Hey, folks-
Just thought I'd ask: what's the most ridiculous way you've lost a ship? PvE, PvP -- that sort of thing. (and yes, I know these sorts of topics pop up every few days. ;) )
Myself, I was autopiloting a bessie through secure space with lots o' cargo expanders, so the beast was slow as bloody hell. I was AFK, of course, thinking secure space would be no worry -- and when I came back, I was at my destination in a pod.  The kill mail said that Guristas were responsible -- those wee little 2k-5ks at gates, which normally one doesn't even notice.

Me and a friend saw a gurristas of some name (Moa kind) near a station one time. We found it to be very odd so we decided to hang around for a bit and then I noticed a guy in pod. I contacted him and asked him what was the reason for him being in a pod and the toughest (at that time) gurrista near a station in a 0.5 system.
He told me that it was a mission gone wrong and he was waiting for a mate to help him finish it. Me and my friend decided to be of help to him, we were both in a merlin at the time (poorly equipped to). We planned to take out the big gurrista friend a kestrel kind.
We bravely attack the kestrel. I was a bit slow so I lagged behind but managed to pop of a shot before the kestrel went boom. As soon as the kestrel explodes I hear that I¦m getting locked and 3 seconds later I'm in a pod 
In hindsight I think it was a tad bit optimistic of us to shoot the kestrel and expect the big mofo just to sit there and watch.
Apparently I did make some use of myself though because the friend that was supposed to finish the mission arrived at exactly the same time and thanked me for distracting the Moa

I was flying along in my punisher and I wanted to test out my new medium beams. Well I thought that I had locked onto an NPC rat at a gate......turns out I locked onto the gate itself and started firing....needless to say I didn't last too long against the gate guns.

CONCORD zapped 2 of my Scorpions for silly reasons.
NPC's killed my blackbird (using 425mm autocannons and hardcore shield-tanking SEEMED like a good idea dn it was working well) when I got stuck on a roid and ran out of ammo.

First day, first mission, first 5 minutes - locked onto a gate :D Oops.
Not a big deal, noob ship ... but it cost me my noob character too! And I had his face just right! 
I had to remake my character then, since I couldn't finish the 1st tutorial mission - those papers were lost. That's the mission that never times out, too ... so I didn't feel like going into EVE Universe with a permanent 1st mission pending!

sigh.
Just after release. My first Stabber. A hunt lead by Hippey. Going after 1PG and maybe some rare NPC mods, when who should wander thru but Tank CEO.
All local plans disrupted as "pin the missile on the ganker" becomes the new game. Tackling wasn't the fine art it is today and much running about ensued.
Checking stations, hovering over it, he arrives and heads in to dock. Telling the gang i have him, locking, firing with a good ol' RUS-style F1 F2 F3....
missiles splash station, station splashes me. Kill notifcation for the most infamous, highest-bounty ganker in the game:

I was showing my Girlfriend at the time what Eve was.
I was in Gulmorogod along with about 15-20 enemy ships (Everlasting Vendetta) I was buzzing their station at long range picking off cruisers and generally being C¶cky as i always am  , after 5 minutes she asked me to show her what the nemy bships looked like, so i did the old "look at" on one of my run ins. She then asked me to kill it, now at this point there was only 4-5 battleships outside the station, so i engaged one, and after about 3 mintes of boring long 60km combat i moved a bit closer at my GF's request. I decided this wasn't good, and so slyly switched my target from a Scorpion to a Caracal, i blew it up in seconds, and que about another 7-8 bships warping ontop of me. I lasted about 50 seconds Vs the concentrated fire from about 15 ships. (I had been bugging them all week, picking them off one at a time from what i remember) All claire could say was to talk about the nice colours, the pretty explosions!
Needless to say im not with that particular GF anymore. And needless to say i made it out as if it was nothing for me to lose.
6 Hours later i lost another Ship to the same corporation, luckily CCP actually gave me that one back due to a bug!
women!
Weirdly im still c¶cky now.

Losing my temper with a can theif outside a station in 1.0 space, lost my beloved omen all due to rush of blood to the head and trigger finger.....

I was out hunting mining ops in 0.0 with a few friends. We had just popped an iteron V at a gate so everyone was stationary and someone was getting the loot. I was still approachign the stargate and didnt notice my autopilot was on. I jumped by accident and come out on an enemy blockade. Goodbye raven of mine

Several stories here actually.
Back in beta when you could find ark in empire space easly, I had joined a new corp. I was still in my infancy and was still cruiseing around in a newb ship. So we were mining the system dry of ark for about a week, while i was training my skills up for various random things that made no diffrence. (note mwd )
But anyway, after awhile I had descided to do some after hours mining to affoard myself a brand new punisher. I had seen them flying around and I really wanted one. So I slowly(with one mining laser(basic) and no mining skills) mined and returned a entire refine of ark in order to pay for my shiney new punisher. (punishers cost around 550k + 400k of gear back then so it was about the exact amount) So i managed to get it all and I refined it, and made my money. Then I traveled the 35+ jumps back up to where i could buy a punisher and gear. So after about two nights of work I had managed to finally get into my brand new shiney punisher.
So being the idiot that I was back then, I undcked and wanted to test it out agins the local angels (note that all npcs back then were angels and usually frigate cruiser mix). So I warp to a belt, find my targets, and open up on them. And they procede to kick my ass in under 15 seconds.
No ship insurance at this point so I was pretty much, gone. I blinked a few times, got ****ed off, and eventually quit.
Next day the server resets and phase 5 is introduced. And I was left sitting there like a blabbering idiot.
Now for a corp mates tale.
We had a old beta friend of mine that was back in the earlyer part of phase 4 before he got bored of eve return. So my old corp took him in and got him on his feet.
So after a few weeks and through a large amount of our help he was about to get his first cruiser. We had just finished a mining op, and with the split he had managed to make enough to buy a new vexor. So hes in a great mood, undocks and is flying around in it for awhile. So I send him a list of rules of how to keep his ship,(joke list) and he reads them and has a good laugh.
So the very next night hes trying things out, and he undocks, and hits his smartbomb by accient. Smartbomb goes off while hes like 500 meters fromt he station. The sentrys open up on him and he looses his brand new vexor. He was ****ed, and ended up logging and not comming back for a few days. Well, me being the good chap I am, I sent him some money to help him once again get back on his feet, and back into a cruiser. And he does and we write that one off as a stupid mistake never to make again.

first of all, hi alvar! nice one hehe, when did that happen?
Anyway,
i lost my neat little velator and a can full of ore on my 1st mining op in Eve itself, i had been playing for like 2 hours, and just got into that corp.
Some guy warped in, started ******* everybody off, and me, not knowing all of the rules, started to shoot him with my neat little Civil cannon, or whatever it was.
Concord arrived, and ****** me up in not time, along with another guy who accidentaly locked onto concord and started shooting... i dont know how he managed that, but i must say, they where not happy they got me into the corp that day :)
Next ****up:
I just got my 50mil for my first BS
I borrowed a 100 MN MWD from a corp mate, flew my thor over there, got the BS
hopped in, and enjoyed the ride home, somewhere along the line i got warp scrambled in a .4 system, where about 10 guys from Maffia where using the shield tank thing, they stopped me down, ****** up my BS till at about 70% hull and asked 20mil to move on...
lucky me i could borrow yet another 20mil from another corp mate, which made my total dept: 60mil...
... atleast i still had the ship, and i can savely say, just 16mil more, and im done :) |

Wasn't my loss but was blamed on me so.....
Corp m8 wanted to show me a smartbomb as I was only in the game for 3 days and had not seen one in action so he fitted one to his iteron mk3......
Told me to warp to him, upon doing so he let rip and it was pretty alright, even prettier were the sentry guns shooting at him till he went pop
Lets just say he doesnt go flying around with smartbombs fitted and near stargates anymore

Had to be when I first got a Rifter, thinking it was an "all out combat frig" as it said I went straight into 0.0, found a big 85k rat and started to engage it, literally seconds later a heavy missile says hello to my shields and gives me the good news, then to make matters worse before I could escape the rat mwd'd up to me and popped me in a few secs :D

Also when I first had my Rupture, I'd worked my ass off saving up for it, seen my m8 Rigel in his bestower approaching a station, so I decide to test out my target disruptor Sentries had a mood swing and killed me lol

It involved lots of cap relays, 1 shield booster and 8 large smartbombs and a good nights sleep. Pre castor of course.

i accdentaly jumped into pen3-e with my maller... i was going to blockade it when my buddys got back but i left autopilot on by accdent and boom a whole bunch of bs's blow me away lol...

I had a bet with my CEO that he couldnt take out 2 75kers in a Thorax without losing a drone. We warped into location and I watched... and watched... staring at his ogres for a loss. Suddenly I noticed my shields had fell below 0 so I quickly changed view, slapped on my shield boosters and mwd and activated warp drive....... all to no avail, i was scrambled and slowed. BANG, over 8 mill of ship and rare stuff turned into dust with no insurance (forgot). Then I claimed the 100k bet was mine as he had lost 2 ogres, ........ need i say more.....
