Edited by: Avon on 28/03/2008 19:41:24 The thing with sandboxes is that no matter how many different shaped buckets and rakes and spades and stuff you give people, and how many different and exciting castles and things they build, none of that is quite as much fun as stomping on them.

That's why we need more sharp things that we can put in the sandcastles.
Agreed, but also a better variety of boots.

Of course they do. What would Eve be without victims?

Opinion. I respect it and understand your view. Nonetheless, it's an opinion. I happen to like building more than destroying. Build ships, build stuff, build isk, build commerce, build empires. It's why I mostly play.
I'm in a bit of a funny mood tonight. There is nothing wrong with wanting to build stuff. However, the desire to build should not make you immune to other people's desire to destroy. That is exactly the point of a sandbox game.

So stop spewing hate at carebears. We pay our money too so that CCP can continue to develop this wonderful for all of us.
I think you are somewhat missing the point. You do all the right stuff to minimise the risks, and accept that there is still some small risk involved. That is hardly being a carebear, that is being a responsible industrialist.
A carebear would like to mine in your Hulk with less risk than you have now, and with the game mechanics replacing all the precautions which you take responisbility for in order to mitigate your risks.

If people want to run around safe in 1.0, let them. If they want to fight in low sec let them. You shouldn't give a crap how people play the game as long as they are not sploiting. Mind your own business and let others mind theirs.
If their gameplay really had no effect on everyone else I would happily let them play in their little bubble of safety. However, that is not the case. Almost every action a player takes has a direct or indirect consequence for other players.
Eve is not a single player game, and just plain can not function as one. For that to happen, for a player to be able to have total safety, they would have to have removed the ability to spend ISK on anything other than fixed price NPC goods, be unable to sell anything, be unable to activate any module on another player, unable to mine (roids are a competitive resourse). Basically, all you have left is someone who could only run missions, but who would be unable to actually do so because they wouldn't have a ship.
The "just leave them alone" arguement does not hold water, because intentionally or not, they are unable to leave me alone.

Don't be silly. Making a game easier makes it far more popular, I read it here on these very forums. SWG is easily the most popular MMO currently running.

I played SWG since launch.
Yeah, I had a Jedi unlock from the skill grind, and then one later through the Village.
The first one was still the best by far to play. Sure it was an alpha class character, but if you messed up that could all be taken away from you - the very harshness made it exciting.

I can also add that the new lead designer for NGE Helios was trying to force PvP on players and it failed misserably, he is now fired and a new more PvE oriented lead designer is in place, game is doing alot better after Helios was fired.
Actually PvP was the only fun left for many people. The problem was it wasn't allowed to have any meaningful consequence, and to people got fed up with it.
