Edited by: Sanadis on 26/03/2008 21:36:15 This problem concerns the button you use to speak with in eve voice. Originally, I had to opened all of my ports to get eve voice to work, so I could get into the channel. Then once I finally got it to work properly, none of the hot keys for speaking would work at all. After awhile I starting closing down all of the processes to figure which one was blocking the key. Finally I found narrowed it down to Xfire, which must have some kind of conflict with Eve, because not only does it block the talk button, it causes Eve to crash when I exit out of the game. Also, if I start Eve without Xfire open, I am able to use the hot key just fine, and I can reopen Xfire and everything still works until I close Eve then start Xfire without Eve open, then I hit the same problems again. Can anyone else confirm this is happening to them?
Just checked, if I open Xfire while I am in game and rejoin the audio channel, my hot key will stop working again.

Is no one else having this same problem? I have no clue if there is anything I can do to fix this.

Just started EVE a few weeks ago, and have played with getting EVE Voice working. Finally have got in-game to see where I can "JOIN AUDIO" but when I do I hear nothing. and if I go to the tab it shows me I'm "Talking on the channel". Currently have the default PTT key (middle mouse button) and was wondering if something was screwing with it. I do have Xfire loaded on my gaming machine, although it is up and running my EVE client doesn't crash when I exit the game.
I'll try this evening to kill Xfire and see if this fixes my inability to chat...whats a good voice channel with chatter on it?

The crashing thing seems more random, so I can not fully confirm if that is Xfire or not. I am thinking the crashing is coming from the Eve client memory leak, cause its bad sometimes on my computer.

Edited by: Sanadis on 31/03/2008 04:02:33 The quality of eve voice is not that bad. My only complaint on it is the lack of custom buttons for the hot key. I would use eve voice over teamspeak any day, but not over vent.
Anyway, my computer must be weird or something, because I am still getting the blocked hot key from Xfire. Either my computer is weird or there are like 3 people in this entire game that uses Xfire and thats not enough people to even worry about it .

Yes XFire does block EVE Voice Hotkeys when run first. The only solution at this time if you run XFire is to start EVE First then launch XFire.

Yea, I do that and it is a temporary fix, then all of a sudden the key becomes blocked again. This is a really annoying problem.

Please file bug reports regarding these issues, we have been looking into the compatibility with Xfire but we need more input from people using this on a regular basis to be able to address all possible usability issues.
As for the quality being bad, did you by any chance have the output set to "Generic Hardware"? There are issues with some cards where they pick the wrong output for Eve Voice. It will be resolved in a coming update.
Filing detailed bug reports is a very good way for you to get an issue you want us to look into fixed, but please be as accurate as possible so the bug hunting team can reliably reproduce the issue. We value the players input and do our best to increase compatibility with common tools like Xfire.

For those who are experiencing this issue the easiest workaround is to do the following:
* In Xfire select "Tools" -> "Options" -> "Games" * Once it loads the games list highlight EVE Online and check the box for "Disable Xfire In-Game" * Press "OK"
This should allow you to set any shortcut you want for EVE Voice and still have Xfire running.. though obviously any of the features that Xfire has that require the In-Game console will not work.
But definitely, file bug reports about these types of issues! ____________________________ I break things.
