It all came down to fittings, this setup perma-runs with my skills:
Damage Control II Power Diagnostic System II
Gistii A-Type Small Shield Booster(b-types work ok too) 2x Dread Guristas Invulnerability Field Dread Guristas Shield Boost Amplifier
3x Modulated Strip Miner II, Veldspar Mining Crystal II
2x Core Defence Field Extender I
The worst attack(3x brutix!) brought me to half shield before CONCORD dispatched of them, shields at 100% by the time they died. Had several caracals try over the duartion of the week, barely dented my shields.
The setup is a bit expensive of course, but if I had lost 8 T1 fitted hulks this week instead, then that would have cost me far, far more. Not to mention the mining time lost.
In closing, if you fit cheap T1 Hulks with all mining upgrades then sure you'll get suicided and die every time, but if you put some isk into your hulk instead of WHINING then you can avoid the problem entirely.

And how do you propose the people who don't have the ISK for that setup get the ISK in the first place ?

Edited by: Cpt Fina on 27/03/2008 05:00:18 I survived focused fire from the entire southern Goon sniper-fleet while being puonded on by a small TFCgang up close in my Hulk. RA finally tried to doomsday me a couple of times but my shield was stable at 85%.
My fitting:
Low: Most expensive mods you can find Mid: Even more expensive mods High: Whatever, nos n' **** maybe.
PS: You don't even have to align or look at localchat with this setup.

Due to increased needs to push shields down lower %'s, they would need 8. But still, never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

if they were so stupid why would they bring more fire power?

The lows arent expensive, neither are the rigs, but the mids are neccessary. It tanks vastly more than cheap t2 fit with those mids.
Can you come up with a better setup?

Sure. Insurance- tanked covetor with an MLU2 that gets 6% less yield assuming exhumers V -- identical at exhumers III. Given the price difference it'll take you ages to catch up, and if the covetor gets popped... oh well. ______________________________

If people had to invest money into pimping their mining ships the same way people need to pimp their mission boats the world would come to an end!
Not to mention it would destroy their self-sought image as the 'downtrodden, poor, working class' of EVE.
People have to buy expensive gear to tank for mission rats while they desperately try to slay them. You just need to do the same so you can survive until the friggin police show up and save you.

The reason the OP survived wasn't due to the Gistii mods, just the setup in general. Prob would have survived if it were all T2 tbh.
Sadly, most Hulks don't fit any tank. ...

Every serious miner has Exhumers 5.
If the covetor pops, which it will, I've seen covetors popped by single caracals in 0.7 systems, then you will be out around 40m with t2 fit. If I had been flying covetor over the last week or so then that means I would have lost 320m isk + lost mining time.
Over time the well fit Hulk pays off easily.

A guy in C+P posted a really good T2 one that was probably a lot cheaper. Basic deal was 2x small shield extender, 2x invuln, EANM (could do better there maybe?), DCU, 2x core def purge (mightn't core def extend make more sense?). EHP per EFT was 27k.
But again, without the MLUs it seems to me like you're just paying a crapton of money to say, "look at me I've got a Hulk" because the exhumer skill bonus isn't really all that uber. The cargo space is nice I guess but in a sense it's a deathtrap because it just encourages you to go AFK. ______________________________

If they know what they're doing they'll just use a covert alt to bump you out of alignment. But you clearly don't know anything about how the suiciders work so I might as well ignore your posts.
Plate doesn't fit by the way, DC2 is by far the best choice and the PDS stacks positively with the extenders.

No. The idea is to keep the raw hitpointbuffer down while having as much expensive mods on as possible. Nobody would mess with you tbh.

Astronautic rigs LOWER your HP since it reduces armor.
But please, try and make a setup that FITS with more effective hp than the above that doesn't use T2 rigs. My setup works very well and is honestly quite fun to use. :)

40 mil? I don't think so. 15 mil for the lasers, 1 mil for the MLU and then there's your insurance cost.
The other thing I've got to ask you though is this: where the hell are you mining that you're getting attacked 8 times in a week and why are you still there? I've been in a retriever for about 7 weeks now and I've been can flipped a grand total of once; that's not by accident either. ______________________________

Fair enough, if you're one of the 2 people that insure your high-sec mining barge then it's closer to 25m, not factoring in lost mining time.
Mining in Osmon by the way.
