Is there any reason that he is using a dreadnought for mining? is this ship in any way better than a hulk or mach for this purpose?
what i mean is, does the dreadnought have enough grid/cpu to fit stripminers etc, without the bonus to fittingrequirements that hulks and other mining ships get?
a last question, does the revelation have more than 3 hardpoints to fit mininglasers to?
(a very nice argument would be the respectable cargohold...) but i think that the hulk has a simular capacity if one does not account for 8 cargoexpanders... :)
then again. if i could mine in a dreadnought, i as i imagine a very large proportion of all of you, would most certainly do it just for the hell of it. ^^

Without knowing anything about cap ships or mining ships, and without checking, I'm going to guess that it has something to do with cargo capacity.

You should start a convo with chribba to be sure, hes actually a pretty cool guy. But i think he does it, as has just been said, because he can. Not to mentiont he huge cargo hold and the cool factor of a dread in high sec :)

That is correct, however over a year ago, capital ships could be built in High sec. Chribba's is one of the few Caps still left in high sec. If i remember correctly, he might have more than one dread in high sec.

I think that there may be one or two others, but none are as infamous as the Veldnought.
And there is at least one other reason to mine in a Dreadnought in HiSec: you're pretty much immune to suicide gankers. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

yeah, gankers should really dont bother... i wonder how much it would acually take to instapop a dreadnought... lets assume he is using 8 expanders II in is lows. this means that the ship is completly without a tank, but it is still 343750 shield/armor hp to chew away. (not counting resists) + th structure is not counted in there either...
anyone have an estimate of how many ships and what class would be needed to achieve this? :)

To instapop this, I think it would take more suicide torp ravens that a single solar system could support. ___________________________________________

192 max skilled t1 torp ravens 206 max skilled t1 tempests 160 max skilled t1 blasterthrons (assuming you can get 2 shots off) 180 max skilled smartbombing armageddons, if you can get 2 shots off (this is logically impossible)

There are probably plenty in 0.5-0.7 (as I have a whole rack in those regions as well).
But like previous poster said, there's a Phoenix in Sobaseki (0.8) and there's mine in Amarr (1.0).
Apart from those two there are (to my knowledge) no capitals in 0.8 or higher.

Even with 8 MLU II's, and the best possible skills (Mining V, Astrogeology V, Modulated Deep Core Miner II's with Crystals), you would only get:
120m3 * 1.75 (Crystal) = 210m3 210m3 * 3 slots = 630m3 630 * 1.25 (Mining V) * 1.25 (Astrogeology V) = 984.38m3 984.38 * 1.09^8 = 1961.42m3 per 3min cycle.
My Rokh mines twice that and is just as safe from gankers, though not as unique or big ------------------------
