this has been recommended before.
A second, more complex way, could be in the form of the person starting the topic having the ability to moderate replies in their thread. Something like a hide feature that the person could click next to the offending posters name that would hide the posters text to all readers of the topic, but have a link that would allow the reader of the topic to click and read the offending post if they really wanted to.
This second way would give a bit more control to original topic starter and allow that person to keep things on topic and cut down on the flamefests.
Of course combining both the first and second way would give even better control of what a person reads on the forums.
Anyone else have some good ideas?

Might be interesting to have one of those rate posts up/down things so a response that goes into the negative gets minimized. Probably couldn't do that with the original post, I don't know. But that would at least give those forum lurkers who don't post much a chance to have a "voice" so to speak. Let the community mod itself somewhat. Would probably cut down on how much forum mods would have to do.
I wouldn't go for a "let the OP mod his own thread" scheme. That would just get abused by the OP silencing anyone that didn't agree with them.
Block poster would be cool. Supposedly there's a fire fox plugin or something that already does that. Easy enough to just ignore certain ppl and just scroll em away. At least that's what I do.

Slashdot-like "Karma" system would work best here, to be honest. Everybody gets some mod points at more or less random intervals, posts get rated up/down, posters that get exceedingly bad marks on posts get their starting post value decreased, posters that get usually good marks have their starting post value increased. Of course, you can always "filter out" posts by post "value" as a reader.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Good one.
Oh? You are actually serious about it? You want forums up/down modded by a legion of angry bees? Or by the omnipresent amarr winers? Brave. Very brave. Foolishly brave actually.
