I understand perfectly well where you're coming from. But do you regularly read CAOD? People constantly post trollthreads and spam knowing perfectly well that they shouldn't be making posts like that. They get locked after a few minutes. Some nights there can be five or six locked, cleared, and utterly useless threads on the front page - that's a significant number of them.
I read CAOD all the time. I find it quite entertaining in the same way I enjoy going to the zoo. I don't think deleting troll threads is much of an answer there though, since the nature of the forum means that 95-99% of posts will be disingenuous drivel no matter what you do and in a disinformation- rich environment like that it's sometimes difficult to distinguish between "useful" posts and out- and- out **** stirring. Separating the wheat from the chaff in CAOD seems like it wouldn't be something worth attempting.
That said though I don't envy the guy who has to ride herd on that place. One can only hope he finds it as amusing as I do.
Quote: Besides, the "where did my post go!?!" posts can be countered very easily with another software enhancement: show the deleted post to the poster with some (very obvious) indication that it was deleted, and allow the deleting moderator to specify a reason.
The best compromise solution I've seen on that is the one where you move threads whose services are no longer required to a locked forum with a name like "thread jail" or whatever. People know to check there and everybody can see what happened and why -- and inevitably, more people will want to know than just the offender(s). Not only does it provide a record but it helps broadcast the rules and moderation MO to the entire forum.
At any rate, transparency in moderation tends to be a lot better in the long run than the gestapo- style knock on the door in the wee hours because it provides fewer opportunities to this guy and his multifarious wannabes. Doubly true if your forum is the frontend for a business... or at least that's what my experiences have told me. YMMV, but the only real complaint I can come up with about the moderation here is that it's occasionally lazy (not much of a gripe, really). ______________________________

My big beef is with the session issues, honestly. A better search engine (such as eve-search, but better) would be great as well.
But fix the damn session issues.

Doubtful. I have 3 different computers at my disposal with 2 sources of internet from 2 different providers.
It messes up in every scenario. I use word, because this forum does not have a spell checker function, and I have a 50% chance of getting my session ended. I dont mind using word, but the fact that I have to log back in at least half the time is annoying. Especialy now since you cannot see someones organisation unless you are logged in.
Try browsing a couple topics, and pushing the back button like you could on any other forum I have ever been on. Within 5-7 clicks I am automaticaly logged out...
