I for some reason like the new behavior of the ALT key.
Pre-patch I wasn't able to use the ALT key as a meta key for e.g. ALT+F1 because everytime I hit it the screen got stuck for about a second. Now that's fixed but I agree, there has to be a key or maybe a key combination to simply display all the brackets in space.

I agree with the op and other supporters here; this change was very harmful. Please fix it, either by restoring the old functionality or by providing a suitable equivalent (that is, one that makes showing the positions of moons, etc easy).

Well plain alt to toggle stuff that has the potential to lag you for a good while was absolutely moronic choice of a key for anyone who enjoys using keyboard shortcuts for more than just f1, f2, f3. I'll take alt-z over that any day. Also, what are people talking about with that moon thing, the tiny ring in space-thingymamob? My alt-z shows those just fine along with belts and other crap even tho my main bracket settings don't show moons. Maybe I'm lucky or did I just misunderstand what people want?

But seriously, i tried to fiddle with the overview settings and all, but no luck getting the moon icons to show in space :(
Toggle might be even better than the old thing, especially when the camera likes to zoom in some times when you fiddle with the camera alt pressed. But whether or not, ze icons, ze icons.

Reminds me of the stupid change to stations.
The one so you cant look at the ceiling while docked.
I used to love looking 360' under/over the ships.
Had some nice art work on the Ammar station ceiling.

Why do I have to be a post-doc engineer to use a function that worked better before by hitting one button?
I almost never, ever post on these forums. But this is ridiculous. What, WHAT was wrong with the previous ALT button?
Alt-Z? New Tabs? Clicking on my ship to get a box that disappears as soon as I click on something else? Moons that show up whenever I move over a planet, but not when I want to see them?
Whose ideas were these? Why did you take a simple thing that worked and make it into something complicated that doesn't?
I mean, it truly boggles the mind.
If the new way is better, please, show us how. I had to click on 1800 "introduction" screens to go away and never come back to show me how to use functions that a 5-yr old could understand, but I can't find any explanation on how to make the game work like it used to. Easily, simply, and well.
I'm going to go differentiate linear equations with a blindfold on because it's easier and more intuitive than setting up my overview to do something I used to be able to do by hitting ONE BUTTON. ONE! ONE!!!!

...so the patch comes out, alt key still doesnt work, and the moons are now on overview *ALL THE TIME* and still do not follow the overview settings (i.e. now there is now no way to disable them).
the whole point of the alt key was that it makes it remarkably easy to tell the moons from everything else as you can see them appear / disappear as you cycle the key.
additionally (and perhaps most importantly), the alt key (used to) put a bracket around the players own ship - this is *VITAL* when you are in a cloaked covops and zoomed way out.
can the devs please get this one right already...

Click on your ship, it will show a selection box. Works even when cloaked. Use this for now, until (if at all ) the devs decide to fix the alt-key.

it doesn't always work and generally takes multiple clicks and will definitely cause the ship to align and pick up speed because you have to click multiple times which is annoying and dangerous in certain situations, the alt key worked perfectly

My problem with this key is the alzheimer it suffers.

Seriously...
Maybe because they rewrote the way brackets are shown which meant the functionality of the alt key did not work with the new way. Then they had to rewrite it once more to get to a middle ground where the brackets work like they currently do but also support the old functionality of the alt key.
If they just reverted the change it would mean the removal of the overview tabs and surrounding new features as well.

Bring back the functionality but either make the key configurable or make it something else than alt.
alt is a crucial key for anyone setting up macros and the old system, where hitting an alt-based macro in wrong place resulted in a horrible lag spike, was beyond ********.
