3 x Nightmares:
High Slots: Close-range, high DPS or high alpha strike guns and remote armor reps Mids: 2 x Sensor Boosters, 2 x ECCM, Preferred electronic warfare or cap mods Lows: 5 active/passive hardeners based on preference
Drones: 5 x Medium Armor Repair, 5 x Light ECM or 5x Light Neutralizer Drones
Sensor Boosters and ECCM should keep make it very difficult for e-war to have much of an effect and it should tank well while putting out a very impressive alpha strike and DPS, with added tank and e-war options for the drones. Its biggest problem might be drones (if no smartbombs are fitted) and enemy cap warfare.
Of course, I'm a total carebear and have never owned or flown a Nightmare, so feel free to rip my setup to pieces. ---------------- Tarminic - 33 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.79 |

Tell ya what, save up and give it a go next tourney...

Damn, I guess that'll do it every time!
In all honesty m8, I dunno, can neither fly (I don't think) nor (certainly) afford one... And if I even had one, I would probably just look at it in my hangar now and again. Faction ships don't float my boat tbh...

I just spent fifteen minutes trying to make a three-Nightmare setup the least bit viable.
I want my fifteen minutes back.
Fittings showing this can work or STFU, TBH.

Hey Pilk,
I hear you are a bit flush for cash now, any chance of a loan to try it out? j/k

Well at least tell me why it sucks!
The most DPS I can get it to tank is about 1,800 or so, which is NOT enough.
Meanwhile, even kitted out with Pashan's implants, Mega Pulse, four heat sinks, and +20% MF crystals, they're not doing much more DPS than a competent blaster-Mega. Admittedly, they're doing it from better range, but given their multiple shortcomings relative to a blasterthron, the setup's simply not worth considering further.
Sorry.

Okay, that makes a lot more sense now. I kind of designed this setup around being defensive without some of the shortcomings of the dual logistic setup since each Nightmare has an equal role in tanking and helping its squad-mates tank.
What - if anything - might make a setup like this viable? This makes me think that the extra slots should be devoted to e-war to break the opposing logistics chain, reducing the need for high DPS. Or maybe it just wouldn't be enough to make up for it?
EDIT: And damn, I was afraid that the lack of responses was due to facepalming. ---------------- Tarminic - 33 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.79 |

Using two Nightmares, one Basilisk and a smattering of frigs/ewar would be a lot better. ------------------------------------------- Nightmare: Megapulse, Large Cap Transfer, Large Shield Transfer Extended resist tank with one ECCM, one remote ECCM Two PDS, three Heat Sinks
Basilisk: Four Large Shield Transfers, two Large Cap Transfer Extended resist tank with ECCM PDS ------------------------------------------- Question is if it's worth it as they are very pricey. The dual Abaddon/Guardian setup could probably perform equally well. Benefit of Nightmares in the tournament setting is not so much the damage but the tracking, a lot of the dual logistics survive due to the insanely low signature on the reppers mitigating a ton of damage.

I tried a fair bit to come up with a setup for 3 Nightmares (or 3 Paladins) that I liked.
The simple fact of it is that with the proliferation of EWar, regardless of your ships or your ECCM, larger teams simply do better than smaller teams. The 3 expensive BS team is a four man team assuming you run a Griffin or a faction frig, and it just doesn't work out so well, regardless of looking fairly decent in theory.
As mentioned above, dual BS with some variation on the support theme is better.
At this point in the tournament, I dont think anyone should be fielding anything less than a Curse, and preferably more, cap warfare.
Cap warfare is the new ECCM with the current metagame of the tourney.

Calmdown, if you fit enough remote censorboosters it could work.

/me plans on coming up with an amusing image macro with images of censors being remotely boosted in some way, but then decides describing it is almost as funny (i.e., mostly not) and approximately 100% less effort.
But yes, cap drain and ECCM--or, in the latter case, a setup that doesn't care if it's jammed a la Vexorswarm--are two crucial components of any viable mainstream strategy at this point in the tournament.
