The federal government only officially adopted it several years ago...but it is law.

Bill number or it didn't happen.
I'll give you a start: the US Senate passed S.1335 in 2007, which if passed by the House of Representatives in its current form would repeal federal bilingual support for voting, as well as require that all federal business be done in English. So far as I know it hasn't passed the House in any form, which means it is not law.
I agree with those who say it's wrong to demand or even request that all EVE public channels be in English. The international flavour of discussions is a positive benefit to the community, and their subscriptions are a substantial benefit to CCP and thus indirectly to English-speakers. In any case, CCP has given you a useful tool: if you don't like it you can block them.

its wrong to demand any public channel in an MMO to be english only as they are all pretty much world spanning. however most people in games will speak english in publics for much the same reason its used in trade and air traffic control because it is more universal.

My understanding has been that not even half of the player base is from North America, so you really should expect to hear languages other than English in the game. And you should be grateful that others are speaking English when they do.
Ummm? last time I checked The United Kingdom,Australia and New Zealand are English speaking countries...
Wait one min..consulting my globe..
Yep!...not one of those places are in North America. And FYI...more than HALF of the playerbase is comprised of people who live in English speaking countries.
Please..think before you speak...whatever the language.
Cheers
only in your dreams. I coudl bet not even 1/3 are native english speakers. The most spoken language in europe is german, then french and Europe has more players than US in eve. Also all south america that has TONS of players also do not sepak english all Ex Soviet Union Countries, which also have TONS of players.
I play this game for quite a few years, and as a genral rule of thumb less , quite less than 1/3 of people I met are english speakers.
Are you including the United Kingdom in your 2/3 European player majority? From here it doesn't appear that you are.
And if you are....
Are you contending that German and French are the languages of majority spoken in the British Isles.

Until I see it in black and white I'm going to continue to say let them speak and beat down those that yell at them for trying to stop them.
Its bad enough this game is very daunting and extrodinarly harsh, how many new players you think know about the international channels? If they speak in thier language it usually is a new player asking for help on finding other players that speak his language to help them out in the game.
And last I checked there are 10 different language settings in eve, I should probably slap one on and see if aura's voice changes too to satisfy my curiosity. :P
The only non-english language I would make the effort on trying to censor is the isk selling alts and thier chinese characters (harigana i belive) and very broken english, isk selling in any language is bad m'kay?

Whatever language you choose is fine, unless you're spamming mindless crap.
Not saying I won't say something like "babelfish is your friend" but it's just joking around and I hope it comes across that way. That or I'll use my limited amount of spanish or tagalog to say something equally indecipherable (for them) back to the person
Yes, I'm a tool... now leave me alone. Magandang gabi! Ingat ka! (Good night, take care) ------------

Just closemindet people DEMAND a spezific language from other on a world wide platform. And if they do, they better start to learn Chines or Japanes
English is a commonly spoken language in the western world but that's it. South America is mostly spanish I belive, eastern europe mostly russian, india has a very largh population too and arabic is the language at africa.
Most surpising for me: most times it's an US-player that "demands" english ... even if it isn't even english what they use but uslengish or somethink like that *g*. But that's a real US guy ... same as Bush they ever try to force other to join there way even if it is the false one .
Or it's just an idiot who trys to make trubble .

Wow, you somehow blamed George Bush for people asking for English to be spoken in EVE public channels....
Now THAT takes some talent.
Also, what's the point in having a worldwide platform is no one can understand each other?

I think Bush-bashing has become a sport for some people. I'll be glad when he's out of office if for no other reason than because (hopefully) the constant whining will stop, because it's getting old.
