Edited by: Segeros Fang on 18/03/2008 08:28:53 Hi there, I am building up a new computer system (and I was wondering if I could get some feed back on it first (so I can find out if it is compatible with eve so I don't wast money on something I can't use), the specs are as follows: (I don't know much when it comes to computer components/compatible)
Power Supply: 750 Watt power supply
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad Processor Q6600. (2.4GHz, 8MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
OS: Genuine Windows Vista(R) Home Premium OEM Version.
Memory: 4GB (4X1GB) NECC Dual Channel DDR2 800MHz SDRAM Memory.
Hard drive: 2 X 500GB SATAG/s Hard Drive with Native Command Queuing.
Video Card: (Two options here) Dual 512MB PCIe(TM)x16 NIVIDIA(R) Geforce(R) 8800 G-T w/TV-Out & Dual DVI. or one 768MB PCIe(TM)x16 NIVIDIA(R) Geforce(R) 8800 GTX w/TV-Out & Dual DVI.
Physics Accelerator: AGEIA(TM) PhysX(TM) Action Accelerator. (Not needed, but could be useful for other games)
Sound Card: Sounds Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Sound Card.
Network Card: (for internet) Integrated Gigabit Ethernet.
That about sums it up, Not sure what mother bored is been used.
So can any one give me any feedback and/or advice on the system? (Also, I'm not just buying this for eve, my current system is just far to outdated)

way over kill for eve by far and you dont need the ageia bearly any games are able to even use. as for the ram i'd buy 2x 2bg sticks. only thing i see missing is a tv tuner so you can record tv shows and a second monitor.

Edited by: Segeros Fang on 18/03/2008 08:36:12 Thank you for your feedback. I know very few games use the AGEIA card, but I have seen a few interesting ones that do(If only I could remember the name, dammit). I'll see what I can do about the RAM (buying this system from a store, so my options are limited) buy I can always change the RAM over after I get it.
Two more question: Do you think the RAM would be fast enough at 800mhz? Is there a better RAM within the same price range as what I have in there now?
Thank you for your help. ( I don't mind if its over kill, I prefer it that way )

right now as far as i am aware 800mhz is as fast as you get in DDR2 there is new DDR3 out now but thats a whole new thing. As far as quality I like corsair or Kingston but pretty much any ram will do.

O.k, Thank you for the help. It has been a long time since I actually did anything regarding hardware. (Mostly work with networks, well.. I would if I had work). At least now I know that I'm not getting something that can't do what I want it to.
Sorry, two more questions again, Do you know if the OS listed is 32bit or 64bit? because I have heard that 32bit systems can't use the entire 4GB of ram.
What do you think would be the better choice out the the graphics cards listed? I think the 2x 512mb (more memory, I guess it could do 2 things at a time) would unless games are only able to use 1 card at a time.

Edited by: Thuraya Salairs on 18/03/2008 09:22:37 The os will likely be 32bit as for the card either is nice but duel imo will be better down the line as i think more and more games will come to be able to use duel video card setups. And yes 32bit os's wont read the full 4 gigs you need the 64bit additions, however i have 4 gigs on a 32bit (2x 2gb sticks) even though it doesn't read its nice to max it out most boards support 8 gigs now days.

I see thank you for all your help, It has been most... helpful. I have one final question then. (lets hope its the final) If 32bit OS can't read the 4gb, Only 3gb, Does that mean that 1gb is wasted or just not displayed but still used?

I have a similar system -- quad core with 4 GB RAM and an 8800 GT 512 MB. It works like a champ for me. I run Vista x64 so I can access all 4 GB of memory, haven't had any troubles there.
I bought this system to run 3x game instances so my perf needs are a bit different. A while back I was trying 2x instances on Trinity graphics and my GPU couldn't handle it -- I was seeing ~ 7 fps, this was back on an 8600 GT though. On the 8600 GT I was not able to run three classic instances smoothly either -- my 1st and 2nd would get 25-30 fps and the 3rd would get 7 fps. On the 8800 GT 512 MB, I can run three classic instances at 50+ fps.

If you're gonna run 32 bit memory I recommend you to use 2x1 GB + 2x0.5 GB (3GB total) since you'll "loose" the last gig otherwise.
I currently run a single 8800GTX and can sometimes (not often mind you) get some minor graphics lag in some situations on my dual-screen (dual client) setup (1920x1200 + 1600x1200).
If you aim for speed I'd go for the dual setup any time, especially if it's slightly cheaper.
And get those hard drives into a RAID1 or RAID0 setup, thats where your main performance gain will come from.

Having just installed sp1 for Vista Home Premium 32bit, i can confirm that windows does now detect the full 4GB i have installed (2 x 2GB). If it uses it or not i'm not sure, but at least it knows it's there. =============================================

No, 32 bit Vista will not use the full 4 GB of RAM. It has a 32 bit address space (exactly 4 GB) and it reserves some portion of it for system uses. In older versions of NT, it reserved 2 GB. When Vista was first released, it reserved 1 GB. Not sure if that was changed in SP1, I strongly doubt it.
Vista x64 is an excellent choice for 4 GB systems. I have no driver problems with it, it's stable, and it uses 4 GB or more of RAM properly.

And when you install VISTA x64 you can only use 2GB of ram. The bios doesnt recognize all 4GB. I had that problem and I almost lost my hair couse of it.
When you having that kind of system buy a good motherboard. I bought Asus Formula Extreme and havent got my Intel Q9450 2.3 Ghz with 12Mb cash, so I only use a 3.4Ghz multithread isntead but its sufficient for a coupple of months.

if you only get 1 video card and no physics accelerator you will have what i just put togeather for $800.00 and i can tell you with just 1 video card you will get 80 to 140 FPS with eve.
