Quote: Didn't CCP say mining in a hidden belt was an exploit?
No, they said grid mining was an exploit.
Grid mining: mining in a proper belt on the other side of a grid, the NPC are swarming inside the belt but don't see you due to grid bug.
Hidden belt mining: mining in a belt 5000 km away from a proper belt (often more). NPC didn't spawn there but now do.
With the increase of size of grids the grid mining is probably non-existent now and with introduction of NPC into hidden belts they are now not more feasible for mining I guess than regular belts, depends on if you have depleted good ore in regulars I suppose.
Grid mining and hidden belts have never been the same thing.

Quote: Hidden belt == Gridded belt
Well then CCP need to up the grids to 10.000 x 10.000 x 10.000 km

Gridmining: yes to exploit
Hidden belt mining: no to exploit
As much as I love old ðiscorporation, grid mining isn't the same as hidden belt mining.
We are talking about two very different things, this has been debated over and over again several times.
Gridmining happens when inside one belt a grid is through a part of it and you can stay on one side of the grid with the npc's perhaps 5km away on the other side of the grid leaving you alone.
Hidden belt mining happens when you fly for thousands of km away from the belt and find a totally NEW belt which is not marked in the system scanner.

Quote: I thought hidden belts were related to grid-split belts and were simply a different manifestation of the same bug. In any case I think both situations boil down to the same situation (mining rare ore without NPC interference) and are/were both thus both exploits.
To repeat, many hidden belts are thousands, repeat, thousands of KM away from the nearest "proper" belt.
So not grid split belts but new belts.
As for the NPC interference then someone at CCP put the hidden belts into the code and no NPC at the time. Ask them.

As for the original topic.
Warp to either a planet/moon or an existing asteroid belt. When there activate your range scanner and increase range to several thousand km. If asteroids are appearing a thousand or more km away they might be in a hidden belt.
Use the directional scanner now to pinpoint the direction the asteroids in the distance are in. Proceed towards that, always scanning again and again both for range and direction.
It could take a while or you could get lucky and fly straight into the middle of a belt.

Quote: (I'm still miffed that the game doesn't allow the letter ð to appear in characternames, Riddari :))
Hey they stole a whole array of names I wanted to use, letters such as
-ß +Ú -Ý Ë¾ +· ¦² ð ̦ Í÷ ãµ
can't be used.
However I can use those letters for ships

Quote: Hidden belts were never "hidden" they were entire belts that were off grid
That's why you could warp to the closest belt to the "hidden" one and.... lo and behold, their were no roids there.
What are you referring to? Warp to closest belt to hidden one? How did you warp to hidden one? No roids? There are plenty of roids in hidden belts?

They were entire belts that were several grids off the grids. The grid used to be about 300km wide, hidden belts are often over 1000km away, so thats over 3 grids away.
I don't know how I got into this pedantism
