Although I'm enjoying watching this tournament, just like the previous years tournaments, I just wanted to air my frustrations as to the errors being made on EVE tv by the experts, who by the way, I actually believe do a decent job... ironic, isn't it.
Firstly; A Geddons lasers when firing blue and green are not firing Scorch and Multis, you plank! Try Conflag and Gamma, as two possible. Scorch is purple and Multi is indeed white, as stated by Spiral.
Secondly; One expert, can't recall who, said that he 'thought' the Rapier got a web range bonus. 'Thought?' What kind of expert isn't sure about the use of a Rapier in a modern PVP fleet?
Thirdly; Kia Edz fella, your alliance wasn't the first to kill a dual logistic setup without a single logistic vessel of your own. Check out the CRMSN and IAC match on day two. 2 Basilisks died very quickly to our fleet, and we didn't use a single logistic ship.
Feel free to add more peeps, without flaming them. They do a good job despite the cringe making errors you'd expect experts to know about ;)

Not that it mattered in the slightest, but today wasn't the first use of a bomb-chucking SB either.
No idea what it was intended for, or if indeed it even got to fire, but the Nemesis UCAM fielded agaisnt the 4th had a bomb rack fitted and bombs loaded.

On day 2, saying ED live in the south...
I only mention this one because a new item was done on our alliance, stating where we lived and such, so it's pretty funny.
The commentary is fairly good though and the experts try their best, but sometimes you can get a bit nervous by the fact you're appearing on TV in front of thousands of viewers and that alone can make you say and do some silly things, even when you know the correct answers, such as the Rapier comment i'd imagine.

Multis are blue. OK, theyre not straw-blue, but theyre light blue tbh.
And yeh, I got the T2 crystals mixed up. So sue me. I challenge anyone to talk about eve for hours on end and not make a single mistake.
Meh, I'd rather get my laser colours mixed up and know how to set up a tourney team than know the colours and field some of the atrocious setups we saw today :P

Also, experts tend to say 'I think' before a lot of stuff because anytime you say anything with conviction and make a slight error, some whiny child on the forums makes a post about the experts being really bad 3 seconds later...

Yeah, just about every fight has commentators miscalling ship types, names, hulls....and they repeatedly miss ship destructions, in some fights it feels like they miss over half of what is going on.

A little known fact: one cannot simple own in eve AND be able to handle the camera.
you have to find the middlevalue between nerd geek playing 24/7 and someone who is perfect infront of the cam.

This frankly.
Whenever I get into a voice based conversation about Eve I frequently stumble over names of ships and ammo. I bet that if most people here were given three ship names verbally and challenged to talk about all three they would just get confused and feign disinterest.
That said, it would probably be beneficial for commentators to get a side computer with the item database open for this purpose. ---- Exploding underpants: The real weapon of last resort. |

Watched our day 4 replay today (Molotov Vs Kadeshi).
Commentators made a major miscall when they saw me pull my drones off 1 Vexor (In Armour) onto another (In Structure).
After watching the replay again I realised they were looking at the wrong ship.

Gentlemen,
My intent was not to flame, per se.
I do not consider myself even remotely qualified to be an eve expert, far from it in fact. I make mistakes like everyone, even some that most of the present company reading this thread wouldn't make, but even I, with my limited knowledge can still understand the difference between lasers and the various roles of commonly used PVP ships. Again, not my intention to flame, I'm just curious as to how someone that can be classified an expert can make such easy mistakes about the basics...
And Calmdown, that's a fair point that talking for many hours is bound to bring up a few errors and mistakes. I'm not that harsh a critic ;)

Just a thought: if the above is true, maybe you should change your thread title to something minus "Somebody shoot them please!" Kind of starts things off on the wrong foot, I'd say.

This is EVE, shooting people is perfectly acceptable.

Think what Taes was going for was that people would think "shoot them" = not in game .
Whatever, its internet spaceship forums.

Edited by: Adonis 4174 on 09/03/2008 09:48:42 On the whole they're not doing much worse than the professionals. Just wait, eventually we'll get an eve equivalent to the cricket classic of "The batsman's Holding, the bowler's Willy." (note punctuation for actual meaning).
Actually, while I'm at it, compare to these football commentary quotes
As a couple of examples I will pull out:
"I never comment on referees and I'm not going to break the habit of a lifetime for that prat."
and
"It's now 1-1, an exact reversal of the score on Saturday." ---- Exploding underpants: The real weapon of last resort. |

LOL ^
on topic though, yes theres been the odd one or two mistakes, and people obviously pick up on them because its easy to do so when youre only spectating/listening- its like when someone else prrofreads your work and spots something youve missed having checked several times. that combined with the fact that a lot of spectators will be watching and listening with the intention of spotting mistakes. to be fair though most of the mistakes which have been made are just slipups, as opposed to them actually being wrong about something.
i think given that this is an amateur event at the end of the day, and that these guys are doing it under a degree of pressure for long periods of time, theyre doing a pretty good job.
