was told that for a Gallente, I should boost my armor and not shield. I don't get the picture how to concentrate on armor yet. Any advice please? Shield is quite simple from the Tutorials because it recharge itself. How does armor work?

Armor rep - repairs armor Armor hardener - uses cap, gives resistance to 1 damage type Energized plating - no cap, gives resist to 1 damage type Armor plating - adds more armor, makes ship more heavy Energized Adaptive Nano something (EANM) - no cap, gives resist to ALL damage types Damage control - uses little cap, gives modest resists to shields, armor and hull

Look under Item Database at left under Skills and just go thru them--some skills for shield tanking and Armor tanking overlap like for capacitor skills.. U will want to train Hull Upgrades... Armor Compensation skills and many others in order to use T2---u can also look at modules and look at descriptions and Req (required)skills to determine what u need to train.... U could look at setups in other parts of the forums and then look at each item to determine what u need to train... READ a lot...Use EFT eve fitting tool and EveMon (download both from forums)

Beware of armour plating. Sure it gives you more armour, but it also adds mass to your ship, slowing you down and in turn making you easier to hit. It reduces its own benefit.

Hmm never saw the above info before--it appears to have been completed before the advent of rigs--very good info nevertheless..

You're a new player so you're probably flying a small ship with only 2 or 3 low slots. Let's say you have an Atron. First you'll put a 50mm armor plate in a low slot, and then put a small armor repairer. That's a simple armor tank. You might put a capacitor recharger in a middle slot, which gives you more energy to run the armor repairer longer.
When you have more low slots, you can add things like Energized Adaptive Nano Plating, which increases your % resistance to damage, rather than increasing your hit points. You can also add more armor repairers, more modules that strengthen your capacitor, and more modules that increase your damage resistance.
The benefits of armor tank are: Very energy-efficient compared to shield tanking. Leaves middle slots open for PVP necessities such as warp scramblers and stasis webifiers.
The drawbacks of armor tanking are: It can make your ship slower. You have less time to react and get away when your tank fails.

On Joe's last sentence above--that's why when one uses an armor tank they will many times have a DC Damage control unit in a low slot which in addition to other areas also increases hull hp's and will allow more time to get out if ur armor is failing...I don't use one when shield tanking but I do when armor tanking (a DC II to be exact)

DC is handy for shield tanker too. However for shield tanker its not rare a PDS be more handy. Maybe a matter of taste. Pan |

Good point, a damage control unit is a bargain and does a great deal to keep you alive.
