In about 10 days, the price of a raven has gone from 93 mil (set by me) to about 89, crossing into the 88's today probably. For this, I would like to thank:
The guy who had 20 ravens, put them up for sale, and whose wallet is set only to even 100k increments. Unfortunately, when you undercut everyone by 100k, you forgot to actually check up on your orders more than once every 10 hours. As a result, you'd get undercut, and then of course due to your wallet restrictions would have to undercut by another even 100k. I congratulate you for single-handedly lowering the price by over a mil last friday, solely on your 100k undercuts.
The guy who only sells in xx,xxx,x86.00 isk increments. No matter what the price above you, you always went to the next 86 increment. For that I congratulate you, more than once I set my prices at what I thought was the lowest only to find that I had messed up one of the many digits due to the 86.00 confusion. Touche sir, touche.
To everyone else who plays the game reasonably and undercuts by 1 isk or pennies, thank you for trying. I got the market up to 93 mil a couple weeks ago when I noticed I was the only seller on the market, and that was fun. But alas, 100k guy had it in for us (and the poor guy still hasn't sold his batch of 20, whereas I've probably sold 60 in that same span).
In conclusion, game on, and may the "but my wallet only goes to 100k" (spinal tap reference!) guy never produce or sell another raven on the market again.
That is all.

I severly disagree, and would prefer ravens to drop even further.
Also, will be buying them in Rens now :)
Another 10m lower and I'll be getting paid to suicide!

All I hear is
whine, whine, whine, ............ you screwed my market place.......... my greed isn't working ........ cry, cry, cry.
If you moved the market up, you clearly made it profitable for someone else to undercut you. Good luck trying to build a Raven selling cartel! What might not be good profit to you, may be for someone else.
The marketplace doesn't hear you when you cry because you cant sell your items at your favorite price.

Dear sir, greed is what makes eve go round.
I'm still profiting, but I'm making 4m less than I was 10 days ago. It adds up.
And I'm being SUPER SERIAL! I AM TEH ANGRY! FURIOUS! GARR!!11elevenoneone

People like you are the reason I can occasionaly motivate myself to play the undercutting game.
If I'm given a choice between spending all day tweaking my orders 1 isk at a time to squeeze out every last drop of profit or systematically destroying the margins on an item, happy in the knowledge that the guy on the other end of the internet who thinks he's God's gift to trading is getting frustrated by it, I'll take the second option every time

if these guys are the only ones that sell ravens in Rens, how about you talk with them and reach an agreement on how many ravens each of you to sell without competing and lowering the price. Don't you think that would me more profitable for all of you?
Maybe the 3 of you would be interested in managing the raven production as a shared fund. Talk to the *******.

We don't care that you are making less money. In fact, you've probably made it more likely that other people will come there and drastically undercut you just for kicks now.

I may be clueless, but if he was not able to sell his 20 Ravens at a 4 million isk undercut, what makes you think you could have sold 60 at or above that cost? Sounds like Ravens aren't selling in Rens currently?

It appears that the '100k' guy isnt putting big enough discounts on his ravens, if you keep undercutting him and selling yours, and his are not selling.
I guess he would be better off knocking a million off every 10 hours, instead of just 100k.

notdiscostu,
The absolute worst thing you can do to your business in this situation is to come on the market forums and whine about it. Your opponent doesn't care that he is hurting your profit, but he certainly does care that he is hurting you.
The next worst thing you can do is contact the guy - so I would ignore that advice above.
Stay in the shadows - plan your strategy to deal with the changing situation, and pull out and move on to a less competative system if that's the only way for your business to prosper.
There are poeple in here that will eat players like you for breakfast, and quite frankly they are plump enough on noobie fodder already.
Good luck in your market PVP.

Time to come crash the market then. How about, say, 1.5M ISK undercut, keyed to whenever my own is undercut? I'm also very sure someone with deep pockets and an urge to spite you can and will do that.

Edited by: Zoe Midoru on 08/03/2008 00:19:22 I started trading about a week ago and am still struggling with a few things (mostly, how to figure out exactly how much I've made when I keep plowing my profits back into inventory and buy orders). But there are two statements made on these forums that I've found critical to what success I've had.
Sun Win - 'When you find a huge discrepancy between buy and sell orders (and you will) this means that someone is making insane profits at the expense of both the people selling to that person and the people buying from that person. As a trader, it is practically your duty to close that gap and bring the market to balance. The way you do this is simple: Place a buy order that is noticeably higher than the highest buy order and then when you have a bunch of the item, sell it for noticeably lower than the lowest sell order. This will have the effect of narrowing the gap (reducing profits) but you will be rewarded by being the one who buys and sells the most orders. If all goes smoothly, you will soon find yourself with a pair of open buy and sell orders with some percentage profit (15%-50% is a good amount - remember to subtract the broker fees and taxes!) between them. As your buy order gets used up, you will place a new one and the same for your sell order.'
Shadarle - 'This is a simple situation. If someone updates 23/7 they should do .01 updates. I do not update often, usually twice a day maybe three times. If I try to compete on the same terms with .01 undercutters I will lose out to them. So I change the game. I drive the margins down to the point they don't want to stay in any more.
I'd rather have 100% of 5% than 0% of 20% margins. And if they stay in it then I have the satisfaction of knowing they are making 5% instead of 20%. It's a zero-sum game. Either I get money or my competitors do. If I don't get money I want my competitor to get a the least amount of money as possible.'
The two most critical lessons I've found getting into EVE trading, and both seem relevant to your problem. You should think on that.

Heh, I do wonder why you'd post such a rant to your competitors, doing so just points out a good place to make profit at your expense. Not to mention most traders will almost certainly enjoy the taste of your tears, your salty salty tears, so someone will almost certainly go to Rens and crash your market now that it is known that you get frustrated easily. :P

I'm cursed with one of those almost crappy T2 item BPO's and I tried to sell them in one of the major gallente tradehubs. Some reseller or another BPO owner soon found my monopoly market and my profits started getting down. It finally was in point where I made only 30% of profit instead of 60% so I got my stuff out of there and moved to Jita. Somehow people there pays almost twice as much as in gallente space!

Since Jita is major tradehub the odds of striking a good deal or a bad one vary a lot in a short period of time. Look for price spikes on Ravens when they are already at their lowest price. Then producers start switching to other ships and the supply goes down rapidly. Perfect time for a sale at your own price.
