Depends how mutch attention you can spare to it. Mission runner (combat), mission runner (hauling) / Miner (hulk with cargo expanders) are usually used options to fund the main character. Mining is propably least attention intensive and combat missions most attention intensive. There is ofc other options also available but those listed are simplest ones.
Cov ops scout or cyno alt are also always handy to have and so on.

Well, Jihadswarm is making mining a little more attention-intensive. Especially if you fly a hulk. ------------------------------------------------- Mac Graphics Performance Guide <3 my Drones |

Personally i would start with training an alt for covert ops. It will take less than 2 months and even if you didnt use him as much as you would like at least after less than 2 months of traning you know you can a covert character. If mining is your thing then a hulk character would not be such a bad idea then you can train an alt on your main account who could haul. This way when your in the mining mood you wont need to move your main character to haul. In the end it all comes down to what you feel would be most useful to you or your corporation.

Trader-Char. Goes fastest and everyone should have one. Don't spend too much on charisma, you will have to learn hauler/freighter and afterwards the char could be used as logistics/cs-support.

A trader/hauler character as suggested is good, but those don't take long to get. Once you've got the skills you need there, consider leadership skills. Even the basic skills give handy bonuses if you're a mission runner - they can give that little defensive edge to pull you out of a sticky situation. And once you get them fully specialised to mindlink levels, they give superb bonuses.
It takes a fair while to skill to this level, and they're charisma-based skills, so fully spec'd leadership pilots are not common and are always welcome in any corp.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

Train one char slot for basic trading & hauling. Then work on training your real alt: get him into Falcon for PvP and, if you want, a Raven for PvE.

You could always train up salvaging quickly then bring him along and salvage the missions as you do them. then go on to making him play the market or manufacture items with the loot

If you don't have some specific need for a second account, why get it?
Don't just get another account because "all the other kids are doing it". <insert comment about if the other kids were walking off a cliff...>
Alts are overrated, IMO.

You might realize another pvp pilot would help you greatly with one being the tackler the other being the damage. That and you will probably have more fun with a 2 different races pvp characters. Then you can use the money you have from missions/ratting/ransoms/loot to buy a trading/freighter alt. Sig removed. When I started my very first second account I trained up a character with scan probing and freighter hauling skills. It could fly covert ops and freighters pretty much. Was great because it saved me a lot of time hauling my own stuff around when I switched my living areas. Then I started training it for mining but never actually used it for it. I quit with mining skills and started a second character on that account because I wanted to try pvp with ships of other races. My first character was specialized in one race only and it would have taken me many months to become decent flying another race, so instead I had my support alt and my second pvp character on the second account. I used the first one for probing down exploration sites and targets sitting in safespots, also as scout alt for camping because it looked as an industrialist. Second character was e-war and dictor specialized. The character on my first account in turn had more training time to get large T2 guns and awesome support skills for pvp.
