Zealot for killing ratting BS who fit neuts and for sniping small **** at 0.0 camps. Sac for everything else.

Yep. Its a bit hard to find my old zealot vids, but I will put them up when I do. Basically mongol horse archer tactics. Mongols Horse arches can move around, picking off any targets of danger to your fleet. Also add transversal to your overview so you can see which MWDing cepter you can instapop.
Setups were all simple. beams, Mwd, rest heatsink.tracking enhancers and a rep or plate. My setup was all faction, but the key to note is that setup came secondary. It was 'The tactic' that kept it alive. The fact that people just are not intrested in attacking a zealot ships 80km away by themselves in a large fleet fight. Most people are foused in close range or even think that the zealot is pulse and is ineffective anyway.
You should never be in close range combat, since your job is to machine gun down enemy support. Your job is to be 100% effective for duration of the fight, you want to be the guy covering your long range BS's and your close support pilots. You are basically the horse archer, not the swordsman, so I think that kind of explain a bit about how to fly one. You are not easy for the enemy to kill, a wate of time for enemy battleships to focus upon (since they will be attacking your battleships) and most closerange support dont see a point to fly long distances out of the way to get to you.
In short, your job is to stop enemy support fom causing chaos on your battleships. Close range ships will just miss some saber MWDing past them. You wont, due to your positioning.
If this is not something you want to do, then other ships are better at conventional roles. For example, if you like nano stuff or small gang stuff, Sacri is better. If you like the charge in and attack with lasers, the harbringer is a stronger and toughter ship. If the game had cost effective 40-50km scramblers, then yeah, pulse zealot would have a role of its own. But till then, there are better options avalable.
From time to time, some random might decided to solo run to take you on, which is why co-ordinating with a chat other a 2-3 anti-support snipers. Co-ordinating in advance is important so you can all to cover each other. You can also mwd away form them to lower transversal and thus instapop them.
Again, most of the stuff you will learn from experience, but thats the basic heads up. Again, I am well known for fruity or even crazy ship setups, so what works very well for me might not work for you. --

i personally fly my zealot as both a close range dps machine and a long range sniper, and have found it to be severely underestimated by opponents who are choosing whether to shoot at 3/4 hurricanes, or the freak that flies amarr

wow - once again guys, thanx for the responses and the input - its all very useful to me.
Special thanx to Lord and Lyria though, great debate you two and I learnt a lot from it
The upshot of it is that for the time being I am going to try out the beam sniper Zealot and see how I go. I may try the pulse version a bit later and probably the Sacrilege, but apart from a few skirmishes, this is my first serious attempt at 0.0 pvp and I think the sniper version gives me a better chance of bugging out if (or rather when) I get things wrong

Great analogy Lord and as a Wargamer can appreciate the tactic, although I'll probably end up playing a Longbow man - sitting there shooting arrows till I realise too late that I'm about to get ridden me down Pity you canĘt deploy stakes in space is what I say. |

Originally by: Barliman Butterbur Guys - looking for some general advice about the Amarr HACs.
I got my skills up to be able to fly one about 2 weeks ago and promptly brought meself a Zealot. Not been in the game much lately due to work commitments but the time I've had I've spent trying to get a good set-up for the Zealot - and I canĘt find one that works for the life of me. I have checked the ship set-up index but that seems a bit out dated althogh there are some good ideas in it.
I have 4 tech 2 pulses on it and thatĘs about all I seem to keep on as I continue to put stuff on and take it off, so my question is - would the Sacrilege be a better investment?
Now, I now that the Zealot is going to be getting an extra turret sometime soon, but will that make a difference?
I do have some missile skills as I used to play with a Phantasm, but what I originally was looking for was a ship to get in close and dirty - hence the Zealot and the pulses.
Any thoughts would be welcome.
imho it depends on what u want, i dont like nano ships 2 much but a nano zealot seems 2 be the new "nano hac 2 fly atm" so use a zealot for nano/mini sniping (HP 2's with scorch can hit 30-40km)
as for the sac i love armor tanking close up missle ships so uf u want flexibilty, use a sac but if u want 2 choose ur targets and pick battles go zealot, allthough a nano sac is awsome, --> missles dont have tracking :)
personlly i wud love gelente 2 have armo tnaking missle ships but that said i like mwd'blaster and drone boats so dont move em..... :)
