In eve... assuming u fit the best mathematical gank/tank (nvm range/speed) the rupture will kill the thorax first assuming they sit at the optimal range of the thorax not moving and just firing away.

Its a close fight no matter what.
Thorax and Rupture are probably the best 2 cruisers in game.
Now the Minmatar battleships need some love. There is a world of difference between the tempest AC fit, and the Megathron blaster fit

True on the alpha damage, but I was thinking more about artillery vs rails. With the blasters high alpha, it really looks a way better choice in this tournament.
Ruptures against Thoraxes match could go both ways, but as theoretic stuff goes, I doubt that there's that many teams which could field 10 pilots with all relative skills to lvl 5 in any case.
To return into the original subject, I don't think that there's that many guys out there who do real TQ PvP who would say that minmatar ships are bad in PvP. In my opinion, all races are pretty well balanced.

I would agree with that... i can setup a good ship out of pretty much anything... any race... any ship! Well if any team ever does get 9 pilots with lvl 5 rupture skills all the way around, ill join LOL since i maxed out rupture skills from day 1!

theres probibly a LOT of max skilled minmatar cruiser pilots - they amount of vaga's, rapiers, huginns out there pretty much guarentee's it.
and I guess i have to take back my comment about noone winning a tourney match with a maelstrom just now

Maelstrom does make a good tourney ship. It has amazing dps with 800T2, and a nasty shield tank.
It kind of fails on TQ due to the scram web MWD problem completely negating its tank. So mega still beats it hands down solo...and armour tanks are easier to remote rep due to their buffer (in general)
However in tourney, my Minie BS 5 and large AC spec 5 might actually mean something

yeah, i use a mael in tq pvp as well, and you can get around at least some of the sheild tanking issues by rigging resists, but thats not an option in the tournament (although you can pass up the scram and maybe the web if you have someone else webbing for you...)
but 3 gyros on a 800mm ac maelstrom can outdps a mega pretty decently on paper.

Maelstroms weakness in tournament is that it can do good "self" tank, but it doesn't bring anything special on table remote repairing wise as ships like Rokh / Abbadon.
But yeah, I do love to see them grind with AC's, specially with EVE TV sounds on. =)

I get around 980dps with implants, but megas can do far more, however they dont tank as well. So if you lucky you can kill megas solo in it, but usually they web you and try to get out of optimal when they see how much dps you doing
Edit: also..just 1 tracking disruptor messes up the 800 tracking badly, unless you have a web..and thats another invul thrown away
Thats why I like to fit some ECM drones
However for an AC ship...you really need that web scram MWD combo. That would make it awsome

Utterly meaningless actually; the format of the tournament is artificial in a number of ways that make it significantly different from "real" pvp. No warping out, so no tackle needed. Limited space, so running away isn't really viable - means missile flight time/speed is less relevent. EWar is prevalent, so the lack of FoFs is painful, especially with generally smaller drone bays than say Gallente equivalents.
I fly caldari ships extensively for ratting and mission running as I feel missiles are more flexible; but I fly minmatar pretty much exclusively for PvP because speed, instant damage from guns and mids free for tackling is of paramount importance.

Edited by: Cz Ire on 08/03/2008 20:35:55 playing with eft (max skills) for the mega to out dps a triple gyro mael would have to fit 2 magstabs (neutrons vs 800s). Even then its a very minimal diffrence ( 906 vs 980, but the ac's have an extra 5km range)
and fitting triple gyros to a mael hurts it a lot less than double magstabs on a mega; so for that kind of dps both ships have to give up something - a slot for mwd on mael, or 2 lowslots on the mega (and more cap drain from the blasters for the higher rof)
but, in the end, with compairable dps imo; the fact the mega has the free utility slot is a big bonus in the tournament; even if it is more cap-reliant.
to be fair we should be compairing a mael to hyperion or a mega to tempest, but imo a mega vs tempest isnt much of a compitition, unfortunatly. mega has something around nearly half again the dps of a pest :(

Fair point that a tier 3 Minie BS only just measures up to the Mega
With implants in, you can get Megas over 1100dps. I have been hit pretty hard by that nasty H Zub guy...trust me his Mega set up with only 2 mag stabs hits like a fkin mule And with the free high slot...the heavy neut kind of messes with a maels tank
Oh and mega can field 5 heavies...thats a nice little drone bay they have

Just so you know, the Mael I used was high alpha, 8x 1400mm T2 Howwies with Republic Fleet EMP, ~80km w/ falloff @ 6.3k alpha. Combined that with a cruise raven, loaded up with faction ammo and 3 bcus, spitting out 3.7k alpha, total that at 11k alpha, and you have the reason why their tanks melted. (respectively, the caracal on top brought the alpha up a tad, but the dps was relatively low sitting at around 1,500dps between our team)
