Chalk me up with that problem too... ran decently smooth yesterday at 1680x1050 with my old geforce3 64 meg (for some reason EvE lets my card run that res while no other programme else will), but today after patching using the same rez (and even rez's far lower than that) the fps unplayable (id say in the 10-15 range, when before it was within the 30-40/50 fps range when just traveling around doing nothing to hectic).
This is with the classic client. - The Boot.ini Incident glances off your EvE Install causing no real damage! - |

Originally by: CutterJohn I had the same problem, but was able to fix it.
Go into graphic settings make sure you have stencil buffer and 24bit colour with 8bit alpha enabled. That put my framerates back to where they were (about triple what it was initially post patch)
hmm ill give that try might work, since I was using the 24bit without the 8bit stencils - The Boot.ini Incident glances off your EvE Install causing no real damage! - |

Hmmm wow, 19 fps inside a station with the station environments turned off. Was worse than I originaly thought. - The Boot.ini Incident glances off your EvE Install causing no real damage! - |

Hmmm.. been a week and still no change?... Logged in just now and thought it might be ok since I was getting 40+ fps inside teh stations, undock and bang down to 7 fps again.
Im wondering if somehow the engine isnt ignoring the rendering of stations planets and ships outside of the players maximum visual range... might account for why some systems are fine and others aint (although given some people mention normaly decent population systems are fine for them might blow that idea out of the water). So basicly your cards rendering every damn ship within the system in your line of site regardless of its distance from the player. Then again i know nothing...
Account runs out in 2 weeks... dont think im gonna continue if all I can do is sit in a station and train. Thankfully theres a chance I might make it into the WAR Beta soon. - The Boot.ini Incident glances off your EvE Install causing no real damage! - |

Hmm well I got finnished installing my new system and graphics card yesterday and gave EvE (classic client) a spin to see what sort of improvement id get, well 90-120fps compared to my old post 'boost' patch 5-15fps was quite a smile maker. However I did notice my card was basicly expelling air that could melt faces from the back vent. Looking at Rivatuners hardware monitor, there was a odd trend...
While docked inside a station my GPU usage was 100% (with temperatures to match that 70+ degrees), undocked and flying around the GPU usage was more in the 50-70% range and the temps where a hell of a lot lower (45-50 degrees).
Why does being docked basicly uber use your graphics card and basicly attempt to fry the thing and being outside not?... on classic client to boot.
My Vid cards a Sapphire HD3870 and ive set the fan speed to a constant 50% with rivatuner since that cards known to have a borked fan control bios that keeps it set at 25%. - The Boot.ini Incident glances off your EvE Install causing no real damage! - |

Edited by: Dapper Danny on 30/03/2008 05:59:33 Edited by: Dapper Danny on 30/03/2008 05:58:01 Its interesting but after noticing a 100% gpu usage and temp increases while just sitting docked in a station ive looked at other parts of EvE and heres an odd one to be sure...
When sitting on the login screen which isnt much more than a few 2d images or so with a simple 3d scene, my gpu in less than half a second (according to rivatuner) goes being 35 degrees on the desktop to almost 60 degrees on the login screen... in less than half a second!. Also the GPU usage meter reads 88-90% GPU being used... for a login screen?.
My question is, Why is it using so much?... while this isnt a great comparison example, ive been playing Unreal 2 the last few days which is a realy old game these days but I never played it on any real good settings when I bought it since my old vid card was ancient and so I thought id give it a spin with my new vid card I got a week ago. Now even in the biggest fire fight, with all settings at maximum (along with 8x aa) the GPU usage never broke past the upper 70% mark, and the temp never real broke past 45 degrees. This is with my GPU fan set at 50% speed.
Why is my HD3870 vid card basicly breaking its butt rendering a simple login screen?. Anyone else got similar results?... something has to be seriously wrong with that. Good that they've acknowledged it and are fixing it. - The Boot.ini Incident glances off your EvE Install causing no real damage! - |
