I tried Pirates of the burning sea, it was ok until evemon told me a skill was complete, so i logged back into eve then spent the rest of the day playing it.
The next day im back in PotBS and then i see a ship class called Myrmidon, so i fire up eve and fly my myrmi around for the next few hrs.
So the day after the day after the next day, i am in PotBS again and im buying something from the market, or trying to, then i realize it sucks and eve just does it so much better so i quit.
Moral of this story? ... beef stroganoff is tasty.

*Ahem*
There is no game in the world where you can jump into a system with 500 people in it and not experience lag. Not in single player and certainly not in MMOs. If you don't like lag then don't participate in massive fleet battles. It's like sticking your hand into the fireplace then complaining about how fire is hot.
Three years of EVE, I've never had a problem with lag.

I've registered with Vendetta Online, it's a much smaller game but more like Elite and it seems to have a much better technical design (it uses Erlang for the server, so it's really easy to make code distributed and scaleable).
EVE Online: a cold, cruel world where (RL-)rich people replace their losses with GTCs sold to poor students who need to farm ISK to afford their play time ...

When the day arrives, that a game developer takes a "leap of faith" and decides to design a game that is radically innovative and falls far outside the box...
Then and only then will I leave EVE.
5 years and 4 MMO's later I have come to learn that the public is going to be sold without fail a nearly identical bill of goods and a nearly identical set of problems.
No matter the genre of the game or the developer.
CCP does a better job than any of my prior experiences. I have learned the UTTER FOLLY of chasing carrots and falling for shiny new toys.
It will take an entirely new approach to this game genre to get this gamer to try out anymore "new" bells and whistles.
Until then...make mine EVE
Cheers

I love EvE so please spend some cash on reducing lag.
I'll not quit so everyone elses lag eases.
don 't work. CPUs are nto gettign faster per core as for a llong time already (or barely gettign faster) Intel and MAD went for the multi core approach.
Rpoblem on usign that for eev. Eve is in python, python sux beyond recognition when trying to scale things up in multiple processors.
The decision on usign python now costs dearly.
thats a double /signed !!

This, tbh. We ***** and whine and cry about this problem or that technical failing. But let's be honest: nothing else comes close. Not even close.
The only game I have even considered playing since I started EvE is Sins Of A Solar Empire.

only game in town, thats the problem. if there were other games people could and have similar game experiences, this game wouldn't survive. THe game is unplayable with far fewer numbers than people realize. And to sum up the problems
1. No realistic compensation and B.S responses from GM's regarding petitions when server falls on its face. Its the server stupid, nothing else
2. No recognition of failed game play mechanics. The client cant handle the number of pilots the blobs can get? Well then change the game mechanics to at least MINIMIZE lag and not create situations where hundreds of players are locked out, cannot operate their ships, and have wasted their free time in a hopeless pit of packet loss. Make it so that large fleets are not necessary, not preferred, and deterimental to the common good of the alliance as a whole. Have the new star in the galaxy randomly nuke groupings of pilots who travel together, DO SOMETHING! Dont just sit there and accept the concept that "if it can be done by 10 it can be done faster by 100" Make a significant change come up with something that actually makes playing fun again.
3. Stop addressing useless graphical crap that gets turned off anyway. Make it a CCP directive that dev's are acting proactive to help carry the current capacity of pilots or address each new addition with respect to increased server demand... steam anyone?
its ridiculous that in the middle of the EVeTV that a developer was talking about all kinds of new turret and module effects when nobody can see them zoomed all the way out and turned off to begin with...
oh BTW tarmac your point, was just that, pointless, its time the player base did somethin about this and if it has to come to more radical options then organization might be in order....

Edited by: Splagada on 05/03/2008 00:36:49 filing a petition each time is the ONLY way to get the "higher ups", those who dont play the game, to get a real feel of the "customers" base
i work in some kind of company, and only way to get people to work is when customers _really_ complain. one complaint is ignored, but when many come on same subject, here you got the big bucks unlocked to fix the issue
save kittens, petition ------

Yes yes yes.
Your post is like some guy complaining that his supermodel one-of-identical-triplets GF never cleans up and insists on watching Friends. Sure that **** ****es you off, but what are you gonna do?
That's right: you're going to pick up and ask her to invite her sisters over for tequila shooters, that's what you're going to do.

What annoys me the most is that it is not only the blob warfare alliance guys who are feeling the lag these days. We had 2/3 of our gang in Syndicate crashing because of what apparently was going on in Mercenary Coalition space.
So it's not only when there is 500 people in a system, and it is not just about "doing something else".

Edited by: Dingi223 on 05/03/2008 00:59:20 I'm taking a close look at Jumpgate Evolution and Infinity (although that is far into the future). While EVE is a great game, it has some teething problems and it doesn't quite suit my style.
Right now it's the best MMO for me, but that's only because there are no other strong space MMOs out there that I have found to date. The biggest element that doesn't work for me is that it isn't a twitch based flying game like Elite and Frontier, which is what I was brought up on, and really keen to get back into. In the end EVE is the worlds biggest spreadsheet, and you can't do much besides run the numbers and min/max the heck out of the game. And, even if you do become a better pilot 'technically', people just throw blobs at you and everything goes out the window.

Infinite looks like a great game, and more space-like than EVE. Will it lag like EVE? who knows, but if they make what they say on features maybe it will kill EVE or make it lose many customers. On my end if my computer supports it and it doesnt lag i will go there. On the other hand if CCP fix the lag here, who knows maybe i stay here, time will show. But yes im looking for an alternative to EVE.

Lag can occur in the real world as well. Lag in the real world, unlike a video game, can and has had LETHAL results.
I'm sure many European and Latin American players can remember years ago when the "maximum occupancy" laws as applied to Football stadiums were overlooked and ignored. People got crushed to death.
Less than 10 years ago in the U.S. a nightclub hosting a popular band caught fire and due in part to a violation of the maximum occupancy laws 90+ people lost their lives.
Strictly enforced laws protect the public against "lag" in the real world. Unfortunatly there are no such laws enforced in game worlds.
Greed and poor oversight on the part of developers continues to allow the "joint to be packed far beyond capacity" Thank God that the only thing you lose is an internet spaceship.
The next time you visit your favorite nightclub and you look upon the "doorman" remember his primary job is to prevent lag.
Cheers

Vympel with the difference that in real world they can stop me from entering the club and as a result i wont pay. But here i pay in advance and as everyone, i expect to play the game. Will getting stopped to enter a system result in a money refund? then we can discuss.

Originally by: Voltas Stormtide The lag in 0.0 has got to epidemic proportions and I know in BWF recently things have ground to a standstill. I love eve and have done so fo almost 2 years, but things are getting ridiculous. I feel the only reason a lot of us stick with this is that there is no alternative. I think we as the player base need to enforce upon CCP how frustrated we are with the situation. I have a couple of suggestions:
1) Sign this petition 2) File a bug report each time you are hampered by lag
Signed. lag in a big battles is always awful and today we had a cherry on top of that too..

Believe it or not,I'm on your side in this matter. I am not fanboy cheerleading for CCP.
If a concert is overbooked by the promoter and you have tickets to said concert...are you going to receive a refund because you are upset that there are 5,000 extra people with standing room only obstructing your view from your seat? From personal experience NO you will not. Unless of course you are willing to take it to court and spend even more money...and then maybe.
You are already inside the concert stadium and the music is playing. More and more people are being allowed to "crash" the event. You have only two viable options...put up with it...or get up and leave.
It is unjust and it is unfair....such is the fruits of greed.
