I was wondering if antimatter is really that much better for missions; is the added damage worth the range sacrifice? on 350s? on 425s? Are 425s worth the tracking penalty as compared to 350s? I have about 21m sp, cannot use t2 large hybrids, and fly a navy mega, although it is fine to list a fit for a regular mega. Any help is appreciated

From what I understand, only use Antimatter with weapons that are already short range, or in special situations. On my rokh with BS IV I get 50km optimal with 425mm railguns and antimatter (I actually use faction antimatter which is just higher damage).
With BS V I will have a base optimal of 54km. I have a faction tracking comp I can switch to optimal if I need the range.... ---------------------------------

There's just no situation where 350mm's will be better than 425mm's, the tracking difference is negligible and your primary weapons should always be shooting at BS/BC targets.
It might be worth switching ammo types depending on the range of your target so don't count out antimatter so quickly. In missions where the NPC's orbit you real close its very effective.

with two tracking computers you can reach out to 45km (just using t2 ones) with antimatter. Falloff i believe is like 20km or so, meaning that you can do half damage (2 mag stabs, 2 tracking computers) at around 60-70km range without even needing to switch. Personally, on such a setup I wouldn't use anything weaker than Uranium. With two tracking computers, your optimal range would 72 - more than enough for any mission. Also, tracking enhancers give just as much range as tracking computers. However, you have to deal with the fact that you cannot switch it to track better in close.
That being said, its tough to make a setup run very well capwise - it might be best to use a cap booster as your primary source of cap when you need to tank, and just try to get it to permarun the guns.

On a Megathron, I agree with you because it has the lovely tracking bonus; fitting a full rack of 425s on a Mega, especially T2 ones, can be tricky though.
On a Rokh or a Hyperion, which lack said tracking bonus, 350s really do help, especially if something gets fairly close to you. The range bonus on the Rokh offsets the smaller gun so it's a good match, but the Hyperion just gets stuck with short-range rails with okay tracking or medium-range rails with lousy tracking, which is why I think it's not as popular for missions.

Absolutely, you need to match your ammo to your mission. I will typically pack antimatter and thorium as they're a good balance of damage and range that don't overlap too much or gimp your DPS as much at long range.

What If I do not want to use tracking computers/enchancers (prefer to keep slots for cap rechargers/mag stabs)? Is antimatter still a viable/good option then?

If you don't want to use tracking computers/enhancers... I would recommend a different ship for you. Quite frankly, without the extra range that the computers/enhancers give you, you aren't going to be able to get decent DPS at significant ranges. I'm assuming that you want those mids/lows because you want to run a permasetup - I'm sorry... but the mega doesn't work well that way.
That being said - you can always try it and see how it works out. I think you will end up rather disappointed with the results though.

I use antimatter in my 425s. Most stuff when you shoot at it in missions fly towards you, frigates pop 70-75 km away and larger stuff get hit more easily, if you are not able to hit them from that distance, just be patient, they will fly towards you and into optimal range and into their doom
if they get too close, just stick you drones on them and let them tear them apart.
