Now I know there has been idea after idea after idea on how to 'fix' Jita, and I am one of those that agrees that CCP should not do anything to fix it. When there was the congestion problem in Yulai years ago and CCP re-routed the gates, all that happened was Jita. So if they move Jita, the player base will just create another Jita.
So, what is needed is incentive for people to NOT go into Jita. People go there even though they can find what they need a bit farther away, often for cheaper. And even when they know there will be 5 minute lag on anything. Even I'm guilty of that. So what would stop people from going into Jita, you ask?
A Toll Gate! You heard me. CCP needs to charge people to enter Jita, and obviously the more in system the more expensive the charge will be. Now, you might say to yourself: "what about the poor noobs that have no iskies!?!?" Well I say good! Let them keep their money and learn to fly around a bit to find their mods! If there is something that can only be found in Jita, then they will be willing to pay to tax.
In addition to a Toll, CCP can increase the sales tax on the buyers part depending on the congestion in the system. If someone is losing 25% of their profit, and they can go 1 more jump to only lose a fraction, then Jita will slowly dwindle down into a more manageable system.
The only problem with a Toll is that then people will say "I paid to be in here! CCP get rid of the laggg!!!!11!!!"

Evil! I like it.
actually, no, I like it the way it is... I don't think jita is the reason it's lagging the whole galaxy. If it was... ccp doesn't just need better hamsters.

code schitzo concord that attacks people with a security rating of -5 or higher on sight for 4 hours.
have this code randomly come into effect 3 times a day for 1 hour each time.
instant carebear tears and a huge incentive to not go to jita XD
on a more serious note, dynamic sales taxes to penalise people that sell in megahubs would be cool, i know the big shopping centres charge a premium for their space to shops when a big lot i na desolate wasteland would be much cheaper to rent.

Couldn't you have used one of the countless other "Jita Idea" threads that basically say the same thing you are?

Similar tax- based incentives have been suggested before and I'd be interested in trying that at least as an experiment.
What I'd also be interested in seeing though is a consortium of player manufacturers/ traders actively working to create a new market hub. It might ultimately end up being just as bad, but at least it could be somewhat planned and it would be interesting to see a. if it could be done at all and b. if it could be done profitably.
For instance, if there was an equivalent market to Jita within 5 jumps of Jita would it relieve the congetstion?
Disclaimer: I don't go to Jita and probably never will if I can at all help it, so really it doesn't matter to me what happens there. As a problem though, for lack of a better word I find Jita to be "nifty." ______________________________

Just do what they do in real life.....make people set up a shop....set a certain number of "Sales Shops" per station that can be rented just like a corporate office (and I'd allow people to sell from a corp office as well) so that they can set up buy and sell orders. And I would go a step further in saying that the number of shops that could be set up per station would be dictated by the type of station.
People could still fill a buy orders but it would limit the number of people that can sell in a system, and thus make the merchants spread out a bit.
This would of course turn the current hubs upside down and throw the markets in chaos until got shops set up but...

The time has come, and Jita needs to go!
Back when there was only 15 to 25 thousand on I could see a reason for it, but with half of the player base Caldari and with a active sever population 35 to 40 thousand, there is no excuse to have one major trade hub now.
The only thing it is doing now, is keep a majority of players in Caldari space and not forcing them to move around. It is also forcing CCP to have to force several nodes to handle the load. By where if it was a global market, they could possibly not have to use so many nodes in one spot and use them elsewhere when needed.
For those that want to whine that it will force them 20 jumps to get stuff, tough, since those that do not live in Compton already have to.

I say when the number of people in a system exceeds ~600 the star goes supernova incinerating all ships.

No, there is no need to 'fix' Jita. It's not broken.
Players are just lazy and stupid. If anything, CCP should decrease efforts to bolster the node so that it lags even worse than it does currently.
Anything else and CCP is simply encouraging more players to congregate. Bad idea, given Eve's inability to handle large crowds.

Agreed, but it dose not need to be fixed but replaced since it has out lasted its usefulness.
Just like contracts, were you can look up other regions, you do the same thing with the market.

Agreed, but here again it needs to be replaced to stop payers from congragating in one spot and force them to move.
