Edited by: Heartspark on 28/03/2008 23:41:31 I have a main with about 10mmillion SP that I use for missions..but I can't seem to make enough money doing missions, apparently i made some bad purchases for items that I can't take full advantage yet..so im down to a million isk. So i started 2nd account for manufacturing (only thing besides mining that I won't cut my wrists doing) to make some cash, the problem is I can't find anyplace to research the BP i get. Every station is rented out..tried pretty much every region to besides low sec.
I'm not part of a corp, POS out of question cause I have like million isk to my name. lol
Any suggestions here? Please don't say I have to mine for money :(

Your mission runner will have lots of standings to one particular faction right? (Please don't tell me you're one of those "Oh, i don't want bad standings" people). Train your mission alt up in Scientific Networking and get some high-quality R&D agents to bring in RP's to cash in for datacores. or get into manufacturing :)

my main has no skills in it, would be a waste of time to train him in the same field as alt is.

You can queue your jobs, so they are done after the current jobs are done. But the waiting times can be very long. [None] |

unfortunately, you only have a few options. you can join a corp with a research POS that is open for member usage. or you can queue your job after the shortest job at the shortest line in the region.
One tip before you start:
ME 10 is all you really need on 90% of all BPOs. don't waste your time and fill up the lines more than they are by trying to research your ME to 500. ME 0 has 10% waste. ME 1 is 5% waste, ME 2 is 2.5% waste, etc. ( i believe... i read a guide on it somewhere on this forum... don't have the patience to only do 1 ME level at a time in a public lab to test it). ME 10 is 1% waste. ME 20 is .5% waste... you do the math. 10 ME levels for half a percent reduction in material... NOT worth it on ships below BC class, or any normal modules. rigs and above will benefit from as high ME as you can give them.
I think that if everyone would understand this, the universal 30 day waiting lines at every lab in the universe would be a thing of the past. but that will never happen, since only a few players ever actually read the forums past the newb section when they first start.
on a side note... manufacturing is not a great profit maker. your making 5-10% profit, if even that, on most modules (more if you don't sell in a hub, but the volume is much lower out in the sticks). so starting with only 1 mil and no mining will mean a few months of playing with tiny volumes till you build your money enough to get into the ship business, or rigs. remember, when you mine, the minerals are not free, BUT, you are paying for them with a different currency (your time), while keeping your isk in you wallet. even though everyone says "minerals are not free", and you always have to factor in the mineral value when you determine your price floor. when you mine them yourself, you don't have any up-front isk investment, so all you can lose is a little time if the market you choose to enter gets crashed by some n00b traders aggressive price wars. ::insert witty signature here:: |

Thanks Divand for that info.
I guess I will look to join a corp that has open research spots...now if I can find one that allows low SP players plus my main. lol
I did actually read that article about ME and planing to go only 10 at start till i get more expensive items. I will prob use a osprey and badger to start with to get minerals build up.

Heartspark? You wouldn't happen to have an animist by that name by any chance?
Given your situation I'd say ratting would be your best bet. Joining a 0.0 corp will give you the best ratting opportunities. Also, try research agents instead of manufacturing with your alt. The datacores do take time to earn, but can be a reliable source of income. You can also try courier missions, though i'd avoid lowsec in your state.

You might have underestimated the power of your mission runner to help your alt character along with gaining standing for the r&d agents, without both characters having to have the same skills. With two accounts (which normally can run on one machine), you can have both characters in the same gang. Your mission runner, already having some good faction standing, can do ordinary missions at level 2 or 3 or 4 for the research corporation of your choice, and share the corp standing gain with the alt, to give the alt faster access to the research agents of that corp. You get more research points per day for higher levels (usually) so accessing the level 3 or 4 research agents will gain more points than the level 1 or 2's. Some of the datacores (not mechanical engineering, but check out hydromagnetic physics for instance), can still sell for half a million. Your alt character needs their own personal standing with the research corp to access the higher level r&d agents, but your mission runner can feed it to them without having to learn any science skills on the main character. |
