I got my computer back a few days ago after about 1 1/2 months (crucial ram had to be returned with RMA which caused delay)... I never had these flashes of light--like triangles in the overview and other pop-up screens previously. Also a good portion of the time when the computer crashes it will not reboot Eve and I have to reboot the computer itself which never happened before.. I got a Radeon HD3850 graphics board with intel Q6600 cpu and DFI mobo....Also when I boot up Eve it's like I can see another screen very briefly etc--like leakage or something.. I went back to the classic view and light flashes are not as evident but have yet to see if upon crash Eve reboots...as least I don't get as many crashes even with my high latency issues from using a satellite connection....And I have lots of FPS unlike some who complained of a lack thereof...
At least the OV settings have seem to have settled down and stay put as of today...yesterday the OV and drone window etc would move all over the place...

It sounds like you have other issues. Seeing random triangles drawing are usually a sign of a bad driver, video card, etc. Make sure you video card drivers are at the newest possible version.
The "other screen" problem is common (you're seeing what was the frame buffer at some memory location previously, drawn in odd ways, etc), though most drivers now remember to blank it before switching video modes - once again check your driver.

Hmmm it's a brand new card installed by a business along with the remainder of the items etc but I will check neway
Another interesting thing happened today--doing some mining with Domi and using 5 mining drones--no problems until can just about full and when I go to leave I get system crash--reboot computer and happened twice more with rat coming out and starting to destroy mining drones...I got can back within allowed time and went after drones and put out drones to attack one little rat and system went down again.... Came back and put out 3 hammerhead drones which took forever to destroy a single ravener and lost one of the other T2 drones sitting in space... rat finally died, got drones back--did not use drones thereafter and had no further problem with crashes

Run the Logserver and then create a Bug report BUG Site may help also
but also - try running with :- SFX disabled, in windowed mode, with the present intaval = 1 in the advanced gfx settings

Edited by: notaway on 28/03/2008 11:13:12 Ahhh I checked my graphics board driver which was date 2/13/08 but I did find new one dated 3/8/08 and installed...
I know all about the logserver but in the past ccp has blamed all my problems (prior to computer upgrade) on High Latency due to satellite connection and so I don't think that will change now... I did the ping test and sent previously and that is when they came up with the high latency (but I only had ctd previously and did not have to reboot computer)
I remember seeing the windowed settings area and the Present Interval I know is set at Immediate.. I asked someone about that previously and I think that was for fps issues but I got lots of fps--sometimes over 200...I will set on interval 1 to see if there is any difference--I don't note a whole lot of change going from premium to classic view or vice versa but I did not have that HDR turned on...I also checked Windows update (I have sp 3 version 3264) and there are no updates and ditto on direct X

Not to completely derail the topic, but I've been having issues post-patch as well.
My FPS has dropped dramatically since this latest patch. Now I don't have a monster system (well it isn't anymore), but I was able to run with shadows off, 1600x1200, Premium content, and HDR on. FPS was around 40 in station, 100 in space.
Now with HDR on my FPS drops to around 10, much less when in station (even with station enviroment disabled).
No other games seem to have an issue (including HL2, Bioshock, CoH, BF2, etc.).
Drivers are up to date, fairly fresh install of XP, all diagnostic tests I've run seem fine (including stress testing the video card, ram, cpu, etc.).
I haven't tried reinstalling Eve yet, but I guess thats my next step.

I have been running in windowed mode now instead of full screen along with a Present Interval of 1 and the crashes have been few now even when there are close to 40k ppl playing. I suspect when I move to a cable connection, I will have few problems..
I would rather have a full screen but since I have a rather large 24" monitor the view still is sufficient...Oh and I got lucky--I found 5 mining drones lying around to replace the ones I lost to rats when crashing before making the changes above...

Make sure you also upgrade your video drivers. Whenever you get weird flashes on the screen, that's usually a sign the drivers aren't up-to-date.
If you have performance problems, turn off "Sun is occluded by ships" under graphics options.

Nope as I indicated above not the graphics card nor the driver..Matter of fact, I never had the triangle problem at all with my prior graphics card which was only a radeon 9800xt
