I just had a tinfoil hat moment ... there is one character in goons (Celot) who has 66 exhumer kills in high sec (killing at a rate of about 3 a day) but his sec status is only -2.8.
I know there is no way for us to know if he ratted like a madman to get his sec status up, but looking at the spread of kills I would imagine he has very little time for doing that. Killing the crappy npc BC's/cruisers/frigs in 0.0 near low sec yields very little sec status gains .... you need npc BS's etc which are only found in quantity in quite low (-5 or lower) true sec status systems, which are quite a way away from high sec.
I was led to believe by the good people of Rens that the sec status loss for blowing up a ship is 2%. At a sec status of -2.8 those daily 3 kills should be further disimproving that sec status of his by about 0.4
Would be nice if someone in CCP checked out his sec losses and gains just to make sure that he wasnt either exploiting a sec status loss or possibly sec status gain bug. Yeah, probably wont happen .... just wanted to highlight this, because I just dont like the preying on industrialists thing (killing industrialists carrying nice stuff in t1 industrials = great, killing them while they are mining for the next ship I may want to buy cheap = booooo)
For all the gankbears; I have not been ganked by anyone (more of a ganker than a gankee tbh), simple precautions will keep anyone safe from the goons, or most other players for that matter. No you cant have my stuff, and my tears dont taste nice at all (garlicy - and if you like garlicy tears, you need lots of medication, the make you fall asleep forever type medication). |

80-90% of the Exhumer kills on that killboard are fake. They never happened. They are just there for epeen waving and psychological warfare. -------- Ideas for: Mining Clouds

So how many times can you suicide gank before your sec status finally plunges to the point you are regulated to low and null sec?

Roughly .1 sec loss for normal aggressive actions isn't it? If so, he could have started at +4.0 and that would add up.

I ultimately think that this whole op is self defeating for the goons in the long run.
First off they are not making any friends with this. They risk being tagged like BOB was with universal hatred directed at them. The goons could easily be driven out of 0.0 if they unite everyone against them.
Secondly, their op has no chance of impacting ore prices in Empire except in the local areas they operate in. Highsec is too large for them to strike everyone, they lack the manpower unless they pull their whole alliance from 0.0.
Thirdly, this is bad for their future. Tomorrow's 0.0 fighers are today's highsec carebears, this is the pool of players who will eventually be joining 0.0 alliances and corps. Think that someone who had his first barge/exhumer blown up by the goons is going to want to join them or the alliances that fight with them? No, they'd more likely want to join those against them. The goonies so far owe their power to the fact that they literally accept anyone, even noobs, and they don't care what they can fly as long as they fly. Cut them off from the noobs, they start losing numbers by attrition.
And never make the assumption that just because someone likes to mine that they don't have combat skills, or even an alt that is all combat.

If this is the case, then that's a mistake. The goons got to where they are by being anti-BOB. Bob got to be hated basically because THEY didn't care what the rest of the playerbase thought of them. You don't see BOB outside one region much these days, do you?

Saw some pod kills on the jihadswarm board. They give a real nasy hit to sec status (0.5 per kill).
Remember though in low sec pvp, often you have multiple acts of aggression in a single encounter as everyone targets and shoots everyone else, whilst jihadswarm, just about every time you lock a miner, you get a kill. In low sec, they might survive and come back 16 minutes later and you take another sec status hit for re-engaging
I think at least that is why the goons haven't taken such a hit sec status wise. Don't foget they have access to some nice ratting space, where they can easily bump their sec status mack up in a day or so

L4 missions, maybe ? Those mission NPCs give a pretty decent secstatus gain, even if you're in highsec. Deosn't even have to be YOUR mission... just plop into somebody else's L4, kill a rat, do the same 15-20 mins later. He could easily heep a POSITIVE secstatus with just 3 ship kills a day if he'd do this often enough.

How about increasing the sec hit for killing barges/exhumers?

The goons do care what the rest of the player base thinks. Suicide ganking is proof. They want us to "think" they are mean ass doods when infact they are just trying to become more popular. Showing they really do care... a whole bunch.

Just fyi the sec status loss is actually 2,5% of the difference between your current sec status and -10 and pods are 12,5% (and no, it's not fixed amount).
At 0 sec status you loose 0.25 off your sec status (which decreases the closer to -10 you get). So you can kill 8 ships before you even hit -2. And it does not require some ultra low truesec to get good battleships. Yes it helps to do it faster but even just ratting in areas like curse you can work that back fairly quickly.

Edited by: Salastil on 24/03/2008 18:26:23 Sec status gains are 15 minutes apart per system. You can jump to another system immediately after blowing a Battleship spawn and kill another BS rat. Continue doing this cycle of kill, jump, you can regain sec status from -9.9 in about two days to 0.0.

Hell no, if these guys are putting in the hours to keep their Sec Status high enough to get into "safe" space, more power to them. If I could put in the hours to does this i'd be jumping in too. The whole idea of "I worked for ages to get this ship he shouldn't be allowed to blow me up" really annoys me. Personally i'd love if they managed to completely crash the mineral market just to see what happens afterwards.
Unfortunately you whiners will probably get your way as usual.

Most exhumer pilots I see hanging out mining in highsec have their drones out to guard against npc attacks.
Suiciding these pilots only incurs the -0.1% (or whatever it is) aggression sec hit as the drones will auto-aggro the suicide pilot and nullify the sec hit for ship destruction.
You can kill quite a few of these before dropping sec status too much.

Dealing with your points in order:
(1) They are making friends with this (Not that they care if they make enemies anyway) - don't make the mistake of thinking careless hi-sec hulk miners = "everyone".
(2) In other words the whole affair is 80% forum noise and only 20% actually in the game. KB numbers back this hypothesis up. The "universal hatred" seems to be more like a couple of dozen persons who are vocal on the forums.
(3) A completely incorrect assumption. These victims almost without exception will never become useful PvPers. People don't magically transmute from whiny fools who won't watch local and believe no-one should be allowed to shoot them just because they spend a year or two accumulating SPs in hi-sec. They just become whiny fools with 30M SP.
