Not sure how viable it is for CCP to do this..I suspect it would take some recoding..but.. How about,to cut down on docking/Undock games at stations..that ships have a timer from undock to redock time based on their relative sizes?
Seems pretty clear that a frigate could dock faster than a cruiser...a cruiser faster than bc..etc. Surely a logical step would be to have differentiated timers from undock to redock based on ship sizes...if taking 30 secs as base/limit...
Frigate 30 sec...cruiser 45 sec...BC..60 sec..BS 75 sec...Carrier 2 mins Dread 2 mins 30? Just rough estimates but would,in many situations, make pilots commit to combat more..or make them think more about playing these sort of games.
Could even have a skill(Docking Operations)..which could reduce these times by 5-10% per level..with prerequistes..perhaps based on ship type(i.e one skill per class)..or work out a common prerequisite for a single skill?
Another skill to consider(Not sure how it would factor in with the Amarr due to their specialisation)would be (Ammunition Replenishment)..i.e a skill that..per level trained offers a 10% reduction in weapon reload time.. Once again this could be a singular skill(allthough would suggest seperate ones related to projectile/hybrid and maybe missiles(Not a missile spec so unsure if they have this)... Or could even make it so that all the various classes have seperate skill..i.e small/medium/large etc.
Just some thoughts

I'm kind of torn on this one. I have another character that is an empire wardec pvper and undocking games have been annoying as hell. However with the way CCP recently adjusted how people undock, this alone may cut down on this by itself, because if the person chooses to stop their ship during the 30 second invulnerability period, they are no longer invulnerable and the people camping the station have a chance to destroy them in however long they have left before they can redock. On the same note, if they don't stop their ships, they could very well be past the minimum docking distance by the time they can redock and be webbed/destroyed anyways.
I say we sit on this for a little while and see how the most recent changes pan out.

Edited by: Alz Shado on 18/03/2008 14:52:08 Personally, I'd really like it if they ejected your ship cloaked at a random point on a radius 2500m from the station in empire, 5000m in lowsec, 10000m in 0.0. The mechanics would be similar to jumping into a system, where you stay cloaked for 60 seconds, which gives enough time for the session to change but not long enough to make it unfair.
First off, it would eliminate traffic jams in busy stations. It would make gate camping require more logistics to coordinate multiple tackler. And would reduce the effectiveness of undock instas. Ships still have to align in order to warp away, so the possibility of being tackled in that time frame is something to consider.
Small ships can make it back to the station to dock up relatively quickly while larger ships like battleships and carriers would be taking a risk. Station camps become interesting as all the targets appear from different locations instead of being clustered at one point, so a blob is less effective overall and it would require many more dictors to lock a station down. ------------------- "Kill a man one is a murderer; kill a million, a conqueror; kill them all, a God." -- Jean Rostand |
