Originally by: Jakke Logan If this is the case, then that's a mistake. The goons got to where they are by being anti-BOB. Bob got to be hated basically because THEY didn't care what the rest of the playerbase thought of them. You don't see BOB outside one region much these days, do you?
Except the only people the Jihadswarm guys are ****ing off are the empire dwellers who are so risk-adverse that they're willing to spend their game time mining Veldspar/whatever in empire instead of the far more valuable minerals in nullsec. So, um, yeah, not losing too much sleep over that one.

Now, while this might not be adressed to me, personally, since I'm neither ****ed off, nor particularly risk-adverse, but the fact of the matter is that if I try to go for those minerals, I'll be turned into a cloud of dust long before I can even get close to them...
...so of course I'll mine veldspar in high-sec until I can get the contacts and backing needed to survive out there, especially considering how much better those high-sec ores are – veld in particular – compared to the more exotic (mainly low-sec) ores I could go for without facing 100% certain podding.
Now, the question is: how are you going to differentiate me (and others like me) from the people you actually want to target?

You ARE one of the people they want to target. No need to differentiate.

Not enough of you to worry about really. And even if you guys had a mark on your foreheads that we could all read, there's no telling whether you'll "prepare for nullsec" for six months and then quit in frustration before ever actually making the move. The ones that seem most suited to nullsec play tend to just move out here and then worry about isk and skills they need, not the other way around.
Which is just my roundabout way of saying that you're probably kidding yourself about building isk and contacts. That's a neverending passtime which some seem to enjoy, but it won't ever lead you to nullsec. The experiences are just fundamentally different. If you're really interested in living in nullsec, head over to the corp and alliance recruitment center and find a corp that sounds good to you.

...and unfortunately, the ones that sound interesting require me to wait for 6 more months worth of SP. And yes, the change in wording from your "good" to my "interesting" is very deliberate – this is a game after all. It's not supposed to be good for me...
That said, sure, I'll buy the "collateral damage" argument, but given the amount of alts living here in fluffly-pillow-land, and the amount of talk there is on the n00b channels of how people long to see "the other part of the game" (which, to my estimate, is about equal to the amount of people who never want to see it), I have a nagging suspicion that your private little war is slightly misdirected...

I might be mistaken, but I think we're trying to derail a whine into becoming something that could be mistaken for a discussion...

I ran into the same thing...the only group that takes new characters is GoonSwarm, and somehow they struck me as not something I'd want to join even then.

What the hell? Why on earth would they hire someone to play a damn game for them? All they need to do is spend a few hours ratting in 0.0, plus have Fast Talk trained to lvl 4 or 5, and they're quite able to get their sec status raised quite quickly. I've heard of hiring powerlevellers in WoW, but doing the same in EVE is simply unworkable and idiotic. Now I know what you're thinking: "Those goons are idiots, so therefore they probably are doing it." But the reality of it is that there's simply no point doing so, and anyone who can survive in 0.0 has the skills to "powerseclevel" quite easily, and all without the risk of having some lovely helpful person steal and/or destroy their stuff through incompetence, and probably get your account banned through use of a macro to do it for you. (You don't really think they're gonna actually sit down and play the game do you?)
Deitis, I think you're one of the biggest idiots I've read on these forums, and for that I congratulate you.

Too much whine. Jihadswarm is FTW.
Because the guy isn't -10 you think he is somehow manipulating his security status? Fast talk... jumpclone into 0.0 and rat for a day..... the fact that they are not podding anyone?
Might have started out at a 5.0 sec status? Meh... all the whine about goonswarm killing some carebears.

This is exactly the kind of attitude that doesn't get you very far in eve.
"I need 20m sp before I can head out to 0.0", "I need XXX million isk and 5 battleships before I can head out to 0.0", "I need to mine veld for 500 hours till hopefully some random 0.0 miner comes by and notices my dedication and offers me a place in 0.0".
The door is open for anyone willing to make the attempt, no you do not need 20m sp and 2b isk in the wallet, plenty of 2 months noobs head out with a couple of t1 cruisers and make it in 0.0. You can't get "contacts and backing" by mining veld in highsec.

The recruitment channels and forums say otherwise, as does, as it happens, every Triumvirate corp description...

Not all corps/alliances are as selective as we are about recruiting, we're pretty much invite only.
Everybody's recruitment thread is always gonna say "require 2342342m SP, pvp blah blah blah", its to look good and attract a higher quality of players. From personal experience, most people that you recruit via forum is crap anyways.
This is how you get into 0.0 with no contacts and little isk/sp(this is how I did it).
1. Find a region where its NRDS and you can get docking. I did this in ec- back when ISS still held the 2 stations in pure blind. You can do this now in providence.
2. Start a small corp and go there. My corp consisted of 3 people and our alts when we first arrived. I badgered all the local alliances' diplomats till I got standings.
3. Make some isk, then start pvping with the locals, usually this involves gatecamping a lot. Try to get to know at least one of the FC from the alliance you want to join. Also, its ok to be a nub as long as you simply follow instructions and never ever talk on ts/vent unless instructed.
4. Wait a couple of weeks, then try joining one of the local carebear resident alliances, there's always a bunch of those in any region.
5. After a couple of months and people get used to you. Inquire about joining the said alliance you've been gatecamping the last 3 months with, make sure you get that fc you've gotten to know to vouch for you.
5. Once you get into one of the better know alliances, its pretty easy to go where-ever you want. As long as you keep up participation and kb stats, and don't get a reputation for being an idiot/smacktard. People will talk about how killboards are useless and only for epeen, but when you're talking to a recruiter the first thing they usually ask for is a kb link of you.
