Is it classified as such by CCP? And if so where can I find documentation demonstrating it as such?

Edited by: Whip Slagcheek on 16/03/2008 20:40:40 Players might say it is an exploit but if you ask CCP if it is an exploit, they will say no. You can ask ccp by using the petition system. There is a category for asking if things are exploits.
Even if someone says in local, "time to loggoffski", then proceeds to log in and out 100 times, there is nothing CCP will do because they consider "logging in and out of the game" a normal part of gameplay.

Logoffski you can't in general prove it isn't an exploit, but what if people are logging in an alt character so that the character they logged off disappears instantly? Had an instance where we were chasing a guy around a system, scan finished about 10 seconds after he logged out, warped to him and watched him disappear as he was being locked just to see the alt we had confirmed earlier login .

That is normal game mechanics. The logging in an alt thing may have worked at one point but no longer works. If you think it still works, do all the log server stuff and bug report it.
Unless they have a pvp timer, they will disappear in 60 seconds (some people dispute this number) regardless of what you do. Even if you think you have aggressed them, local takes time to update so they might have logged out before you client knew it.

CCP came out awhile back and said that they couldn't reproduce it, didn't they? Or have I drank too much since then? ------------------------------------

This. Playing often with 2 account I can confirm that there is a noticeable delay between quitting EVE and the chat (local, corporation, ecc.) noticing it. Never timed it but precisely, but I would put it at between 10 and 20 seconds.

Everytime I have tried to reproduce it, it hasn't worked. The only time I hear of people saying it works is because a ship disappeared in front of them which is due to the target not being pvp flagged and poor knowledge of game mechanics.

He was on buddylist of a few people so might have just been lag on that, showing on other peoples clients. Just checked it and it doesn't work, now I'm ****ed we stopped trying to catch him thinking he was using some sort of clever game mechanic to avoid us .

It's kinda lame when a WT logs off everytime they see you, but it's just a part of the game. How can you possibly consider that logging on or off the game is an exploit? Logic fails these forums. _____________ Hai. |

Personally I would hate being slapped with a ban for closing client and getting sleep. It is easy for me to imagine ratting and wanting "just one more BS before bed" when hostile's enter system and you decide to safe up and log right away instead.
The biggie at the moment is the people NOT logging off, but remaining in space under cloak indefinitely.
The logging in second-character-on-same-account was deemed an exploit and removed quite a while back. A person with no timer running disappears a lot faster than one might think, a small anchored bubble and a cloaked hac usually takes care of that though :D
So to recap .. not an exploit, but lame as hell :)

As far as I know, it's not an exploit. It's just another one of those actions that many players feel is unfair, cheap, discourteous, lame and/or cowardly. ---

Thats because you are wrong.
No agro of any sort - disappear in 60seconds PvE agro - disappear in 120seconds PvP agro - disappear in 15mins.
If they logoff, and then even 1 second later you shot them, they will still disppear in their alloted time (except maybe the PvP one, not sure about that).
BUT - if they then login within 15mins of that, and then instantly logoff again - they will be hit with a full 15min PvP logoff timer, due to the PvP agro you 'gave them' (except they were offline).
Thats why ISK/macro farmers logoff for 20mins in 0.0 - because they know even if you hit them after they logoff, they wont have any agro when they log back in after 20mins, regardless.

CCP considers the logoffski normal gameplay and not an exploit. Already tried petitioning this.
I think it should be considered an exploit if you're attacked by another player within a set time period of logging off.
If you're attacked by someone within 1 or 2 minutes of logging off, you should stay in space for an additional amount of time...maybe 5 more minutes? Otherwise, you get people who abuse the logoff to escape certain death like RA does.
Furthermore, when logging in/out multiple times, it should jump you to the spot where you first started the string of login - logouts. The multiple login - logoff tactic to get out of danger is messed up as well.

it's considered to be lame/unhonourable but in eve honour is only ever used against (as in someone has none or if they do laugh at them for having e-honour etc) people so really logging off is cool because everyone does it.

It's not an exploit, but it is a lame abuse of a valid game mechanic. You can try to catch them when they log back on, but there are ways to stop the auto-warp and most logoffski players know how to do that as well.
It's not worth to play the "name and shame game" on the forums about that specific individual, mainly because you are letting them know that they have won, they have successfully frustrated you.
If they log off on you and you don't have enough warp scram points on them, just wait a bit, they will have to log back on at some point.

Why not make the PvP timer 1 hour instead of 15 minutes. People will log off a whole lot less often and most likely try to make a break for it instead of the 'logoffski' tactict after just 15 minutes.
Then again, I am sure that will have its own side affects I guess.
Or maybe have gates count as aggro to some degree, like a 5 minute timer or something.
It is just so lame to have some guy/gal make it to a gate and jump thru and then just vanish. Or just bounce around safe spots for a few minutes then log off.
1 hour I say!

Right. Because if everyone doesn't dedicate time in their lives to fight through unexpected combat or make time for WTs to chase them around, clearly they should be punished. _____________ Hai. |

Pretty much
Freighter logoffski is the worst. You can pretty much fly a Freighter through low-sec with no escorts and no scout so long as you hover your mouse over the 'X' button and logoff every time so much as an Inty appears on overview. ...

As far as i know, CCP doesn't like it either, but as mentioned above, it is impossible to separate genuine linkdeath from logoffski in cold hard fact, so they can't pursue it as an exploit (unless you did it a lot), nor program the client to prevent it.

There actually are ways for them to track how you logged off, I mean they can go into the logs and see if you manually logged as oppossed to just suddenly disconnected. This however only proves it in the case that someone did a CNTL-Q. If however you simply turn off your computer or click the X in the Eve screen it would not leave a trace of what you did.
Personaly I agree with CCP on the method they are using. After all the most likely time you will disconnect is during a high net traffic situation like a PVP combat with multiple ships. I have been disconnected from many battles myself followed with complaints and accussations that I loggofskied to avoid death.
