Edited by: muffminer on 20/03/2008 18:39:47 What Happens when you Steal When a player take something from a container/wreck that does not belong to him or her, as when you do not have the implicit right to take things from others, you will be shown a confirmation dialog asking you if you really want to steal it and warning you of the consequences.
If you choose to go ahead and steal despite the warning, you will be criminal flagged to:
The corporation of the owner of the container/wreck, if it is not an NPC corporation. The owner of the container/wreck (this is not done if the owner's corporation was flagged). ------------------------------ copied and pasted from the eve-online guide...how long are they flagged? and why are my corpmates getting concorded for coming to a corpmate's aid when someone stole his ore? WHy was an orethief not blinking red to me after i undocked? And jumpcloned my alt in the same corp to a combat ship/clone and came back.
This game mechanic needs to be fixed...its almost as if the people being robbed are being treated as pirates.
Ore thieving is a part of this game...i understand this..im not against it.
But i am against how easy it is to get away with without consequence. They're making a criminl act.. Nah i dont want concord to show up but I would like for my corpmates to be able to come shoot them without being shot down by concord for shooting an ore thief.
I know there are probably other posts on the issue however I dont have time to sift through them all..and most are probably outdated.
Law biding citizens need love too.
(I dont hate you ccp and im not even mad for getting my ore stolen and not being able to kill the guy...i'd just love to have been able to retaliate..after docking up to switch ships with the owner ofthe can the guy was no longer blinking as he was warping to his flipped can.)
Too easy to be a thief without consequence...which in most cases with my corps experience we get in trouble for going after people who steal from us. (no this is not my main..so no it was not a noob corp)
I apologize for being long winded..maybe the ore theiving rules changed over patches? but..heck..how dare such a measily noob in an ibis flip my can...2 accounts both older than him by far..he should have been sweating and fearful however he just flipped it..left..and wasn't blinking anymore..and then went to loot his own can.
explain that one to me?

they are flagged for 15 minutes to you and your corp mates if they flip your can.. well, should be anyway. If this is not the case, then you should petition your loss

Are you sure? Only thinks this applies to owner? But I could be wrong.

Not NPC corps.

explains a lot. I don't know. Only time i ever remember reading a message stating length of time you can be shot for stealing = along time ago. If it's somewhere else in the players guide sorry i missed it.
And i will admit i was screwed and had no pvp ships around even though this guy probably woulda popped from my barges drones....wasn't worth risking the barge and my corperation has strict rules about corp theft. but with the knowledge now that it's only 15 minutes..if it ever happens again maybe i'll just scoop my stuff back and see if he's alone or not.
not sure i like 15 minutes but if thats how the game was designed i revoke my request for a change. there are bigger issues and thanks for the replies posters. Good info that wasn't so easily sought. Maybe i just looked in the wrong places. bring it on ore thiefs...cuz now i know...and knowing's half the battle.
