Several stories here actually.
Back in beta when you could find ark in empire space easly, I had joined a new corp. I was still in my infancy and was still cruiseing around in a newb ship. So we were mining the system dry of ark for about a week, while i was training my skills up for various random things that made no diffrence. (note mwd  )
But anyway, after awhile I had descided to do some after hours mining to affoard myself a brand new punisher. I had seen them flying around and I really wanted one. So I slowly(with one mining laser(basic) and no mining skills) mined and returned a entire refine of ark in order to pay for my shiney new punisher. (punishers cost around 550k + 400k of gear back then so it was about the exact amount) So i managed to get it all and I refined it, and made my money. Then I traveled the 35+ jumps back up to where i could buy a punisher and gear. So after about two nights of work I had managed to finally get into my brand new shiney punisher.
So being the idiot that I was back then, I undcked and wanted to test it out agins the local angels (note that all npcs back then were angels and usually frigate cruiser mix). So I warp to a belt, find my targets, and open up on them. And they procede to kick my ass in under 15 seconds.
No ship insurance at this point so I was pretty much, gone. I blinked a few times, got ****ed off, and eventually quit.
Next day the server resets and phase 5 is introduced. And I was left sitting there like a blabbering idiot.
Now for a corp mates tale.
We had a old beta friend of mine that was back in the earlyer part of phase 4 before he got bored of eve return. So my old corp took him in and got him on his feet.
So after a few weeks and through a large amount of our help he was about to get his first cruiser. We had just finished a mining op, and with the split he had managed to make enough to buy a new vexor. So hes in a great mood, undocks and is flying around in it for awhile. So I send him a list of rules of how to keep his ship,(joke list) and he reads them and has a good laugh.
So the very next night hes trying things out, and he undocks, and hits his smartbomb by accient. Smartbomb goes off while hes like 500 meters fromt he station. The sentrys open up on him and he looses his brand new vexor. He was ****ed, and ended up logging and not comming back for a few days. Well, me being the good chap I am, I sent him some money to help him once again get back on his feet, and back into a cruiser. And he does and we write that one off as a stupid mistake never to make again.
